We hear your cry for help during this time of fasting, and we stand with you in seeking God’s strength and provision. Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline, but it can also be a time of great struggle, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. We want to encourage you that the Lord sees your sacrifice and honors your desire to draw nearer to Him.
The Bible tells us in Isaiah 58:6-9 (WEB), "Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light will break out as the morning, and your healing will appear quickly; then your righteousness shall go before you; the glory of Yahweh will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and Yahweh will answer; you will cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’" Fasting is not just about abstaining from food, it is about humbling ourselves before God, seeking His face, and aligning our hearts with His will. If you are struggling, remember that the Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18).
We also want to gently remind you that fasting should be done with the right heart posture. Jesus warned in Matthew 6:16-18 (WEB), "Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you." If your fasting is becoming a burden rather than a blessing, it may be time to examine whether you are fasting for the right reasons, out of love for God, not out of obligation or for the approval of others.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother/sister who is fasting and seeking Your face. Lord, we ask that You strengthen them in their weakness. When they feel faint, remind them that Your grace is sufficient, and Your power is made perfect in their weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Father, we pray that You would fill them with Your Holy Spirit, giving them supernatural endurance and clarity of mind. Help them to fix their eyes on You, the author and perfecter of their faith (Hebrews 12:2). Lord, if there is any area of their heart that is not fully surrendered to You, reveal it to them and give them the courage to repent and turn fully toward You.
We also ask, Father, that You would guard their heart and mind from discouragement or despair. Remind them that You are their provider, their strength, and their shield. When they feel overwhelmed, let them hear Your voice saying, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Lord, we declare that this fast is not in vain. You are moving in their life, even when they cannot see it. We trust that You are working all things together for their good (Romans 8:28).
Finally, Father, we ask that You would deepen their relationship with You through this time. Let them experience Your presence in a fresh and powerful way. May this fast draw them closer to You and align their will with Yours. We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who intercedes for us at Your right hand. Amen.
If you are fasting for a specific reason, whether it be for breakthrough, repentance, guidance, or healing, we encourage you to continue pressing into the Lord. Write down the promises He has given you in His Word and declare them over your life. Remember, the enemy may try to discourage you, but greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Stand firm in your faith, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9).
If you are struggling with physical weakness, be sure to drink plenty of water and rest when needed. Fasting is not about punishing your body but about disciplining your spirit. If you feel led, you may also consider a partial fast (such as giving up certain foods or meals) rather than a complete fast, especially if you have health concerns. The key is to seek the Lord with a sincere heart.
Keep pressing in, dear one. The Lord is with you, and He will not leave you nor forsake you (Deuteronomy 31:6).
