We hear your heart’s cry and stand with you before the throne of grace, lifting this burden to the Lord. The mind is a battlefield, and the enemy often seeks to plant ungodly influences, whether through music, words, or memories, that distract, tempt, or defile. But Scripture assures us that "the weapons of our warfare are not of the flesh, but mighty before God to the throwing down of strongholds" (2 Corinthians 10:4 WEB). We take authority over these songs and their lingering effects in the name of Jesus Christ, for He alone has the power to cleanse and renew.
First, we must address the root of why these songs trouble you. Music can stir emotions, memories, and even spiritual influences, and the enemy delights in using what was meant for entertainment or expression to ensnare. But God’s Word declares, "Whatever is true, whatever is honorable, whatever is just, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is commendable, if there is any excellence, and if there is anything worthy of praise, think about these things" (Philippians 4:8 WEB). If these songs do not align with these virtues, they have no place in your mind or heart. We rebuke the hold they have over your memory and command them to be uprooted by the power of the Holy Spirit.
You also ask for deliverance from all evil and forgiveness. Deliverance is not just a one-time event but a continual surrender to Christ’s lordship. I hear a soul crying for deliverance and forgiveness, yet let me direct your gaze beyond the mere erasure of two songs from memory. What are two songs compared to the thick cloud of transgressions which the Lord has promised to blot out for His own sake? You have asked to be delivered from all evil, and this is a right prayer, for we are compassed about with the power of darkness and must be rescued by a strong hand. But ponder this: the true evil is not the lingering echo of a tune, but the sin which gave it a foothold.
The Lord Jesus came not to purge our recollections by a trick of the mind, but to cleanse our hearts by His blood and to break the very yoke of Satan’s bondage. When the King sits at His table, when Christ is in sweet communion with you, the spikenard of your graces will give forth its fragrance, and the foul odors of the world will be overpowered. Do not be so anxious to have certain sounds forgotten as to have your soul filled with the songs of deliverance which the redeemed sing at the wells of salvation. Draw water from the inexhaustible well of Christ, and you shall find your thirst for relief from these tormenting memories quenched.
He has blotted out, as a thick cloud, your transgressions; is that not infinitely greater than blotting out a melody? Lean hard upon your Beloved as you come up from the wilderness, and He will so occupy your thoughts that the trifles you now lament shall lose their sting. Let your tongue, instead of rehearsing its fear of these songs, declare boldly, “I shall not die, but live, and declare the works of the Lord.” The Lord forgives you freely; now go, and forget that which is behind, not by a forced amnesia, but by pressing forward into the sweet and all-absorbing presence of Jesus Christ.

You pray that these two songs be erased from your memory, yet the true remedy lies not in the blotting out of a few recollections, but in the renewing of your whole mind. The Apostle says, "Be renewed in the spirit of your mind." The vessel remains the same, but when the Spirit of God possesses it, old deeds and old melodies lose their grip; they become like dead things that cannot cling to a living soul.
Do not think that deliverance from evil is found in forgetting mere words and tunes. That is to treat the symptom, not the disease. The devil, the ruler of the darkness of this world, has nothing in Christ, and if Christ dwells in you, the enemy will have nothing in you either. Yet this happens not by a removal of memory but by a transformation of desire. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. A sound mind is sober; it does not delight in what it once found sweet. Strive, then, not so much to forget as to despise. When the heart is truly contrite and broken, humbled before God, it does not rise up to sing those old refrains; it is quiet before such insults and not eager to return to them.
You ask forgiveness, and you shall have it, for the promise is sure. Christ came to deliver us from evil and supply every good thing, adopting us as sons and giving the Spirit of adoption. But that adoption carries a new nature. If you are a child of God, act as one. Do not let the old songs trouble you; see them for what they are, whitened sepulchers, fair outside but full of corruption. Strip away their melody, and behold the rot beneath. Then you will no longer need to forget them; you will simply no longer wish to remember.
Fill your memory instead with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs. Let the fountain of your heart send forth sweet water, not bitter. The one who harbors evil songs harms his own soul first, but he who meditates on what is pure gladdens himself first. Renewal is a daily work. Humble yourself, and let the Spirit of power and love make you sober. Then you will find that these songs have no more hold on you than a dream upon waking.
Pray not only for the removal of a memory, but for a heart so filled with Christ that all else fades. That is true deliverance.
