Your words carry the ache of a connection that feels incomplete, the weight of a loved one now gone, and the looming loss of your mother. In such moments, the world apart from God truly appears as vanity, an emptiness that no human effort can fill. But there is another song, a Song of Songs, that speaks of a love beyond the grave. It is the love of Christ for His own, a Bridegroom coming for His bride.
That lack of connection you feel is not the final word. God is the one who completes His harvest. He sees every tear, every missed opportunity, every unspoken word. And in His timing, He will set all things right. Your part is in your own time, right now, to entrust both the past and the future into His hands. Your mother is on her own journey, and what you can remember with Christ is not loss without hope. You remember that He himself passed through death and rose, taking the sting away for all who are His. He was forsaken for a moment so that we would never be truly forsaken.
You ask if God has judgments. Yes, we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ. But for those who have trusted in Him, that judgment is not condemnation but an evaluation of works, a fire that strips away the worthless and leaves only what was done in love. His judgment is always just, always fair. The One who judges is the same who demonstrated His love toward us in this: while we were yet sinners, Christ died for the ungodly. He was made sin who knew no sin, so that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
In the desolate scene of loss, when it feels the wicked encircle the righteous and that grief has seized all, you can still rejoice in the Lord. Not in circumstances, but in the God of your salvation. You can jump up and down in your spirit, not trusting your own resources, but knowing He is your strength. Even when you walk through the valley of the shadow of death, on the brink of losing your mother, you need fear no evil. He is with you. In the time of trouble, He hides you in His pavilion. He leads you in right paths for His name’s sake.
Do not struggle for assurance as if your relationship with God were a legal transaction. Abide in Christ. Fruit grows naturally from that union. Let the Holy Spirit comfort you with the deep, gut-level awareness that the love of Christ constrains you, holds you, and will never let you go. The same Bridegroom whose chariot was paved with love for the daughters of Jerusalem is coming again. When He appears, the voice of the bridegroom and bride will be heard no more in sorrow, but in everlasting joy.
Examine your own heart, but do so in the light of His presence, not as one groping in darkness. Lay your regrets before Him, and then let His comfort fill you. I pray that the Lord will open a door of utterance to speak the mystery of Christ deep into your soul, that you may know the riches of full assurance. He who supplies all your needs according to His riches in glory will meet you in this pain. You are not alone. The eternal God is your dwelling place, and underneath are the everlasting arms.
