This is exactly where the Lord meets you. When men and women found themselves in prison, in distress, in the shadow of death by their own foolish doings, they cried unto the Lord. He did not examine their pedigree. He heard their desperation and He broke the gates of brass. The help of man is a vain thing. We are all in the same predicament. No one can pay for the soul of another, and no one can generate a righteousness out of their own flesh. The law is good, but it only reveals where we have bled out. It cannot suture the wound.

In our own strength, we always find a way to flare up, to react, and to fail before we even think. That is the sin principle that dwells in our flesh, and it brings only death. But God has done what our flesh could never do. He sent His own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, yet without sin. Jesus did not come to merely cover your iniquities with a temporary sacrifice that had to be repeated year after year. He came to be the final sin offering and the true scapegoat. On the cross, He took the judgment your sin deserved. God made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us. Because He bore it for you, God is able to declare you innocent and wipe the record clean. He does not just cover the sin; He puts it away so that you can have living fellowship with Him.

Do not listen to the fear that says your sin is too great for grace. Where sin abounded, grace super-abounds. That is not a license to walk carelessly, but it is a lifeline for a drowning person. Because Jesus died, the old man is crucified with Him. The power of sin to reign over you is broken. You reckon that true by faith, not by feeling. Sin shall not have dominion over you, because you are not earning your way by law but living under grace. The Lord shows us things in our lives that are not pleasing to Him not to destroy us, but to bring us to the end of ourselves so He can deliver us from them.

Cry out for the help you cannot manufacture. Ask Him to wash you thoroughly. He is not against you, waiting to strike you down. If He gave His Son for you, He is for you. Vain is the help of man, but through God you shall do valiantly. He is the one who treads down our enemies. Turn to Him, confess the guilt that is ever before you, and trust the Advocate you have with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. In Him, your sins are not merely forgotten by you; they are not remembered by God.
