Amazing

It is a joy to hear how the Lord met you in both giving and praising. Your desire to help someone with what you had, and to do it with a cheerful heart, is exactly the kind of giving that pleases God. Scripture teaches that giving should not be done grudgingly or because of pressure, but as each person has purposed in his own heart. God loves a cheerful giver because that kind of giving is an expression of love, not duty or obligation. It is a response that says, God, I love you and I am thankful for what you have done for me, so I want to give. When you give in that spirit, it not only meets a real need, but it also causes thanksgiving to rise to God from those who receive it.

It is also beautiful that your ride became a time of worship. The Psalms call us to praise the Lord with our whole heart, to praise Him for His loving kindness and truth, for His mighty acts and His excellent greatness. We are told to praise Him in His sanctuary and in the firmament of His power, and to do it with trumpets, harp, cymbals, and even with dance and joyful noise. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord. Our worship can easily become stilted and formal, but God delights in variety and in heartfelt praise that is a genuine response to who He is and what He has done. To be able to sing together, even with someone you just met, is a picture of that open, uninhibited praise that comes from a thankful heart. God desires praise that comes from deep within, not just words spoken while the mind is elsewhere, but worship offered with understanding and love.

I also want to gently encourage you about what the driver shared. It is kind that he loves gospel music and spoke warmly of Jesus, and it is good to rejoice in any opportunity to praise the Lord together. At the same time, the Bible teaches that fellowship with God was broken by sin and can only be restored through Jesus Christ Himself. He is not simply a teacher who prepared the way for another, but He is the Son of God, the Savior, and the only way to the Father. God has magnified His Word above His name, and His truth matters. Jesus said He is the way, the truth, and the life, and that no one comes to the Father except through Him. There is a real difference between respecting what someone believes and agreeing that all paths lead to God. In love, we can be thankful for the conversation while still holding firmly to the truth that salvation is through Jesus alone.

Pray for this man who was kind to you and who clearly has an openness to the name of Jesus and to songs about Him. Ask the Lord to give you or others further opportunity to share with him, with grace and clarity, who Jesus truly is and what He has done on the cross to cover our guilt and restore fellowship with God. Continue to walk in that fellowship yourself, giving cheerfully out of love, and praising Him with your whole heart for His goodness, His mercy that endures forever, and His truth that endures to all generations. May the Lord fill your heart and life with continual thanksgiving as you keep praising Him for His mighty acts.
