Alcohol

We hear your heart in this request, and we stand with you before the throne of grace, seeking God’s strength and deliverance. Alcohol can become a heavy chain, ensnaring the mind, body, and spirit, and we recognize the courage it takes to cry out for freedom. The Bible warns us clearly about the dangers of drunkenness and the bondage it brings. In Ephesians 5:18, we are instructed, "Do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation, but be filled with the Spirit." This is not just a suggestion, it is a command from the Lord, who desires our minds to be clear, our hearts to be pure, and our bodies to be temples of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:19-20).

We must also address the deeper issue here: where is the power of Jesus in this struggle? It is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we can find true freedom and victory over sin. In John 8:36, Jesus declares, "If therefore the Son makes you free, you will be free indeed." Have you surrendered this battle to Him? Have you confessed this struggle as sin and asked for His forgiveness and strength? If not, we urge you to do so now. There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12), and there is no other name that can break the chains of addiction.

We rebuke the spirit of addiction and bondage in the name of Jesus Christ. We declare that you are not powerless, you are a child of the Most High God, and He has given you authority over every work of the enemy (Luke 10:19). The enemy may have whispered lies that you cannot overcome this, but we stand on the truth of God’s Word: "No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it" (1 Corinthians 10:13). The way of escape is through Jesus Christ, and He is faithful to provide it.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, acknowledging that without You, we can do nothing. We lift up this dear one who is struggling with the chains of alcohol. Lord, You see the pain, the shame, and the desire for freedom. We ask that You would break every chain, shatter every stronghold, and set this precious soul free. Father, we confess that drunkenness is sin, and we ask for Your forgiveness and cleansing. Wash this one clean by the blood of Jesus, and renew a right spirit within them.

Lord, fill them with Your Holy Spirit. Where the spirit of addiction has taken hold, let Your Spirit take control. Give them a hunger and thirst for righteousness that surpasses their desire for alcohol. Surround them with godly accountability, wisdom, and strength. Open their eyes to see the lies of the enemy and the truth of Your Word. Remind them daily that they are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus (Romans 8:37).

Father, we declare that this is not a battle of the flesh but of the spirit. We rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus’ name and command it to leave. We speak life, healing, and freedom over this one’s mind, body, and soul. Strengthen them in moments of weakness, and let them run to You, not to the bottle. Provide them with godly fellowship, support, and resources to walk in victory. May they experience the joy of the Lord, which is their strength (Nehemiah 8:10).

We thank You, Lord, for Your faithfulness. We thank You that You are able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). We trust You to complete the good work You have begun in this life. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to take practical steps as well. Remove all alcohol from your home, avoid places and people that tempt you, and immerse yourself in God’s Word. Psalm 119:11 says, "I have hidden Your word in my heart, that I might not sin against You." Fill your mind with Scripture, and let it transform your thoughts. Seek out a biblical, Christ-centered recovery group or counselor who can walk with you in this journey. You do not have to fight this battle alone, God has placed His people around you to support and encourage you.

Remember, victory is not found in your own strength but in surrender to Jesus Christ. Galatians 5:1 reminds us, "Stand firm therefore in the liberty by which Christ has made us free, and don’t be entangled again with a yoke of bondage." You have been set free, now walk in that freedom! The road may not be easy, but it is worth it. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2). He is faithful, and He will see you through.

We hear you and we want you to know that we're here with you, lifting you up before the Lord. This is a tough battle, but we know that God is stronger than any addiction. You've taken the first step by reaching out, and that's huge. We've all been in places where we felt trapped, but we've seen God do incredible things in our lives and in the lives of others when we surrender to Him.

It's not about our strength, it's about His power working in us. The Bible reminds us in 2 Corinthians 12:9 that God's grace is sufficient for us, and His power is made perfect in our weakness. You don't have to carry this burden alone. He wants to break those chains and set you free.

Let's pray for you right now.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with this dear one who is struggling. Lord, You know the battle they're facing, the temptation they're up against. We ask that You would flood their heart with Your peace and Your presence. Father, we pray that You would renew their mind, that they would see themselves through Your eyes, not as a slave to alcohol, but as a child of the King, who is more than a conqueror through Christ.

Lord, we ask for supernatural strength in moments of weakness. When the cravings come, remind them that You are enough. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit so that they would hunger and thirst for righteousness more than they do for that next drink. Surround them with people who will encourage them and pray with them.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of addiction in Jesus' name. We declare that greater is He who is in them than he who is in the world. Break every chain, shatter every stronghold, and let them walk in the freedom that only Christ can provide.

Give them the courage to take practical steps, whether that's removing alcohol from their home, reaching out to a trusted friend, or diving deeper into Your Word. Lead them to the resources they need, Lord, and remind them that they are never alone in this fight.

Thank You, Father, for the victory that is already ours in Christ. We trust You to lead them out of this darkness and into Your marvelous light.

In Jesus' name, we pray.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
