We hear the deep anguish in your heart, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting your daughter before the throne of grace. The pain of watching a loved one struggle with rebellion, stubbornness, and harmful behavior is heavy, and we grieve with you. But we also know that our God is a God of restoration, healing, and transformation. He is able to break chains, soften hearts, and bring repentance where there is hardness.
First, we must address the spiritual battle at hand. The behaviors you describe—abusive, controlling, demanding, rebellious—are not merely personality flaws but manifestations of a heart that has strayed from God’s design. Scripture warns us in Proverbs 29:1, "He who is often rebuked and stiffens his neck will be destroyed suddenly, with no remedy." This is a sobering truth, but it is not without hope. God’s discipline is born of love, and His correction is meant to lead to life. We must pray that your daughter’s heart would be tenderized by the Holy Spirit, that she would recognize the destruction of her ways, and turn back to the Lord with humility.
We also recognize the weight of your own suffering in this. You are not meant to carry this burden alone. Jesus tells us in Matthew 11:28, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest." We pray that you would find your strength in Him, that He would sustain you in this trial, and that He would give you wisdom in how to respond to your daughter with both truth and grace. Proverbs 15:1 reminds us, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger." This does not mean tolerating sin, but responding in a way that does not fuel the fire of rebellion.
Let us now come before the Lord in prayer:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious daughter to You. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of rebellion, stubbornness, and control that have taken hold of her life. Soften her heart, Father, and let her see the destruction of her ways. Bring conviction by Your Holy Spirit, that she may turn from sin and run to You for forgiveness and restoration.
Lord, we pray for protection over this family. Guard their hearts from bitterness, anger, and despair. Give them the strength to stand firm in Your truth while extending grace and love. Father, we ask that You would intervene in this situation in a mighty way—whether through Your discipline, Your mercy, or a powerful encounter with Your presence. Let her experience the depth of Your love, which is able to transform even the hardest of hearts.
We also pray for wisdom for this parent. Grant them discernment in how to respond, when to speak, and when to step back and trust You. Let Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, guard their heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Surround them with a community of believers who can support, encourage, and pray alongside them.
Father, we rebuke every spirit of rebellion, control, and destruction that has taken root in this situation. We declare that Your authority is supreme, and we command these forces to flee in the name of Jesus. We speak life, healing, and restoration over this daughter and this family. May Your will be done, and may Your name be glorified in all of this.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you to continue seeking the Lord in this, not only in prayer but also in fasting if the Spirit leads you. Sometimes, the most powerful breakthroughs come when we humble ourselves before God and seek His face with everything we have. James 4:7-8 tells us, "Be subject therefore to God. But resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." This is a promise we can stand on.
Additionally, we urge you to seek godly counsel—whether through your pastor, a trusted Christian counselor, or a mature believer who can walk alongside you in this. You do not have to navigate this alone. Galatians 6:2 instructs us, "Bear one another’s burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ."
Lastly, remember that God’s timing is not our own. While we long for immediate change, He is working in ways we may not see. Trust in His faithfulness, even when the circumstances seem impossible. He is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and do not grow weary in doing good (Galatians 6:9). Your prayers are not in vain.
