About Turn!

When I served as a military policeman I often had to attend parades and participate in drills. One particular drill step was called the about turn, sometimes called about face. This step has soldiers marching in one direction and then suddenly executing a smooth turn in the opposite direction. We French Canadians had an extra move before executing the about turn. We would slam our right foot down and then we would execute the turn. Today as a Christian I see this maneuver symbolically as repentance. We take a stand against sin by firmly setting our feet to the ground and then completely turning around in a sure way.

Setting your foot on the ground is akin to taking a stance against sinning. It's repentance. The about turn is comparable to changing your old ways and opting for the new way. This transition can be seen as baptism.

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.
Acts 2:38

“Repent ye therefore, and be converted, that your sins may be blotted out, when the times of refreshing shall come from the presence of the Lord;”
Acts 3:19

The steps leading to Salvation in Acts 2:38 are,
1. Repentance
2. baptism
3. remission of sins
4 the gift of the Holy Spirit.

Acts 3:19 present the same idea this way;
1. Repentance
2. to turn,
3. the blotting out of sins
4. the times of refreshing.
Two passages, one message.

Repent is a change of the heart and mind. It's a true understanding of one's transgression against God and having the will to change. It demands an about-turn. This about turn to God is immediate, never hesitating. For if one delays, then it's not true repentance. One passes through the old threshold into the new. They have been baptized.
Your sins have been forgiven. The Gift of the Holy Spirit is given.

Sometimes I could just turn back time to when life was simple and pleasant. But times change and we must look ahead of us, into the future. Turning our eyes on the Lord. He has better plans for us.
