Abortion is wrong.

Your burden for the unborn reflects what Scripture teaches about life. God has set before us life and death and calls us to choose life that we might live. From the beginning He offered the tree of life, and now He has offered life again through the cross of Jesus Christ. That life is precious to Him, including life in the womb, and to deliberately take that life is sin. Abortion on demand is a terrible wrong for any people to allow, because it destroys what God is forming.

The Bible also teaches that real life, eternal life, is found only in the Son. God has given us eternal life and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life. This is not only a length of life but a quality of life, a life of righteousness and peace and joy in fellowship with God. Life apart from Him, lived only for the body and its desires, becomes empty and frustrated, but life in Christ is full and overflows. That is why the contrast in Scripture is always life and light in Christ against sin and death and darkness apart from Him. The wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.

I understand the grief and anger you feel when you see those who claim the name of Christ supporting what takes life. Your conviction that this is wrong is right. At the same time Scripture cautions us in how we hold our convictions toward others. We will all stand before the judgment seat of Christ, and the books will be opened. Judgment belongs to Him because He alone sees the heart. We are not to think of ourselves as more spiritual than another or to pass our personal conviction onto others as a measure of their salvation, but to walk in love. That does not mean we soften the truth. It means we speak the truth about sin and about life while remembering that we ourselves were nothing until Christ found us, and we were dead in sin until He gave us new life.

That new life is a spiritual life. When we are born again by the Spirit of God, the Spirit becomes the governing power, not the flesh. The old life after the flesh is buried with Christ in His death, and we are raised to walk in newness of life with Him. So we have a choice each day whether our lives will be ruled by the flesh or by the Spirit. Part of that new life is to reckon the deeds of the old life as dead, to turn from them, and to live unto God. For someone who has supported or participated in abortion, the call is the same as for any sin, to repent, to receive the life that is in Jesus, and to be made new.

Pray that God will open eyes to see the value He places on every life He creates, and to see that forgiveness and new life are offered in Christ. Pray that those who are deceived would come to know the Son and so receive life, and that the church would have courage to choose life and to uphold it with both truth and grace. May the Lord help you to hold fast to what is right without bitterness, to speak for those who cannot speak for themselves, and to commend with gentleness the hope of life that is only in Jesus.
