We come before the Lord with this request, seeking His grace and strength during this time of fasting. Fasting is a powerful spiritual discipline that draws us closer to God, humbles our hearts, and sharpens our focus on His will. The Bible tells us in Matthew 6:16-18, "Moreover when you fast, don’t be like the hypocrites, with sad faces. For they disfigure their faces, that they may be seen by men to be fasting. Most certainly I tell you, they have received their reward. But you, when you fast, anoint your head, and wash your face; so that you are not seen by men to be fasting, but by your Father who is in secret, and your Father, who sees in secret, will reward you."
We recognize that fasting is not merely about abstaining from food but about seeking God’s face with a sincere heart. It is a time to lay down our own desires and submit fully to His purpose. Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we lift up this time of fasting to You, asking that You would strengthen and sustain Your child. Lord, we know that the flesh is weak, but Your Spirit is strong. Help them to press into You, to seek Your face above all else, and to find their sustenance in Your Word and Your presence. Guard their heart from discouragement or distraction, and fill them with Your peace and joy as they draw near to You. May this fast be a time of breakthrough, revelation, and deepening intimacy with You. We ask that You would reveal Your will and purpose in this season, and that You would empower them to walk in obedience to Your leading. In the mighty name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
We also encourage you to pair your fasting with prayer and the study of God’s Word. Isaiah 58:6-9 reminds us of the true fast that God desires: "Isn’t this the fast that I have chosen: to release the bonds of wickedness, to undo the straps of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every yoke? Isn’t it to distribute your bread to the hungry, and that you bring the poor who are cast out to your house? When you see the naked, that you cover him; and that you not hide yourself from your own flesh? Then your light will break out as the morning, and your healing will appear quickly; then your righteousness shall go before you; and the Lord’s glory will be your rear guard. Then you will call, and the Lord will answer; you will cry, and he will say, ‘Here I am.’"
Let this fast be more than a physical discipline—let it be a time of spiritual renewal and alignment with God’s heart. If there are specific areas of your life where you need God’s intervention, bring them before Him with honesty and faith. He is faithful to hear and answer the prayers of His children. Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of our faith, and trust that He will guide you through this season.
