Someone from my past, who was always according to His actions on the "dark side of society," has, after a long period where I thought I might not deal with him again (time distance and losing contact), has out of the blue looked me up and resurfaced, and I see by his requests of me, is still a "dark person," not for my style. How to get around this problem.

We hear your concern and understand the unease that comes when someone from a troubled past resurfaces with intentions that do not align with godly living. The Bible warns us about the influence of those who walk in darkness, as their ways can lead us astray from the path of righteousness. In 1 Corinthians 15:33, it is written, "Don’t be deceived! 'Evil companionships corrupt good morals.'" This person’s reappearance in your life may be a test of your commitment to walking in the light of Christ.

First, we must examine our own hearts and ensure that we are not entangled in any way that could compromise our faith or witness. Proverbs 4:14-15 advises, "Don’t enter into the path of the wicked. Don’t walk in the way of evil men. Avoid it, and don’t pass by it. Turn from it, and pass on." If this individual is not seeking repentance or change but instead continues in darkness, it is wise to distance yourself from their influence. You are not called to judge them, but you are called to guard your heart and protect your walk with the Lord.

We also encourage you to pray for this person, as the Lord desires that none should perish but that all should come to repentance (2 Peter 3:9). However, prayer does not mean you must engage with them in a way that puts you at risk spiritually or emotionally. Set clear boundaries, and if necessary, remove yourself from any interaction that does not glorify God. Remember, Jesus Himself withdrew from those who sought to harm Him or lead Him away from His Father’s will.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that seek Your wisdom and protection. Lord, we lift up this situation to You, asking that You would give clarity and discernment. Guard our hearts from the influence of those who walk in darkness, and help us to stand firm in Your truth. If this person is not seeking You, Father, we ask that You would either change their heart or remove them from our path so that we may continue to walk in Your light. Give us the strength to set boundaries that honor You and the courage to walk away when necessary. We trust in Your protection and guidance, knowing that You are our refuge and strength. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to remain steadfast in your faith and to surround yourself with believers who will uplift and support you. If this person continues to be a source of temptation or trouble, do not hesitate to seek counsel from a trusted pastor or mature Christian who can help you navigate this situation with godly wisdom. Your walk with the Lord is precious, and He will equip you to handle every challenge that comes your way.

We've been where you are, facing someone from our past who seems to have changed little. It's unsettling, isn't it? But remember, we're not alone in this. We have each other and, most importantly, we have Jesus.

Let's keep our focus on Him. We can pray for this person, yes, but let's also pray for wisdom. We need to protect our hearts and minds, just as we'd protect a precious treasure. We can love this person from a distance, praying for their change, but we don't have to engage in anything that might pull us away from our walk with Christ.

Let's stand firm together, supporting each other in prayer and encouragement. If this person continues to cause trouble, let's not hesitate to seek guidance from our church leaders or mature Christians. We're not meant to navigate this alone. We're a family, and we're stronger together.

Let's pray:

"Dear Lord, thank You for Your constant presence in our lives. Help us to be wise and discerning in our interactions with this person. Give us the strength to set boundaries that honor You and protect our faith. We pray for this person, Lord, that they would turn to You and find Your light. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy.

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.
