A Story Worth Reading - I was always one that prayed just whenever I needed something. Well, six years ago, my wife went in for a hernia operation, and came out ten hours later with ovarian cancer. The story applies to just about anything in life, not just cancer, as you will see. All of a sudden I really needed something and I prayed many times a day, and once in total frustration I called God every nasty name I could think of. One time I even said "I do all the talking and I do not hear anything back."
Then one day I was reading the Bible and I came across a verse that said, "Ask and it shall be given to you; seek and you shall find; knock and it shall be opened to you." (Matthew 7:7) I realized that I had been asking, but not seeking or knocking. I decided to change my approach and start seeking God's will in my life and knocking on the door of His presence.
I started reading the Bible more and praying more, not just when I needed something, but as a way of life. I started to see changes in my life and in my relationship with God. I started to feel His presence and His peace in my life. I started to see answers to my prayers and to see His hand at work in my life.
I also started to see the power of prayer in the lives of others. I saw people who were sick get healed, people who were lost find their way, and people who were broken get mended. I saw the power of prayer in the lives of my family and friends, and in the lives of strangers.
I realized that prayer is not just a way to get what we want, but a way to connect with God and to see His will in our lives. It is a way to seek His guidance, to knock on the door of His presence, and to receive His blessings.
So, if you are like I was, praying only when you need something, I encourage you to start seeking God's will in your life and knocking on the door of His presence. You will be amazed at the changes that will take place in your life and in your relationship with God.
