A son for a ### who wants a son

Someone I know wants a son. I pray God has prepared a wonderful woman that he never wronged and is a blessing for his family (and his mother) to bring that child into the world. First I pray his darkness comes to the light so she doesn’t go blindly into the relationship and regret ever doing that for him if she only knew the truth of what he did.

We hear your heartfelt concern for this man and the woman who may one day join his life. First, we must address the foundational truth that all things are possible with God, and children are indeed a blessing from Him. The Bible tells us, "Behold, children are a heritage of Yahweh, the fruit of the womb is his reward" (Psalm 127:3 WEB). However, we must also approach this request with discernment and a commitment to biblical truth.

We notice your prayer includes a desire for this man’s "darkness" to come to light. This is a wise and necessary plea. Scripture warns us, "For there is nothing hidden that will not be revealed, nor anything secret that will not be known and come to light" (Luke 8:17 WEB). If this man has unconfessed sin, deceit, or unrepentant behavior in his past or present, it must be brought before the Lord in humility and repentance. A godly marriage cannot be built on a foundation of hidden sin or unaddressed brokenness. We join you in praying that if there is any darkness in his life—whether it be sexual immorality, dishonesty, pride, or any other sin—it would be exposed so that he may seek forgiveness and healing through Jesus Christ. Only then can he enter into a covenant relationship with a pure heart.

We also lift up the woman who may one day be his wife. She must be a woman of godly character, wisdom, and discernment. The Bible instructs, "An excellent wife is the crown of her husband, but she who causes shame is like rottenness in his bones" (Proverbs 12:4 WEB). We pray she would be a woman who fears the Lord, walks in integrity, and seeks His will above all else. May she not be swayed by charm or empty promises but instead be rooted in the Word of God, able to discern truth from deception. We pray she would enter into marriage with her eyes wide open, fully aware of who this man is—both his strengths and his weaknesses—so that she may love him as Christ loves the church.

It is also crucial that this man understands the sacredness of marriage and the responsibility of fatherhood. If he desires a son, he must first be prepared to lead, provide for, and spiritually nurture his family. The Bible commands, "Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church and gave himself up for it" (Ephesians 5:25 WEB). Fatherhood is not merely about biological lineage but about raising children in the discipline and instruction of the Lord (Ephesians 6:4 WEB). We pray this man would seek the Lord’s will for his life, surrendering his desires to God’s perfect timing and plan.

We must also address the reality that not every desire for a child is automatically aligned with God’s will. If this man is not currently walking in obedience to Christ, his first priority must be repentance and restoration. The Bible warns, "The one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption. But the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life" (Galatians 6:8 WEB). If he is living in sin—whether it be sexual immorality, idolatry, or any other disobedience—he must turn from those ways and seek the Lord wholeheartedly. Only then can he be in a position to receive the blessings God has for him.

Finally, we must emphasize that salvation through Jesus Christ is the foundation for all godly relationships. If this man does not know Jesus as his Lord and Savior, his first step must be to repent of his sins and place his faith in Christ alone. The Bible declares, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5 WEB). There is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12 WEB). We pray that if he has not yet surrendered his life to Christ, he would do so without delay, for apart from Jesus, there is no true peace, no lasting joy, and no foundation for a godly family.

Let us now lift this situation before the Lord in prayer:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, seeking Your will in this matter. Lord, we lift up this man who desires a son, and we ask that You would first search his heart and reveal any hidden sin or darkness within him. If there is unconfessed wrongdoing, pride, or rebellion, we pray You would bring it to light so that he may repent and be cleansed by the blood of Jesus. Father, we ask that You would prepare his heart to be a godly husband and father, one who leads his family in righteousness and loves his wife as Christ loves the church.

We also pray for the woman who may one day be his wife. Lord, we ask that You would guide her steps and give her wisdom and discernment. May she be a woman of strong faith, rooted in Your Word, and able to recognize truth from deception. Protect her from entering into a relationship blindly, and give her the courage to walk away if this man is not prepared to honor You in marriage.

Father, we know that children are a blessing from You, but we also know that not every desire for a child is aligned with Your will. We pray that this man would seek You first, surrendering his plans and desires to Your perfect timing. If it is Your will for him to have a son, we ask that You would bring the right woman into his life—a woman who will be a helpmeet, a blessing to his family, and a godly mother to his children. But above all, Lord, we pray that both he and his future wife would know You intimately, walking in obedience to Your Word and reflecting Your love to the world.

We also pray for any brokenness or past wounds that may be hindering this man from fully embracing Your plan for his life. Heal his heart, Lord, and restore what has been lost. May he find his identity in Christ alone, and may his desire for a son be rooted in a desire to raise up the next generation for Your glory.

Finally, Lord, we ask that You would be glorified in this situation. Whether You choose to bless this man with a son or lead him in a different direction, may he trust in Your goodness and sovereignty. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we can approach Your throne. Amen.

We're here with you, friend, praying for this man who desires a son. We've been thinking about the wisdom in the old saying, "Be careful what you wish for, for it may be yours." We believe God has a wonderful plan for this man's life, but it's crucial to align our desires with His will.

We join the previous prayer in asking God to reveal any darkness in this man's life. But we also want to emphasize the importance of patience and trust in God's timing. The Bible tells us in Galatians 5:22-23, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, forbearance, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." We pray that this man would cultivate these fruits in his life, for they are the true markers of a godly man, not just the desire for a son.

We also pray for the woman who may one day be his wife. May she be a woman of faith, strength, and discernment. We ask God to give her wisdom to see this man clearly, to love him as he is, and to support him in his growth. We pray that their relationship would be built on a foundation of truth, love, and mutual respect.

We're reminded of Proverbs 18:22, "He who finds a wife finds a good thing and obtains favor from the Lord." We pray that this man would find favor in God's eyes and that God would bless him with a wife who will be a blessing to him and their future family.

Let's continue to lift this situation up to God, trusting in His love and wisdom. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
