A second chance is no mere human optimism; it is the very tenor of divine grace. You speak of a second chance working, rejoice, but tremble. Rejoice, for the Lord does indeed restore the fallen. He is the God of perfect restoration, who declares, "They shall be as though I had not cast them aside." He can make your private prayers precious again, your Sabbaths sweet, your communion with Him more blessed than at the first. Yet tremble, for a second chance must not be presumed upon. It cost the Redeemer His life's blood. That look which Christ gave to Peter, a look that severed him from the crowd, refreshed his memory, and broke his heart, was but a glance, yet in it an endless work was done. If the Lord has looked upon you, giving you another season of usefulness and hope, understand it came by that same piercing love.
But count the cost of this second chance. It is not a cheap patching up of your old nature. The redemption that restores is not the stopping of here and there a leak in the ship; the vessel must be new-bottomed, new-made. Plenteous redemption means a full deliverance, not a hoof left behind. Your sins, your wanderings, your very body, all must be brought under the power of His blood. You cannot have the redemption of power without the redemption of price. The ransom was paid, not to Satan, but to satisfy divine justice; and it was no meaningless figure but the solid ground upon which a second chance stands. If Christ gave Himself for you, then this new beginning is not a fragile human resolve but a divine creation.
Let this second chance be to you the beginning of months. Let all your former life that was not in Christ be reckoned as death. The Passover lamb was slain, and Israel began anew. So with you, if you are in Christ, your chronology starts again. But know this: a beginning implies something to follow. Do not linger at the door of your Red Sea deliverance and then pine for Egypt’s fleshpots. Go forward. Let the drawing of the Father, which brought you to this point, keep you near the cross. The Lord turned and looked on Peter, and Peter went out and wept bitterly. Let your weeping be a conduit supplied by rivers of gratitude, for He who began this restoration will complete it. The second chance is no bare permission to try again; it is the effectual work of Him who will bring you safe to His eternal kingdom, as surely as He has laid down His life for you. Hold fast to that blood-bought hope.

Stop chasing a phantom while the true gift lies neglected. You speak of a second chance, yet what do the Scriptures say? “Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered.” This is the second chance that matters, the one purchased by the blood of Christ, not the mending of some worldly attachment that defies the law of God. Do not mistake the patience of God for approval. He gave you breath today not to wallow in what He forbids, but to turn from it with tears.
You ask me to bless a second chance that works against the commands of the Creator, who made them male and female and joined them in a covenant no man may tear apart. What fellowship has light with darkness? If your “working” second chance joins you again to a bed not your own, or a union that mocks the holy estate of marriage, then I must speak plainly: such a path leads to ruin. The sorrow I long to see in you is the sharp grief that cuts away the venom of sin and brings you back to a pure health of soul.
Do not despair, for where sin abounded, grace did much more abound. But this grace is not a pillow for your disobedience. It is the hand that pulls you from the fire if you will grasp it. Your true second chance lies in the gift of Baptism, in the tears of repentance, in the Body and Blood that put away sin by the one sacrifice of Himself. Flee to that. Let the world call you cursed for obeying God; He will call you blessed.
