A Prayer for Peace, strength and hope

You cry out for peace, and rightly so, for peace is the mother of all good things, the foundation of joy. But do not mistake the world’s peace, a mere truce among circumstances, for the peace of Christ. See how the apostle greets the churches: “Grace to you and peace, from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” This is no light word. It is the peace that Christ Himself left His disciples, saying, “My peace I give unto you.” When you hear the presiding minister in the assembly pronounce, “Peace be unto you,” receive it as Christ’s own gift. True peace is not the absence of trouble but the reconciliation of heaven and earth, the cutting off of what is diseased so that the whole body may be healthy. You ask for a quiet heart and a stable life; then cling to this peace, not the fragile calm of robbers agreeing together, but the peace that comes from being rightly ordered under your King, who is both King of righteousness and King of Salem, that is, King of Peace.

Why are you discouraged, worried, overwhelmed? You say you do not fully understand, but look closely: your heart is entangled in earthly things, finances, the future, even the numbers on a screen. These are the very cares that choke the word. You measure your worth by followers and views, as if registering the names of men as patrons of your work. But your calling is from God! You are sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be a saint, and you are not your own. Of Him that calleth is everything; of you, the called, what is there but to obey? If He created the universe out of nothing, a truth far more staggering than any daily provision, will He not care for you and your household? You ask for open doors; He is the door. You beg for wisdom; He is the wisdom of God. Trust not in your own reasoning, for the philosophers who rely on that are blown about by every doubt. Faith is required. Believe that He is working even when your eyes see nothing but closed paths.

You long for a simple, peaceful life. This is not a small thing, but do not imagine that peace depends on a full purse. The Lord’s peace is a gift that flourishes in poverty and plenty alike. Remember, each believer has an angel who continually beholds the face of the Father, your guardian is not idle. So be sober, as in the presence of a tutor, and do not let the demon of fear whisper that you are abandoned. The very fact that you cried out shows the Spirit at work within you.

And as for your blogging, understand this: you serve not men but the Lord Christ. If you create with a joyful heart, entrusting the outcome to Him, then your labor is not in vain, whether ten or ten thousand read it. Better days are ahead, yes, but they may not look as you imagine. They are the days of drawing closer to the eternal peace, the days when you learn to overlook worldly things and cleave to what is spiritual. In that way, you will have earth with heaven, and all anxiety will be put to flight.

Rise, then, from your discouragement. He who called you is faithful. Go in the peace of Christ, and let that peace rule in your heart. The Lord carries what you cannot carry, only do not snatch it back. One day at a time, one prayer at a time, look not at the waves but at Him who walks upon them.

Your prayer reached us, and I want to share some thoughts that might help steady your heart right now. The heaviness you feel, the discouragement, the fear, the nagging uncertainty about finances, the future, even the blogging, can seem like a tangled knot. But Scripture shows us that peace begins not with untangling everything, but with where we set our minds. God keeps in perfect peace the one whose mind is stayed on Him, because that person trusts in Him. So the very first step is simply turning your eyes away from the swirling worries and fixing them on the Lord who already holds it all.

Worry never solves anything. It only tightens its grip and chases away faith. Fear and faith cannot dwell together; when fear rushes in, faith is crowded out. But the moment you remember the Lord, truly remember that He is with you, that He sees your need, that He loves you, fear loses its voice. That doesn't always mean the circumstances change overnight, but the peace of God, a peace so deep it defies human logic, can stand guard over your heart and your mind in Christ Jesus. That peace isn't fragile. It flows from being rightly related to God through Jesus, and it remains when you keep turning to Him.

So when your mind starts spinning through the bills, the unknowns, or the question of whether your work matters because the numbers are small, don’t grapple with those thoughts alone. That’s the moment to pray. Instead of letting worry rehearse the problem, let prayer bring it into God’s hands. “Lord, here it is. I can’t carry this. I trust You to provide, to open the right doors, to give wisdom. I’m giving You my anxious thoughts.” And then leave them there. It may be a moment-by-moment surrender, but that’s the path to peace. God doesn’t ask you to figure out the whole future today. He asks you to trust Him with today, and to do the next right thing.

Regarding your blogging, your identity and worth were never meant to rest on followers, views, or the reaction of others. The fear of man is a snare, but trusting in the Lord brings safety. Delight yourself in the Lord, commit your work to Him, and let the outcome be His. Create with a joyful heart because you’re offering it to Him, not because you need the approval. When you measure by His acceptance, the sting of small numbers loses its power.

On finances and stability, remember that God knows your limitations and your needs. Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will direct your path. Sometimes He provides in unexpected ways; sometimes He teaches us to rest while we wait. The end of a life that walks with Him is peace, not necessarily ease, but a deep, settled confidence that He is working. Don’t run after human solutions out of fear. Let your fear of God be a reverence that hates evil and loves His will, not a terror that He will harm you. He is your Father who cares.

Take one day at a time. When the weight returns, don’t entertain the fear. Turn it into prayer, with thanksgiving. Thank Him for what He has already done. Remembering the Lord is the cure for fear. He is your strength, your provider, your peace. You are not alone. Keep your mind stayed on Him, and His perfect peace will carry you through.
