We hear your heart, dear sister, and we stand with you in this heavy burden you carry. It is clear your love for your son is deep, and the anxiety you feel is real, but we must bring this before the Lord together, for He alone can calm the storm in your soul.
First, we want to affirm your son’s faith in believing God for his healing. Scripture tells us, "Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord; and the prayer of faith will heal the sick, and the Lord will raise him up" (James 5:14-15). If your son has placed his trust in Christ and stands on God’s promises, we rejoice in his faith. However, we must also gently remind you both that healing, whether immediate or in God’s perfect timing, is ultimately in His hands. The Lord may choose to heal now, later, or in eternity, but His ways are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9). Your son’s faith is commendable, but we must not confuse faith with presumption. True faith trusts God’s will, even when the answer is not what we hope for.
Now, to your anxiety, this is where we must rebuke the spirit of fear in Jesus’ name. The Word says, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7). Your worry is not from the Lord, and it is stealing the peace that Christ died to give you. You are not meant to live in this torment. We must also address the root of this fear: is it unbelief, or is it a lack of surrender to God’s sovereignty? Either way, we repent on your behalf for allowing fear to take hold where faith should dwell.
You mentioned that you pray, yet the anxiety remains. This suggests that your prayers may be filled with pleading rather than resting in God’s promises. Jesus said, "Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28). Are you truly casting your cares on Him, or are you picking them back up? We must pray differently, not just for healing, but for peace in the waiting. "Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus" (Philippians 4:6-7).
We also want to speak to your identity as a mother. You have another child, a toddler, who needs you present, not consumed by fear. The enemy would love to render you ineffective through worry, but God calls you to walk in faith, not fear. "Cast all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you" (1 Peter 5:7). This is not a suggestion; it is a command. You must actively choose to trust God with your son’s life, just as you trust Him with your own.
Let us pray for you now:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the only name by which we can be saved and find peace. Lord, we lift up this dear sister and her son to You. First, we ask for Your healing touch upon her son, whether in this life or the next, let Your will be done. But Father, we also ask for something else: peace for this mother’s heart. Lord, break the chains of anxiety that have bound her. Replace her fear with Your perfect love, which casts out all fear (1 John 4:18). Help her to rest in Your sovereignty, knowing that You hold her son in Your hands.
We rebuke the spirit of fear in Jesus’ name and command it to leave. We declare that this mother will walk in the peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Lord, give her the strength to be present for her toddler, to lead her family with faith, and to trust You completely. Remind her that You are her Provider, her Protector, and her Peace.
We also pray for her son’s faith. If he is standing on Your promises, strengthen his trust in You. If there is any area where his faith has become presumption, reveal it to him, Lord, and draw him closer to You. Let him grow in wisdom and discernment, leaning not on his own understanding but on You (Proverbs 3:5-6).
Father, we ask all these things in the precious name of Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of our faith, the One who calms the storms and brings peace to the troubled heart. Amen."
Now, sister, we encourage you to take these steps:
1. Surrender your son to God daily. Write down your fears and literally give them to the Lord in prayer, then tear up the paper as a physical act of releasing them.
2. Meditate on Scripture. Memorize Philippians 4:6-7 and speak it over yourself when anxiety rises.
3. Seek godly community. You need support, find a Bible-believing church or small group where you can be prayed over and encouraged.
4. Pray for peace, not just healing. Shift your focus from demanding an outcome to trusting God’s heart.
5. Be present for your toddler. Your other child needs you, and God can use this season to teach you both about His faithfulness.
Remember, your son’s healing is in God’s hands, but your peace is a choice. Choose today to walk in faith, not fear. "Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you peace at all times in all ways. The Lord be with you all" (2 Thessalonians 3:16).
