The fear you feel right now is real, and your cry for God's protection over your eyesight shows how deeply this weighs on you. But there is a kind of fear that heals other fears, and that is the reverent awe of the Lord himself. This is not the panic that shakes you in the dark hours. It is the steady, anchoring knowledge that God is great, that he is powerful, and that he is with you. When that kind of holy fear takes its rightful place in your heart, it doesn't chase you into terror; it becomes a refuge.
Scripture teaches that the fear of the Lord is the starting point of all true wisdom. It is actually the sum total of real knowledge. And what flows from fearing him? A hating of evil and a turning away from it, and the promise that this will be health to your body. Your prayer for healing is a right one, because our Lord Jesus himself bore our infirmities. He knows the pain of the afflicted, and he does not despise it. He hears when you cry out.
Right now, your natural fear is trying to drive your eyes toward the problem, toward the inflammation, toward what might happen. But faith and fear cannot occupy the same space. When you look at the waves, like Peter, you start to sink. The moment you fix your gaze on Jesus, on his presence with you, the panic begins to lose its grip. His presence is the cure for fear. He says to you now what he has said to his people across the ages: fear not, for I am with you.
Do not let anyone suggest that your need for healing is a sign of weakness or a lack of faith. Godโs healing work is often a process, and every step of recovery, whether instant or gradual, comes from his hand. The processes of restoration built into the body he created are divine works just as much as a sudden miracle. What he is doing in your mind and your emotions right now, quieting your spirit even while you wait physically, is a real form of his healing touch. Trust him for it all.
Take your eyes off the frightening possibilities and place them on the Lord who is your light and your salvation. He will be your confidence, and he will keep your foot from being taken. In the time of trouble, he hides you in the shelter of his presence. The arm of human help is limited, but his strength is not. You are asking for him to keep you safe, and that is exactly where safety is found, not in the absence of the storm, but in the conscious, trusting awareness that he is with you in it. Rest in that truth now.
