Disciple of Prayer
Please join me in praying for my dad, ###, as he fights liver cancer. We are praying for his complete healing, strength, and peace, and for wisdom for his medical team. We truly appreciate your support—it means the world to us to know we aren't walking this path alone.

We stand with you in this difficult time, lifting your father before the throne of grace with heavy yet hopeful hearts. The battle against cancer is fierce, but our God is mightier still. We know the fear and uncertainty that accompany such a diagnosis, and we want you to know that you are not walking this path alone. The Lord is near to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit (Psalm 34:18). He is the Great Physician, and we trust in His power to heal, whether through divine intervention or the skillful hands of the medical team He has placed around your father.

Father God, in the name of Jesus Christ, we come before You with hearts full of faith and dependence on Your sovereign will. We ask for Your healing touch to rest upon . You are the God who heals, and we claim Your promise in Jeremiah 30:17, "For I will restore health to you, and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh." We pray for complete restoration of his body, that the cancer would be eradicated and his strength renewed. Sustain him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding, guarding his heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7).

We also lift up the medical team treating him, Lord. Grant them wisdom, discernment, and clarity as they make decisions regarding his care. May they be instruments of Your healing hand, guided by Your perfect knowledge. Give them patience, compassion, and skill as they work to bring about the best possible outcome for .

We ask that You would draw near to this family, Lord. Comfort them in their weariness and fill them with hope as they wait upon You. Remind them daily that You are their refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). Surround them with Your love and the support of Your people, so they may feel Your presence in tangible ways.

If there is any unconfessed sin or unforgiveness in ’s life, we pray that You would bring it to light so it may be dealt with according to Your Word. We know that sin can hinder our prayers (Psalm 66:18), so we ask that You would cleanse and purify his heart, that nothing would stand between him and Your healing power. We rebuke the spirit of sickness and disease in the name of Jesus, declaring that it has no place in his body. By the stripes of Jesus, he was healed (Isaiah 53:5), and we stand on that truth today.

Above all, Lord, we pray that Your will would be done in this situation. We trust that You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). Whether You choose to heal him miraculously or call him home to glory, we know that Your ways are higher than ours, and Your plans are perfect. Prepare this family for whatever outcome You have ordained, and let Your name be glorified through it all.

We also want to gently remind you of the hope that is found in Jesus Christ alone. It is through His name that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name under heaven by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). If your father has not placed his faith in Jesus, we pray that this time of trial would draw him to the Savior. Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for our sins and rose again so that we might have eternal life. We encourage you to share this truth with him, that he may know the peace and assurance of salvation.

Continue to stand on God’s promises, dear ones. The battle is not yours, but the Lord’s (2 Chronicles 20:15). Keep your eyes fixed on Him, and do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season you will reap if you do not faint (Galatians 6:9). We will continue to pray for your father, trusting that the Lord is working even when we cannot see it. May His grace be sufficient for you, and may His strength be made perfect in your weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9).

We are so grateful that you invited us to walk with you in this. When a loved one is facing something like liver cancer, the weight can settle deep, and yet, knowing that others are lifting your dad before God truly does carry a kind of grace. What you’ve described in your note echoes something many who have been supported through crisis have said: simply knowing that people are praying for you, by name, brings a steady comfort. That’s real. It’s a gift you’re already receiving, and we are honored to add our voices to it.

One simple thing that has strengthened others in similar days is to, if your dad is open to it, invite a couple of trusted people to pray with him and the family aloud, not just praying for him, but gathering near and speaking simple prayers together in his presence. Even a few minutes can settle fears and remind everyone that they are not alone. You might also find it helpful to let the medical team know that you are praying for them specifically, it can open gentle conversations and remind them that their work is valued.

We’ll be praying now.

Father, we lift up this dad to You. In Jesus’ name we ask for his complete healing, that every cell would respond to treatment and that his body would be restored in ways that point clearly to Your mercy. Sustain him with real strength today, and quiet any racing fears with Your peace that doesn’t make sense in the middle of hard news. Give his medical team sharp wisdom, steady hands, and compassionate hearts. And wrap this family in the assurance that they are not walking this path alone. Hold them close, we pray. Amen.

The weight of watching a father fight for his life is a heavy load, and I cannot pass by without stopping to speak a word with you about it. Your heart is set on his complete healing, and rightly so, for the Lord Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and His power to heal is no less now than when He walked in Capernaum and the sick were brought to Him on every side. You are not clinging to a fraying thread; you are holding fast to a mighty Savior who delights in mercy.

Think of that scene in the crowded house where the paralyzed man was let down through the roof. Four friends carried him, broke up the ceiling, and lowered him right at Jesus' feet because they believed. Your prayers, the support of those who stand with you, the very groaning of your soul before the throne, these are the hands that bring your dad before the Lord again and again. And take heart in this: the first word Christ spoke to that man was not about his body but about his soul. "Son, your sins are forgiven you." Pardon came before physical healing, as if to show us that the deeper work is always the Lord's chief concern and the sure foundation for every other mercy. Where sins are forgiven, there is peace, great peace, the sort that does not depend on whether the fever breaks or the tumor shrinks, but rests on Christ alone. That peace can fill your father's room even now, and it can keep your own heart steady while you wait.

You have asked for wisdom for the medical team, and that too is a petition after the Lord's own mind. Every good gift comes from above, and the skill of a physician is but one of those common graces our God pours out on the just and the unjust. Yet when the great Physician gives orders to the lesser ones, how wonderfully He guides! Prayer opens that channel. Do not think it a small thing to entrust them to Him. He knows the intricate workings of the body far better than we know a machine of our own making. He can direct their hands and their decisions, and He can even overrule where human knowledge reaches its limit.

But I know that when liver cancer is named, the mind runs far ahead into dark valleys. You fear what you cannot see. Then let me remind you: our God’s strength never fails. Ours does, yours will, mine has a thousand times, like a leaky cistern that runs dry by evening. But the Lord is a fountain fed by an inexhaustible spring. When you come to the end of your own resolve and your own hope, you have not come to the edge of His. I have seen men who thought they had no more faith left discover that Christ was keeping them all the while by a strength they did not even feel. You may be weak, but He remains faithful. You may tremble, but He does not.

And what if the path ahead holds things you would not choose? Does that mean He has left you? Far from it. I think of that verse the good bishop wrote, "Peace, perfect peace, by thronging duties pressed; to do the will of Jesus, this is rest." When you do not know what to do next, when the next consultation, the next treatment, the next sleepless night looms before you, remember that your part is simply to do the next thing He gives you, and leave the impossible to Him. You cannot see the outcome, but you can cast this whole matter into those pierced hands that were spread wide on the tree for you. The very blood that whispers peace within also pleads for your father's body and soul. That whisper is louder than any diagnosis.

One more thing: your family is not walking this road alone. You said the prayers of others mean the world to you, and indeed they do, not because they add any strength to Christ’s arm, but because they draw your own heart into the company of the saints who have always clung to the promise, "I will strengthen you; I will uphold you with My righteous right hand." That grip is personal. It is for your dad; it is for you. The same Lord who calls the stars by name knows the man you love and knows every cell in his frame. He has not forgotten you. He has not turned away. He is working, even in the silence, to bring about His good and perfect will.

Almighty God, our great Physician, we bring before You this dear father who fights against a relentless enemy. You are the God who heals all our diseases and forgives all our iniquities. Stretch out Your hand and touch him, bring restoration, we pray, to every part of his body that is afflicted. Grant him strength for the battle, peace that surpasses understanding, and the unshakable comfort of Your presence. Give wisdom and clear sight to every doctor, nurse, and technician who cares for him; guide them as instruments in Your hand. And uphold this family, Lord. When their hearts are overwhelmed, lead them to the Rock that is higher than they are. Let them know, deep in their spirits, that underneath are the everlasting arms. We ask all this in the strong name of Jesus Christ, our Lord. Amen.
