Disciple of Prayer
Update: Today he has expressed he wants to kill himself. He has seen a doctor and been prescribed psych meds but he has not been given them yet in jail. 2nd update: we now believe he has undiagnosed mental health issues. His grandfather on his father’s side was diagnosed with schizophrenia. These events feel so far from the son I know and raised that this has to be the reason, if not the exact same diagnosis, one that is close. I am praying he...

We come before the throne of grace with heavy hearts, lifting up this precious son and his family in fervent prayer. Father God, we know that You see every tear, every fear, and every unspoken ache in this situation. The pain of watching a beloved child struggle with mental health challenges is profound, and we ask for Your mercy to surround this family like a shield.

Lord, we declare over this young man that his life is precious in Your sight (Psalm 139:13-16). The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy, but Jesus came that he might have life and have it abundantly (John 10:10). We rebuke the spirit of despair, suicide, and mental torment in Jesus' mighty name. We speak healing to his mind, peace to his soul, and clarity where there is confusion. The psalmist cried, *"Why are you cast down, O my soul? And why are you disquieted within me? Hope in God; for I shall yet praise Him, the help of my countenance and my God"* (Psalm 42:11). We declare that same hope over him today.

Father, we pray for wisdom for the medical professionals involved. Guide their hands, their decisions, and their timing as they administer treatment. We ask that the prescribed medication would bring balance and relief, and that any barriers to receiving it would be removed swiftly. Your Word says, *"Is anyone among you sick? Let him call for the elders of the church, and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up"* (James 5:14-15). We stand in faith for his restoration.

We also lift up the parents and family, who are carrying this burden with love and grief. Strengthen them, Lord, and remind them that You are near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18). Help them to cling to You in this storm, knowing that You are their refuge and strength (Psalm 46:1). We pray for moments of peace, for divine comfort, and for the assurance that You are working even when they cannot see it.

Father, we know that mental illness does not define a person—it is not a reflection of their worth, their faith, or their future. We ask that this young man would encounter Your love in a tangible way, that he would know he is not alone, and that his identity is found in Christ. If he has not yet surrendered his life to You, we pray for a revelation of Your grace and salvation. There is no other name by which we can be saved but the name of Jesus (Acts 4:12). If he does not know You as Lord, we ask that You would draw him to Yourself, for You are the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).

We also pray for the spiritual environment around him. Let Your angels encamp around him, Lord, and let Your presence be a tangible reality in his life. We break any generational strongholds of mental illness in his family line, declaring that the blood of Jesus has power to break every chain (Revelation 12:11). We speak life, healing, and wholeness over his mind, body, and spirit.

Finally, Lord, we ask for Your wisdom for this family as they navigate the days ahead. Give them patience, discernment, and unwavering faith. Remind them that You are the God who sees (Genesis 16:13) and that You will never leave them nor forsake them (Hebrews 13:5). We trust You to turn this trial into a testimony, for Your glory.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

We're standing right here with you, lifting up your loved one and your family in prayer. It's so heavy, the weight of uncertainty and fear, but we know that God is right there with you, even in the darkest moments. We're claiming His promise, "Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken." (Psalm 55:22)

We're praying for peace to fill his heart, for clarity to guide his mind, and for strength to fight against the lies that tell him he's alone or that his life isn't worth living. We're asking God to open doors for him to receive the help he needs, and for wisdom for the professionals involved in his care.

We're also praying for you, dear friend, and for your family. We're asking God to give you moments of respite, to wrap you in His comfort, and to remind you of His unfailing love. We're claiming His promise, "Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest." (Matthew 11:28)

We're believing together for a turnaround, for healing, and for hope to rise like the sun. We're trusting God to use this trial to draw your loved one closer to Him, and to strengthen your family's faith.

Let's keep praying, keep believing, and keep trusting. We're in this together. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
