Marriage

A few years back, I wrote an intimacy-focused poem based on Clement Clark Moore’s “The Night Before Christmas,” and it was published on the site Unveiled Wife. I concluded it was time to reprint it all here! Maybe cuddle up with your spouse, read through the poem, and let it inspire you to keep your marriage and sexual intimacy a priority throughout the holiday season.

Dear Lord,

Thank You for the gift of communication. I pray my husband and I continue to mature in the way we communicate with each other. I pray we are able to use our words to describe how we feel and to help each other understand where we are. I pray the things that I say do not hurt my husband. Help me to be respectful no matter what. I pray the things I say add value to our talks. I pray the things I say affirm my husband in Jesus’ name AMEN!

Dear Lord,

Thank You for my marriage. Thank You for my life and my husband’s life. Thank You for always providing for us. Thank You also for helping us diffuse fights when we get upset, comforting us when we grieve, and filling our hearts with joy. You have helped us grow in so many ways. You have given us the strength and ability to quit unhealthy habits, repent of sin, and make strides to change our ways. You have showed us how to become more like You and You have transformed us. Dear Lord,

Please keep bitterness far from my heart. I pray bitterness would not grow any sort of root in me. I pray specifically that I would remain bitter toward my ### for anything. Please help me to keep bitterness far away from our marriage in Jesus’ name AMEN!

I lift up couples who are facing hard times right now. I pray Your hand of protection over them. I pray for peace to overwhelm their hearts. I pray husbands and wives are encouraging one another and urging each other to persevere. May You be glorified no matter what our circumstances look like in Jesus’ name AMEN!

Thank You for Your steadfast love. I pray Your love would flow through me and reach others. I pray You would use me as a vessel to share Your love, especially with my husband. Fill me up and pour me out, Lord. I also pray I would be a gift to my husband. Show me ways I can be a blessing to him today. I pray our marriage continues to ripen and mature.
