Bible Verse for Today

For we are but of yesterday, and know nothing, because our days upon earth are a shadow.

—Job 8:9 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

While Job never discovered why he suffered, he did learn his place in the universe before the Almighty God (Job chapters 38-41). Each of us needs this mature perspective! When we are young, time seems to pass very slowly — especially if we are excitedly waiting for something special! But as we grow older, the years seem to fly by quickly...

So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.

—Psalm 90:12 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

We waste our time when we lose our sense of urgency to live for God, TODAY! God has a plan for us, our world, and his church. Without God giving us his gift of spiritual calendaring ("number our days aright"), we never "gain a heart of wisdom." So how do we get such a gift? Pray without doubting, asking for God's help (James 1:5-7). We live each...

Then the Levites, Jeshua, and Kadmiel, Bani, Hashabniah, Sherebiah, Hodijah, Shebaniah, and Pethahiah, said, Stand up and bless the LORD your God for ever and ever: and blessed be thy glorious name, which is exalted above all blessing and praise.

—Nehemiah 9:5 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

"Stand up and shout it if you love my Jesus..." That's a song our children love to sing! But what happens to that youthful exuberance and joy at worshiping the LORD as we age? Scripture...

Call unto me, and I will answer thee, and shew thee great and mighty things, which thou knowest not.

—Jeremiah 33:3 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

God yearns for us to seek him and call out to him. Our verse for today is one of his many invitations to call on him and seek his will. He wants to answer us and tell us about things beyond our human comprehension. He longs to draw us close so that we can know him. Like a scared child might call out to a loving father in the...

Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths. Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.

—Psalm 25:4-5 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Life can be so confusing. We have many choices as we decide the values governing our lives. So how will we find the best way — and much more importantly, God's way — to live? We ask God to show us! Our hope is in him. Our salvation is in him. So why not ask him to guide us and...

For we have great joy and consolation in thy love, because the bowels of the saints are refreshed by thee, brother.

—Philemon 1:7 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Wouldn't this description of Philemon be a great one to have said about you? I know I would love to have this reputation among God's family! To be loved and supported, encouraged by an encourager, is to have your heart refreshed and your attitude lifted. Let's commit to being an "encourager" who refreshes the...

Charge them that are rich in this world, that they be not highminded, nor trust in uncertain riches, but in the living God, who giveth us richly all things to enjoy.

—1 Timothy 6:17 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

It is very easy to try and build our security around money, isn't it? But world catastrophes, economic collapses, embargoes, pandemics, and natural disasters can wipe out the basis of our security in a heartbeat if it is placed in earthly wealth or physical...

Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?

—Matthew 6:25 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Worries are many, and they all seem to trouble our hearts around bill time or tax time, don't they? Jesus reminded us that life is more than food, clothes, or money. The real question is whether we can live like life is more...

I know both how to be abased, and I know how to abound: every where and in all things I am instructed both to be full and to be hungry, both to abound and to suffer need.

—Philippians 4:12 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Contentment! Mmmm, I'd like to have a little of that! How about you? Paul was in prison when he wrote those words. I want the peace and joy from Jesus that assures contentment in any situation! However, I find it hard to be contented about almost anything...

As the cold of snow in the time of harvest, so is a faithful messenger to them that send him: for he refresheth the soul of his masters.

—Proverbs 25:13 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

I'm not sure where you are located, but it's been blistering hot where I am. Anything cool and refreshing sounds incredibly wonderful. If you've ever worked a harvest and gotten the dust, plant fragments, and sweat up under your shirt, you know how refreshing a cool glass of water is to your...
