We hear the bewilderment and sorrow in your words as you ponder the final chapter of life, the mixture of horrors and joys, wicked deeds and other actions, and the deep loss you feel with your mother gone, and we join with you in seeking the mercy of Jesus Christ together.
We want to gently correct the thought that the Helper has gone with your mother, for Jesus promised that the Helper remains with those who belong to Him. He said, I will pray to the Father, and he will give you another Counselor, that he may be with you forever, John 14:16, and that Counselor, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things, and will remind you of all that I said to you, John 14:26. Even in the valley of grief, He has not left you. Jesus Himself said, I will not leave you orphans. I will come to you, John 14:18. Your mother may have finished her course, but the Helper who comforted her is still here to comfort you.
The Lord understands bewildering horrors and the search for meaning in what life holds. There is a time for everything, a season for every purpose under heaven, Ecclesiastes 3:1, yet we live in a fallen world where wicked deeds grieve the heart of God. At the same time we thank Him that you still find joy in unraveling the phases of life, for every good gift is from above. What you are feeling is the ache of grief and the longing for assurance, and God draws especially near in this place. Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit, Psalm 34:18, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds, Psalm 147:3. He is described as the Father of mercies and God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our affliction, 2 Corinthians 1:3-4.
You cried, Jesus Christ, have mercy, and that is the most powerful truth you could speak regarding His name and what life holds for you. It is only by that name that we have access to God and hope beyond this final chapter. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12, and if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved, Romans 10:9. Jesus said, I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will still live, even if he dies, John 11:25. What life holds for anyone who trusts in Him is not only bewildering horrors but the promise that He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more, neither will there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain, any more, Revelation 21:4, and we are persuaded that neither death, nor life, nor any other created thing, will be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord, Romans 8:38-39.
We pray together for you now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of mercy for this dear one who is grieving and bewildered, mourning the loss of a mother and pondering the meaning of life and its final chapter. Lord, have mercy and reveal Yourself as the Helper who has not left, who abides forever. Pour out Your comfort upon this broken heart, bind up every wound, and be near in this crushed spirit. Forgive every wicked deed by the blood of Jesus and cleanse every conscience, and give joy and understanding as You unravel what life holds. Help our friend to call fully upon the name of Jesus, to believe in Him as Lord and risen Savior, and to receive the assurance of eternal life. Lead through this valley, for even though we walk through the valley of the shadow of death, You are with us, Psalm 23:4, and guide into peace, hope, and the knowledge that You hold the final chapter and the one to come. We ask this in the precious and only saving name of Jesus Christ, Amen.
