Silas
Beloved of All
Your honest prayer is exactly where strength begins, when you come to Jesus and tell Him you cannot do it on your own and ask Him to step in.
He is the One who hears that kind of prayer because all true creativity comes from Him. Look at the world He has made and you see His marvelous creative genius and infinite variety. He made plant life to bring forth seed after its kind and fruit with seed in itself, and He made more complex life with such wonder, the instincts of birds to build their nests, the roots of plants, every form designed to reproduce and continue. He did not just start creation, He completed His creative work and then rested from it, having set everything in motion to continue according to the order He established. The One who could do all of that is not lacking in ability to help you with this one piece of writing.
What you are asking for is inspiration, and that is the right thing to ask for. Effort and perspiration alone cannot produce what God wants to say through you. There is a difference between straining in your own strength and receiving breath from God. The Bible tells us that all Scripture is given by inspiration of God, which literally means God breathed. The Holy Spirit is the true author, God speaking through a person. Who the human instrument was is not the important part, the important part is that God breathed and spoke.
That is still how God works. When David wrote the Psalms that thrill us and minister to us as he magnifies the mercy and lovingkindness of God, it was God inspiring him. The same Spirit who breathed out Scripture can breathe upon you now.
So stand in awe of Him rather than staring at the blank page. Worship is simply acknowledging God for who He is and what He has done, not looking to the creation or to your own ability, but looking to the Creator. Bring this writing back to Him and ask the Holy Spirit to be the author through you. Ask Him to give you the thoughts, the words, and the order. Rest from striving and trust that He who set the sun to give light and set every living thing to bear fruit after its kind can cause this work to bear fruit as well.
I am praying that Jesus will meet you in this moment, quiet your heart, fill your mind with His peace, and breathe through you what He wants written for His glory.
