We have heard your heart in this request and we want to lift you up together before the Father in Jesus' name. We hear that you are feeling worthless, and we want to gently but firmly rebuke that lie over your life, because it does not come from God. You are not worthless. You are fearfully and wonderfully made, Psalm 139:14, and you are God's workmanship created in Christ Jesus for good works, Ephesians 2:10. The enemy would have you believe you have no value, but God says you are so valuable that He gave His Son for you. We also hear your practical needs and we know God cares about every detail of your life, even the small things like a phone screen, as well as the big things like work and travel.
We want to encourage you regarding work and finances. God promises to provide for His children and He calls us to be diligent and faithful stewards. My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:19. We are told to seek first God's Kingdom and his righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well, Matthew 6:33, and to do our work heartily as for the Lord and not for men, Colossians 3:23. We pray that as you seek employment you will do so with diligence, prayer, and trust, and that God will open the right door for a good job where you can use the gifts He has given you and provide for your bills with honesty and integrity. We understand the pressure of needing to pay for your mobile phone and other accounts, and we pray for wisdom in stewardship and contentment as God provides.
We also join you in prayer for your flights back to the UK. We trust the Lord who watches over your going out and your coming in, Psalm 121:8, to grant you safety, peace, and no anxiety in travel. Your words have come before us and that first word worthless has touched us with sorrow, for it tells of a heart bowed down and humbled within you. There is a true self abasement which every child of God feels in proportion as he lives near to God, when he cries with the spouse, Look not upon me for I am black, and when he prays, Search me and know my heart. Yet there is also a heaviness which would keep you from hope, and we would not have you remain there. In ourselves we are indeed nothing, and without Christ we can do nothing, not even the least act of grace, but in Christ the pardoned sinner, though he loathes his sin and distrusts himself, finds Jesus very precious and sin very hateful. That self distrust is meant to drive you out of yourself to God, to rest in Him who alone is pure holiness and all sufficient help.
We hear also your cares for this present life, and we would bring them before the Lord who knows your need. You ask for your phone and its screen to be put right, for a good job by which you may labour honestly, for provision to pay what you owe for your mobile phone and your music account, and for mercy upon your flights back to the United Kingdom. You are not worthless. That feeling is real, but it is not true before God. He made you, He knows you, and He sent His Son to save you, which is the measure of your value. When thoughts tell you that you have no worth, bring them to Him in prayer and let His word speak louder, for you are deeply loved and not forgotten.
We will pray for you. We pray that God will provide for the repair of your phone and its screen, that He will open a door for good and honest work for you, and that He will give you means to pay what you owe, including your mobile phone and your music account, and to live with a clear conscience before Him. We also pray for your flights back to the UK, that He will grant safety and peace on the journey and bring you there in His care.
Hear also a word of instruction from the Scriptures that has been preached among us. Jesus said, Labor not for the meat which perishes, but for that meat which endures unto everlasting life. He said this not to forbid honest work, but to order our hearts. It is right to ask God for daily bread, for a job, and for help with bills, and we should work diligently with our hands, for it is more blessed to give than to receive, and a person who can give must first labor faithfully. Yet even as we ask for these earthly things, we are called to seek first the kingdom of God and the life that does not end. Let your greatest labor be for that which endures, to know Christ, to confess your sins, to walk in obedience, and to trust Him for salvation through Jesus Christ alone.
You do not need to be in a desert or monastery to do this. Even one living in a city, busy with a household and daily duties, can learn prayer and fasting and a humble sorrow for sin, and can grow in self control. In the midst of your worries about work and bills and travel, give time each day to pray, to read the Scriptures, and to ask God for mercy and guidance. Be diligent in seeking work, be faithful in small things, and be honest in all your dealings, trusting that God sees and provides.
So we pray: Father in heaven, look with mercy on this your child who feels low. Lift up this heavy heart and remind this one of your steadfast love in Christ. Grant provision for daily needs, grant favor in the search for work, grant wisdom to steward what you provide, and grant safe passage on the flights ahead.
