Worry and Dread

Anonymous

Beloved of All
I ask for your prayers that ### would stop worrying about the future of her life and her sibling’s. She constantly worries about what type of house she will live in 30 years from now. She constantly worries about whether her sister is working and not working, and discourages her from accepting certain jobs. She refuses to work because she can’t do it herself type of jobs she wants. Ask that God would bless her with more faith and positivity.

We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear sister who is bound by worry and dread. The Scriptures tell us in Matthew 6:34, "Therefore don’t be anxious for tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Each day’s own evil is sufficient." Yet we know how easily the enemy twists our thoughts, filling our minds with "what ifs" and fears that steal our peace and joy. This is not the life God intends for His children. In Philippians 4:6-7, we are commanded, "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."

We must also gently but firmly rebuke the spirit of control and pride that seems to be at work here. The concern for her sister’s employment has crossed into discouragement and interference, which is not her place. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." It is not for us to dictate the paths of others, nor to refuse opportunities because they do not meet our own standards. This is a form of pride, and we must repent of it. The Lord calls us to humility, to trust Him with our own lives and the lives of those we love.

We also see a heart that is struggling with contentment and diligence. The refusal to work because the jobs available do not meet her personal expectations is a dangerous place to be. In 2 Thessalonians 3:10-12, we read, "For even when we were with you, we commanded you this: 'If anyone will not work, neither let him eat.' For we hear of some who walk among you in rebellion, who don’t work at all, but are busybodies. Now those who are that way, we command and exhort in the Lord Jesus Christ, that with quietness they work, and eat their own bread." Work is not just about provision, it is about stewardship, discipline, and honoring God with our hands and our time. Even if a job is not our "dream job," it can be an opportunity to grow in character, to serve others, and to trust God for the future.

And let us not forget the most foundational truth: it is only through the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father. There is no peace, no faith, no hope apart from Him. Acts 4:12 declares, "There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved!" If this sister has not surrendered her life to Jesus, if she has not confessed Him as Lord and believed in her heart that God raised Him from the dead (Romans 10:9), then her worry and dread will only grow, for she is trying to carry burdens that only Christ can bear. We pray that her eyes would be opened to the truth of the Gospel, that Jesus came to set the captives free, to heal the brokenhearted, and to give us a hope and a future (Jeremiah 29:11).

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, lifting up this precious sister who is weighed down by worry, fear, and control. Lord, we ask that You would break the chains of anxiety that bind her. Fill her with Your peace, which surpasses all understanding, and guard her heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Help her to cast all her cares upon You, for You care for her (1 Peter 5:7). Teach her to trust You with her future, her sister’s future, and every detail of her life.

Father, we repent on her behalf for the pride that has crept into her heart, the belief that she knows what is best for herself and others. Forgive her for refusing to work in humility and for discouraging her sister instead of encouraging her. Soften her heart, Lord, and help her to see the value in every opportunity You provide. Give her a spirit of diligence and contentment, that she may honor You in all she does.

We also pray for her sister, Lord. Protect her from discouragement and guide her steps. Give her wisdom in her work and the courage to follow where You lead, even if it is not what others expect. Help this sister to release control and trust You with her sister’s life, just as she must trust You with her own.

Most of all, Lord, we ask that You would draw her to Yourself. If she does not know You as her Savior, reveal Your love and grace to her. Let her see that Jesus is the only One who can truly set her free from fear and give her a hope that does not disappoint (Romans 5:5). Fill her with faith, Lord, and replace her dread with Your perfect peace.

We declare over her life that she is more than a conqueror through Christ who loves her (Romans 8:37). We speak freedom from worry, joy in Your presence, and a renewed mind that is fixed on You. May she walk in the confidence of Your promises, knowing that You hold her future in Your hands.

In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Sister, we're really feeling for you right now. It sounds like you're carrying a heavy load with all this constant worry, and we want you to know we're here with you in prayer. It's tough when our minds won't stop racing about the future and the things we can't control.

We've been thinking about how Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:34, "Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own." It's so easy to get caught up in all the what-ifs, isn't it? But God doesn't want us to live that way. He wants us to trust Him with our future and our loved ones.

We also want to encourage you to let go of what others are doing - even your sister. You can't control her choices, and that's okay. God has a plan for her just like He does for you. Instead of focusing on what might or might not happen, try to take each day as it comes and find joy in the little things.

Let's pray together:

Heavenly Father, we lift up this sweet ### to You right now. Lord, we ask that You would take her heavy heart and fill it with Your peace. Help her to let go of the worries that have been weighing her down. Give her the strength to trust You with her future and with her sister's future. Help her to focus on today and not get lost in all the possibilities of tomorrow. Fill her with faith and remind her that You are in control. In Jesus' name we pray.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
