Worried

I had phone calls from my friends daughter and she been horrible mean and she ### and I keep fearing she going to cause a lot of trouble for me and my family and I keep praying that she see her actions and change

We hear your worry and we stand with you in prayer over these difficult phone calls and the fear you are carrying for yourself and your family. It is painful when someone is mean and hostile toward you, especially when it is the daughter of a friend, and it is understandable to feel anxious about what trouble she might try to cause.

We want to encourage you to bring this fear directly to the Lord and not let it take root in your heart. God does not want us to live in fear or dread of what others might do. For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control, 2 Timothy 1:7. We are reminded to cast all our worries on Him, because He cares for us, 1 Peter 5:7. We are told, Don’t be anxious for anything, but in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus, Philippians 4:6-7. God promises, Don’t you be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness, Isaiah 41:10. He is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble, Psalm 46:1.

We also join you in praying that this young woman will see her actions and that her heart will be changed. Jesus calls us to a higher way, even toward those who mistreat us. He said, Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, Matthew 5:44. We are also taught, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Don’t be overcome by evil, but overcome evil with good, Romans 12:18, Romans 12:21. This does not mean we allow ongoing abuse or harassment, but that we respond without returning evil for evil, we set wise and loving boundaries, we do not engage in heated arguments on the phone, we can choose not to answer calls that are abusive, keep a record if needed, and if appropriate seek the help of your friend or other wise counsel to address the situation in a calm and truthful way.

We notice your request mentions praying but does not mention the name of Jesus Christ. We want to lovingly share that it is only through Jesus that we have access to God and peace with Him. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12. It is by believing in Jesus, that He died for our sins and rose again, and confessing Him as Lord, that we are saved and our prayers are heard. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your trust fully in Jesus Christ for forgiveness and for daily help.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before You and lift up our dear one who is worried and fearful. Lord, we ask You to quiet the fear and anxiety and to fill this heart and home with Your perfect peace that guards heart and mind. We ask You to be a shield around this family, to protect them from any trouble or harm that might be intended against them, and to let no weapon formed against them prosper. We pray for this friend’s daughter, that You would convict her heart, open her eyes to see how mean and hurtful her actions have been, and lead her to repentance and change. Soften her heart, Lord, turn her from anger and malice, and bring her to know Your love and truth. Help our friend to walk in wisdom, to show grace and firm boundaries, to forgive as You have forgiven us, and to trust You rather than fear man. Let Your will be done in all these relationships and let You be glorified. In the mighty name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We encourage you to keep casting this burden on the Lord each time the fear rises, to stay in prayer and in the Word, and to rest in the assurance that God sees, He cares, and He is able to keep you and your family in His hands.

We hear how heavy this has felt, getting those harsh calls and then carrying the worry afterward about what might happen next for you and your family. It makes sense you would feel on edge and keep turning it over in your mind when someone has spoken to you that way.

We are glad you are praying for her to see how she is acting and to change. You can keep wishing good for her and praying for that change while also giving yourself space from the hurt. That decision to not hold onto revenge or bitterness is different from having warm feelings right away, and it is also different from having to stay closely connected while she is being mean. Both the decision and the feelings can take time, and keeping some healthy distance is okay.

One small step that often steadies things when calls feel threatening is to create a little structure around them. You might let unknown or upsetting calls go to voicemail, jot a brief note of the date, time and what was said, and let one trusted person in your life know what is happening so you are not carrying the worry alone. If you have a friendship with her mother, a calm, brief conversation with that friend when you feel safe to do so can also bring clarity.

Father, we bring this worry and this family to You. Guard them and give wisdom for each conversation and boundary. Quiet the fear that keeps rehearsing trouble, and work in this young woman's heart to see her actions clearly. Lead all involved toward what is right and peaceful. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your troubled heart has been heard, and your burden for your family has been brought before the Lord with care and prayer.

It is a painful thing to receive hard and unkind words, and to carry a fear of what trouble may follow. The Scripture speaks to such fear when it says, Fear not, be strong. The Lord knows your situation, He sees the unkindness that has wounded you, and He keeps your family in His own hand. You may cast all your anxiety upon Him, for He cares for you, and you may rest in the promise that no trouble can come beyond what His wisdom and love will order for good to those who trust Him.

We have prayed with you that this young woman may be brought to see her actions as God sees them. There is forgiveness with God, that He may be feared, and that forgiveness is proclaimed freely for Christ's sake. It is not limited to a certain sort or measure of sin, but is broad and full, provided through the blood of Jesus who died, the Just for the unjust, to bring us to God. As you have prayed for her to be changed, so we join you in asking the Lord to work repentance in her heart, to soften what is hard, and to turn her from harshness to a spirit of kindness and truth. Pray for her still, and do so as one who has received mercy, desiring that she also may know the mercy that leads to holy fear and love of God.

And as you wait upon the Lord, seek grace to forgive as you have been forgiven. Our God forgives freely and fully for Christ's sake, not for our merit, and He calls His people to show that same forgiving spirit. This does not mean to approve what is wrong, but to leave judgment in the hands of the righteous Judge, to not repay evil for evil, and to commend both yourself and this young woman to Him who can keep you in perfect peace.

May the Lord quiet your fear, guard your household, and keep you strong in faith. May He give you wisdom in any further dealings, words seasoned with grace, and a heart that rests in His protection. And may He, in His mercy, grant to this daughter of your friend a true sight of herself and a turning to Christ, in whom alone there is forgiveness now and hope for a changed life.

We will continue to pray that the Lord will be your confidence and your strength, and that you will know His peace which passes all understanding, through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your worry for your family and your prayer that this young woman would see her actions clearly are heard, and it is right to bring both before the Lord.

It is understandable to feel fear when someone acts with meanness and threatens trouble, but fear of what others might do should not rule your heart. God is your protector and He sees all that is happening. He does not always deliver us at once, but teaches us to bear what comes with patience and courage, trusting that He will come to us in His perfect timing, even as He came to His disciples on the sea in the darkest watch of the night. Remember that no prison and no power of man can stand against Him, and those who trust in Him can find peace even when others intend harm.

Continue to pray as you are praying, that she would be given eyes to see what she has done and a heart to change. That is a prayer shaped by love. Scripture calls us to pray for those who mistreat us and to keep a gentle and forgiving spirit, not because the wrong does not matter, but because we ourselves have received great forgiveness from God and are being trained by Him to show that same mercy. Loving your neighbor in this way does not mean you must accept ongoing abuse or leave your family unprotected. It is wise to set clear boundaries around phone calls and contact, to seek counsel from trusted and mature believers around you, and to guard your home with calm and firm limits while still praying for her good.

I join you in prayer now.

Father in heaven, I lift up this dear one and her family to You. Calm their fear and give them Your peace that guards heart and mind in Christ Jesus. Place a hedge of protection around their home and let no plan for harm succeed. Work in the heart of this young woman, open her eyes to see her actions, bring her to repentance, and lead her to walk in kindness and truth. Help this family to respond with wisdom, gentleness, and strength, and to trust You more than they fear man. Give them rest as they wait on You, knowing that You are near and that You will act for good. In the name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and Savior, amen.
