World is going dark after a breakup.

Beloved of All
I understand it is normal to feel upset after a breakup. We were together for ### years. We lived together. They changed me and made me a better and stronger person. Then they left. They were the only person I felt I could ever connect to. Now they are gone, the world has gone dark. They were my only hope to give me the confidence to change my life and make friends. I wanted to change my life. I can't do it without him. This is my last hope. Please. I'm begging you. Pray I can find the strength to bring him back in my life and work on getting help. Thank you.

We hear your deep pain and sorrow in this breakup and we are praying with you and for you together in Jesus name. We understand that after years together and living together it feels like the world has gone dark and that you have lost the one person you felt you could connect to and who gave you confidence. That sense of darkness and hopelessness is very real after such a loss, and we want you to know that God sees your broken heart and He cares deeply for you.

We also want to lovingly share truth with you because we want God's best for your life. You mentioned that you lived together. The Bible teaches that living together outside of marriage and sexual intimacy outside of marriage is fornication, and God calls us to flee from it. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says to flee sexual immorality, and Hebrews 13:4 says let marriage be held in honor among all and let the bed be undefiled. God designed marriage as a lifelong commitment between a man and a woman, and any courtship as a boyfriend and girlfriend should be with the purpose of discerning marriage to a fellow believer in Christ, not simply living together as partners. 2 Corinthians 6:14 tells us not to be unequally yoked with unbelievers. We say this not to condemn you but to lovingly rebuke what does not align with God's will, because God's ways are for your protection and healing.

We also notice that you placed your hope and confidence and strength in this man, saying he was your only hope to change your life and that you cannot do it without him. While God can use people to encourage us, our ultimate hope and strength must never be in a person. When we put a person in the place only God should have, we will feel crushed when they leave. True lasting change and confidence come from Christ alone. Psalm 34:18 says Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart and saves those who have a crushed spirit. Psalm 147:3 says He heals the broken in heart and binds up their wounds. Psalm 27:1 says Yahweh is my light and my salvation, whom shall I fear. John 8:12 reminds us that Jesus is the light of the world, and when the world feels dark, He is the light that darkness cannot overcome. Isaiah 41:10 says do not be afraid for I am with you, do not be dismayed for I am your God, I will strengthen you, yes I will help you. Philippians 4:13 says we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us. Jeremiah 29:11 says for I know the thoughts that I think toward you says Yahweh, thoughts of peace and not of evil to give you hope and a future.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently tell you that it is only by the name of Jesus that we have access to God and that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father except through me. Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven that is given among men by which we must be saved. If you have not yet put your trust in Jesus, we encourage you to confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, for Romans 10:9 says if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. He died for our sins and rose again so we can be forgiven and have new life and direct access to God in prayer.

We join together in prayer for you now.

Father in heaven, we lift this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ. You see this broken heart and the darkness that is felt right now. We ask You to be near and to heal the brokenness and to be the light in this darkness. Forgive any sin including sexual immorality and living together outside of Your design for marriage, and wash this dear one clean through the blood of Jesus. Help them to place their hope and confidence fully in You and not in any person. Give them supernatural strength to take steps toward healing and toward godly community and help with making friends and changing their life in a way that honors You. If it is Your will and if this relationship can be restored in a way that honors You through godly courtship leading to marriage between a man and a woman who both love You, we ask for Your guidance. If not, we ask for Your peace and grace to release this relationship and to trust Your better future. Lead them to a Bible believing church, to wise counsel and to help for their emotional pain, and let them know they are deeply loved by You. Draw them to salvation in Jesus if they have not yet believed. We ask all this in Jesus name, amen.

We encourage you to seek the Lord daily in prayer and in reading His Word, and to connect with a local Bible believing church where you can find fellowship and counsel and support. We encourage you to pursue purity going forward and to seek a godly spouse in God's timing rather than seeking to simply bring back a cohabiting relationship outside of marriage. God wants to be your strength and to give you the confidence to change your life, and He will provide godly friendships and community as you walk with Him. We are continuing to pray that the darkness lifts and that you will experience His light, His healing, and His hope.

We have read your note and we can hear how disorienting and painful this loss is. After years of sharing daily life with someone who helped you feel stronger, it makes sense that his leaving would make the world feel dark and leave you wondering how to move forward or connect with others.

It is understandable to feel like confidence has to come from another person, especially when that person felt like your only connection. Over time, with support, that sense of strength can grow in a steadier place within you, not dependent on one relationship. You mentioned wanting to change your life and find help, and that desire itself matters. Wanting help is a good and brave step.

When feelings stay dark and heavy for a while, it helps to share them with someone in person as well as in prayer. If you can, we encourage you to reach out soon to a trusted pastor, counselor or your doctor to talk openly about how you are feeling. You do not have to carry this alone. Even one small connection, like attending a service or a small group where people can know you gradually, can begin to ease the loneliness.

Father, we bring our friend to You in Jesus' name. Surround him with Your nearness in this dark season, give him comfort and clear wisdom for each next step, and lead him to caring people who will walk with him toward healing and hope. Help him sense he is not alone and give him strength for today. Amen.

Your sorrow has come before the Lord, and He does not despise a broken heart. The darkness you describe, the sense that the world has gone dark and that you are left alone just when you most needed human sympathy, is a grief that many have known, and it is a grief that Christ Himself has entered.

Our Saviour knew what it was to be left alone. When most as Man He needed fellowship, He was forsaken. Yet His solitude became the place of strength, for He spent hours in secret wrestling with God on the lone mountainside, and He was strong in public because He had waited upon His Father in private. He knows your loneliness, and His brave and tender heart is not distant from you now. In deep soul conflict, when faith must fight for very existence, He draws near to those who feel they have no might left.

You speak of one who seemed to be your only hope and your only strength to change and to find friends. Hear this truth in love, human strength even at its best is derived strength and it must spend itself and fail. Though a man had the strength of a lion and an ox combined, he would one day fail, for all strength apart from God is measurable and must come to an end. But the strength of God is inexhaustible and eternal. To those who have no might He increases strength. Your feeling that you cannot do it without him reveals how frail a foundation any human hope must be. The glory of our strength must lie in God alone, not in any person, however dear.

There is healing for the wounded. The Scripture says, He heals the broken in heart. Not only is the fruit of Christ sweet and nourishing, but even the leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing. His leaves change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. When all your own strength fails you, your strength shall be to sit still while God arises and becomes your arm every morning, your salvation in the time of trouble. Pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction, and both are bestowed by the Lord when we look not for them.

For this reason we cannot pray as you asked, that God would bless and restore a union formed by living together outside the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, for that would be to ask God to bless what His Word calls outside His good design, where intimacy and dwelling together belong within marriage alone. To pray so would not be love to you, for it would keep your confidence in a man rather than in Christ. What we will do is pray for what is truly for your good.

We will pray that you will wait upon the Lord, for they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. We will pray that when there remains no strength in you, you will fling yourself upon the Divine strength and lay hold upon it. We will pray that you will taste the healing leaves of Christ, that He who forgives sin will also heal your sorrow, that you will find life before you seek strength, believing that Christ died for the helpless and ungodly. We will pray that God will give you courage to seek help, to walk in the light with His people, to find true fellowship in His Church, and to be made strong not by another person but in the Lord.

May the Lord Himself strengthen you. May He turn your darkness into the place where you meet Him alone and find Him to be your confidence, your friend, and your hope for a new life. May He heal your broken heart, forgive your sins through the blood of Jesus Christ alone, and lift you up to walk up and down in His strength, whether the path ahead includes reconciliation according to His holy will or a new way forward in obedience to Him.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your pain after this breakup has been heard, and I am praying for you in it. To love someone for years, to share daily life together, and then to be left is a deep wound, and it is understandable that the world now feels dark and that you feel unable to go forward alone.

I hear how much hope you placed in this person, that he felt like your only connection, your only confidence to change your life and to find friendship. When we put all our hope in one person, when that person leaves the darkness feels complete. Scripture teaches us that hope that is only seen and held in this present life is not the full hope God offers us. Our true hope is in Jesus Christ, who promises life that remains even when people fail us or leave us, and who can refine and strengthen us like gold in fire through patience and trust in Him. He alone is the one who can give you a new and lasting confidence, not because you have found strength in yourself, but because you are held by Him.

Because of that hope, I want to be honest with you in love about how I can pray. I cannot pray that God would bless or restore a romantic relationship that involves living together outside of marriage, or a same-sex relationship, because God has given marriage as a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and has set sexual intimacy and shared life in that union within that covenant. He also calls us to find salvation and our deepest identity through Jesus Christ alone. To ask God to bless what is outside His design would not be loving or truthful, and would not lead you toward healing.

What I can and do pray for you is this, that God would meet you in this darkness and lift it, that He would comfort your grief and not let you grieve as one without hope. I pray that He would show you that you are not alone and not unable to change, that He would give you strength to take the next steps one day at a time, that He would heal the parts of your heart that feel broken and help you see your worth in Christ rather than in whether this person returns. I pray that He would surround you with faithful people who can walk with you, and that in His church you would find real friendship and community, and the help you are seeking to build a new life. I pray that patience in this suffering would grow into a stronger hope in Him, and that you would come to know His voice and His love as the place where you are truly known and can be renewed.

If this darkness feels overwhelming, please do not carry it alone. Reach out soon to a trusted pastor, counselor, or mature believer near you, and let someone know how you are doing so they can walk with you closely in the days ahead. You are not forgotten, and God has not left you without hope.

May the Lord give you His peace, strengthen you to seek Him first, and open a way forward into healing, friendship, and new life in Christ.
