Work

Your prayer has been heard and I join my voice with yours before the Lord who sees your need.

I understand the weight of this struggle, to watch work you love grow scarce and to feel the loss that new tools have brought. The Lord knows what you love and the skill He has placed in your hands, and He is not unaware of your daily need. Scripture reminds us that He sometimes allows our provisions to be spent, so that having first been in want we might more eagerly receive His work and learn to depend more fully on Him. This season of waiting can become a place where trust is deepened.

I pray for you now. Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ your Son, hear this cry for provision. You know this need for work and the desire to use well the gifts You have given. I ask that You open doors according to Your wisdom and goodness, and that You give guidance concerning the two positions that have been sought. If it is Your will, grant favor with those who are hiring and provide steady work for daily bread. If another path is better, make that clear and lead to work that sustains and honors You. Take away anxious fear and establish this heart in quiet confidence in Your care, for You free Your people from anxiety and call them to trust You even when they do not see the way forward.

Continue to labor faithfully with what is in your hand today, doing all work honestly and diligently as unto the Lord. Make provision for the needs of the body for health and strength, not for excess or vanity, and spend your chief industry on the care of spiritual things, seeking first the kingdom of God. The present life passes quickly, but faithfulness in small things and trust in Christ remains. Whether abundance or want, keep your hope fixed on Him who will never leave you.

May the Lord grant you peace while you wait, wisdom in every application and conversation, and provision in His perfect time. May He use even this difficulty to draw you closer to Christ and to show His faithful love. Amen.

Your prayer for work in this difficult season is heard, and your honesty about the struggle is important to bring before the Lord. Losing work to changes in technology and waiting to hear back after applying for positions you truly care about can feel heavy and uncertain, and it is right to ask God to open doors for provision.

Scripture shows that God is always doing two kinds of work at once. He is working in you and He wants to work through you. The work in you comes first. Often He shapes character the way a potter shapes clay, removing rough edges and forming something useful for His purposes. That shaping is not always comfortable and we do not always understand it in the moment, but we are told to count it joy when we face hard testings, because God is preparing us for what He has planned to do through us. He has a purpose for your life and gifts, and He who has begun a good work in you will be faithful to complete it.

God is also the one who gives wisdom and skill for work. When He called people to build the sanctuary, He filled them with understanding for every kind of craftsmanship and stirred their hearts so they came willingly to the task. That same principle remains. God stirs willing hearts and gives ability to do good work. Like those who rebuilt the wall with a mind to work, each returning to his own part despite opposition and discouragement, you are called to continue faithfully with diligence in what is before you. Scripture is clear that if a person is able to work, he should work quietly and provide for his own needs, not giving in to idleness. That means continuing to use the gifts God has given you, doing the next honest work that is available, and trusting God to lead you step by step, even if the next step is not yet the ideal position you hope for.

It is also important to leave room for God to work in ways you cannot predict. Under the old law God made provision for the cleansing of a leper, a disease thought incurable, leaving room for a miracle that only He could do. In a similar way, when a city was starving, God had already provided abundance outside its walls before anyone knew it. We should not put God in a box or assume He can only provide through the usual channels. Your waiting is part of this. Impatience often hinders what God is doing, but if you wait on Him, He works things out in His time and way. Unbelief can keep us from receiving what He has provided, so venture forward in faith, praying and acting, trusting that He is able to open doors no man can open, whether through those two positions you mentioned or through another provision you have not yet seen.

Above all, rest in the finished work of Jesus Christ for your salvation. Just as God finished the work of creation and rested, Jesus finished the work of redemption on the cross. Salvation is not by our works or goodness, but by grace through faith in Him. To do the work of God is to believe on the One He has sent. When you rest in that finished work, you can bring your daily needs to Him with confidence, not to earn His favor but because you already have it in Christ.

Let us pray together. Father, thank You for Your grace that saves us through Jesus and for Your Spirit who draws us and works in us. Work in this heart during this time of testing, shaping and strengthening for Your glory. Grant wisdom and skill for every good work, stir willing hearts, and open the doors You desire to open. Provide for daily needs, guide the decisions of those who review these applications, and give peace while waiting on Your timing. Help there to be trust without unbelief, diligence without anxiety, and rest in the finished work of Christ. In Jesus name, Amen.
