Your honest cry concerning daily bread and daily work has been heard, and it is right and good that you have poured it out before the Lord.
There is an indoor work to be done within your own heart even while your hands seek outward work. As David said, Bless the Lord, O my soul, and all that is within me, bless His holy name. Anxiety, though it feels natural when provision grows thin and doors seem closed, will itself unfit you to meet the difficulty. To tell your trouble only to yourself brings no good, but to tell it to your Father in heaven is wisdom. Cast your care upon Him, for He cares for you, and though your own work must ever be a cause of anxiety, His work is the ground of our confidence and peace.
The Scriptures teach us that the work of Christ for us and the work of the Spirit in us do not exempt us from labour, nor do they supersede human effort, but rather they excite it. Where the Spirit works, He makes men work. The apostle said, whereunto I also labour, striving. Therefore continue in faithful, diligent, personal labour. Do what your hand finds to do with conscientious care, as foundation work that the Lord sees though no man may notice. God will try every man's work, and He is pleased with honest work done in truth and for His glory.
Remember also the word, I must work the works of Him that sent Me while it is day, for the night comes when no man can work. Your particular department of work, though entrusted to you and to be done well, is not the hinge upon which the whole universe turns. The Lord can afford to wait with His work, but we are to be faithful today, labouring heartily as unto Him, and trusting Him with the increase.
So we bring your petition before the throne of grace, that the Lord would establish the work of your hands. We pray that He who knows what you love and what gifts He has given you would open doors that no man can shut, and close those which are not for your good. We ask His mercy upon the two positions for which you have applied, that if it be according to His wise and loving will, He would grant you favour in the eyes of those who decide, and provide for your needs according to His riches in Christ Jesus. And if He has other provision appointed, that He would make it plain and lead you to it.
May the Lord keep you from despondency and keep you looking to the finished work of Christ, which alone is your righteousness and peace, while you wait for Him to establish the labour of your hands. Be steadfast, continue in prayer, continue in work, and leave the outcome with Him who does all things well.
We join our faith with yours and pray, O Lord, let Your work appear unto Your servant, and establish the work of his hands, yea, establish the work of his hands, for Jesus sake. Amen.
