Disciple of Prayer
I’m an artist, In two weeks there is a gig I have to do. It gives me so much anx iety, I don’t want to do it. I am devastated. Please pray the lord may cancel this gig that will dest roy my career. In Jesus name amen

We hear your distress, and we stand with you in prayer, lifting this heavy burden to the Lord. The anxiety you feel is real, and we acknowledge how overwhelming this situation must be for you. We want to encourage you first with the truth that God sees your struggle and cares deeply for you. The Bible tells us in 1 Peter 5:7, "Casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you." You are not alone in this, and we believe God is with you, even in this moment of fear and uncertainty.

We also want to gently remind you that God’s plans for you are good, and He holds your future in His hands. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." While it may feel like this gig could destroy your career, we trust that God is able to work all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). It may be that He is allowing this challenge to strengthen your faith, refine your calling, or redirect your path in ways you cannot yet see.

However, we must also address the request for the Lord to "cancel this gig" with a spirit of discernment. While it is natural to want relief from anxiety, we must be careful not to ask God to remove us from every difficult situation, as He often uses trials to grow our faith and dependence on Him. James 1:2-4 says, "Count it all joy, my brothers, when you fall into various temptations, knowing that the testing of your faith produces endurance. Let endurance have its perfect work, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing." Instead of praying for the gig to be canceled, we encourage you to pray for God’s strength, peace, and wisdom to navigate this challenge in a way that honors Him and aligns with His will for your life and career.

We also want to remind you that your identity and worth are not found in your career or the opinions of others, but in Christ alone. As an artist, you have a unique gift and calling, and God has entrusted you with this talent to glorify Him. Colossians 3:23-24 says, "And whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord, and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the reward of the inheritance; for you serve the Lord Christ." Whether this gig succeeds or fails in the world’s eyes, your ultimate purpose is to serve and honor God with your gifts.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up our brother/sister who is feeling overwhelmed by anxiety and fear about this upcoming gig. Lord, we ask that You would calm their heart and fill them with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Help them to trust in You, knowing that You are in control of every detail of their life and career. Father, we pray that You would grant them strength and courage to face this challenge, and that You would use this situation for Your glory and their growth in faith.

Lord, if it is Your will for this gig to proceed, we ask that You would go before them and prepare the way. Give them confidence in the gifts You have given them, and help them to perform in a way that honors You. If it is Your will for this opportunity to be removed, we pray that You would make that clear and provide a path forward that aligns with Your purposes. Either way, we trust in Your goodness and sovereignty.

Father, we also pray that You would remind them of their true identity in Christ. Help them to see that their worth is not defined by their career or the approval of others, but by Your unconditional love for them. May they find their security and purpose in You alone.

We ask all these things in the mighty name of Jesus, who has overcome the world and promised to never leave us nor forsake us. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to spend time in God’s Word, seeking His face and His will for your life. Meditate on scriptures that speak to God’s faithfulness, such as Psalm 56:3, "When I am afraid, I will put my trust in you." Surround yourself with fellow believers who can pray with you and encourage you. And remember, God is not surprised by this situation, He is already at work, and He will never abandon you. Keep your eyes on Him, and trust that He will lead you step by step.

We hear the deep distress in your words, the kind of dread that makes a creative calling feel like a crushing weight. It's completely normal to want the pressure to vanish, and we don’t minimize that. Still, rather than asking for the gig to be canceled, we join you in praying for something even better: that God meets you right in the middle of that anxiety and carries you through it. What feels like a threat to your career might also become a touchstone of His faithfulness when you look back.

For now, consider a practical step: break your preparation into small, manageable tasks so this moment doesn’t loom as a single terrifying mountain. And share the weight, let a trusted friend, pastor, or a wise counselor walk alongside you. They can help you untangle the fear and build tools not just for this gig, but for the ones ahead. You don’t have to face it alone.

Lord Jesus, we hold this artist before You. Quiet their racing thoughts and steady their spirit with Your peace. Help them to prepare with clarity, and when the day arrives, give them the quiet confidence that You are present, no matter the outcome. Guard their heart so that fear does not steal the joy of the gift You’ve given them. May this very experience become a milestone of Your sustaining grace. We entrust their career, their talent, and their future completely to You. Amen.

That prayer is born of terror, not of faith, and I must be plain with you. To ask the Lord to cancel what He has set before you is to cry out for escape from the very training ground where He means to display His strength. It is the voice of Jacob fearing Esau without cause, for what can a mere creature do to the child of the King of kings? Your anxiety itself proves the snare you are in, for the fear of men brings a weakness that unfits you for the work. That very dread, which you hope to flee by cancellation, will only bind you tighter if you yield to it. The precept is absolute: "Fear not. Be not dismayed." It is not a suggestion for calmer days; it is a command for this very hour, and to persist in fear is disobedience. He who laid His right hand upon John and said, "Fear not; I am the First and the Last," is the same Christ who holds the keys of death and of every circumstance that threatens you. Will you not trust Him with a mere public duty when He has conquered the grave for you?

Cast all this care upon Him, for He cares for you. Do not ask to have the path leveled; ask for the sure-footedness that comes from fixing your eyes on Jesus. The promise is not that the gig will vanish, but that He will help you, and that promised strength is the whip with which you must drive out this trembling. If your career is to be destroyed, then let it be destroyed while you are faithfully doing your duty, not while you are cowering in a corner. But I put it to you: is the Almighty’s arm palsied that He cannot sustain a trembling artist for two hours? You have not been given a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind. Rise up, then, and play the man. Go to that work with your fear confessed as sin, lean wholly upon the promise, "I will help you," and watch Him turn your devastation into a testimony of His faithfulness.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Psalm 37:4: Delight yourself in the Lord, And He shall give you the desires of your heart.
Matthew 6:33: But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

You pray for the Lord to cancel this gig, but you are asking Him to remove what may be a test of your faith and a door for His grace. The anxiety that devastates you is the real destroyer, far more than any performance could be. Do you not know that the wicked live in perpetual fear, trembling and pale, while the one conscious of no evil has confidence? This terror is a scourge of your own making, a slavery to opinion and earthly success. The beauty that perishes, the applause of a crowd, is not worthy of such distress. It brings anxiety greater than any pleasure.

Why do you cling to weak and beggarly rudiments, treating your career as if it were your god? The Lord frees His own from anxiety, establishing them in thorough security and liberty. Instead of begging for the gig to vanish, cry out for mercy: that He would calm your soul and grant you strength to walk through this trial. The Spirit foretells things to come so that we meet nothing without warning; if this gig truly threatened your ruin, He would have made a way of escape. But perhaps He intends to show His power in your weakness.

Cast your care upon Him. Why do you look upon your own art with such suspicion, as if it were an enemy? Let your prayer be, “Thy will be done,” and trust that He who redeemed you from the bitter slavery of fear will bring you forth. Do not ask to be delivered from every challenge, but to be delivered from the evil of anxiety itself. Then, whether the gig remains or is taken, you will have your soul in peace, and that is no small gain.

Anxiety over an upcoming event can feel overwhelming, as if the only relief would be for God to take it away entirely. But I want to gently urge you to consider what lies beneath that prayer. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. That reverential awe of God, hating what He hates, loving what He loves, desiring to please Him above all, is the sum of true knowledge. When that kind of holy fear fills our hearts, it reorders every other fear. The dread of a gig, a performance, or what others might think shrinks in the presence of a God so mighty and so merciful.

Worldly thinking elevates career success as the ultimate prize, but Scripture shows us a different treasure. Better is a little with the fear of the Lord than great treasure with trouble. If this gig feels like it could destroy your career, step back and ask: Whose approval are you laboring for? Before honor comes humility. When our ways please the Lord, He even makes our enemies to be at peace with us. The goal is not to avoid every possible failure, but to walk humbly before Him, entrusting the outcome to His hands.

I know the temptation is to pray for the circumstance to vanish, but God often uses our greatest anxieties to teach us to lean on Him. Think of a child learning to walk. A wise parent does not hover in panic at every stumble, or the child will absorb that fear and give up. Instead, the parent says, “That was great! You took five steps! Let’s try again.” Our Father is teaching you to walk in faith, not in the paralysis of earthly fear. The chemicals released by anxiety and dread can wear you down, but the fear of the Lord tends to life, bringing health and quiet confidence. In that holy fear there is strong confidence; it becomes a fountain of life to depart from the snares of death.

This gig, as daunting as it seems, can be an offering to God. Do your best and commit the rest. Prepare diligently, honor the talents He gave you, and then release the results to Him. Sometimes the very moments when we feel like miserable failures are when God chooses to do something extraordinary, simply to show that the power is His. Whether the world labels that gig a success or a disaster, the real question is: Did you walk in reverence and humility before your King? That is where true riches, honor, and life are found.

Let’s turn the prayer in a different direction. Instead of asking God to cancel the opportunity, ask Him to fill you with the fear of the Lord that casts out destructive anxiety. Ask for the grace to do your work heartily, as unto Him, and to rest in His sovereign care. He works in you both to will and to do His good pleasure. The gig may be a stepping stone, a hidden blessing, or a humbling lesson, all are safe in His hands. You belong to Him, not to a career. Walk in that freedom.
