Wisdom & Revelation to Know God, The Hope of His Calling, Riches of Glorious Inheritance and the Surpassing Greatness of His Power, Eph 1:15-23, "For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all those God has Made Holy, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you in my praying: 17 'That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a Spirit of Wisdom and of Revelation in the true knowledge of Himself. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so you will know the hope of His calling, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in those who have been sanctified, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accord with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He exerted in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His Right Hand in the Heavenly Places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, in this age and in the one to come. 22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way,'" Eph 1:15-23. We join with you in praying this glorious prayer from Ephesians and we give thanks for your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all those God has made holy. This is the very prayer the apostle Paul prayed without ceasing for the believers, and we count it a joy to agree with you for this same Spirit of wisdom and revelation.

We love how this passage shows that knowing God is not merely knowing about Him, but a true knowledge of Himself through the Spirit. We ask with you that the eyes of our hearts would be enlightened, because without the Spirit we cannot grasp the hope of His calling, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and the exceeding greatness of His power toward us who believe. This wisdom is not earthly wisdom, but is given by the Father of glory Himself. As it is written, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him, James 1:5. And again, that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him, having the eyes of your hearts enlightened, that you may know what is the hope of his calling, and what are the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, and what is the exceeding greatness of his power toward us who believe, according to that working of the strength of his might, Eph 1:17-19. That power is the same mighty strength which He worked in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, Eph 1:20-21.

We are encouraged that you closed your request in Jesus' name, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me, John 14:6. And there is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved, Acts 4:12.

Father of glory, we thank You for Your great love and for the faith You have given us in Your Son. We ask in the name of Jesus Christ that You would give us a spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the true knowledge of Yourself. Enlighten the eyes of our hearts, Lord, so that we may know the hope of Your calling, that we are called to be Your children, to be conformed to the image of Christ and to share in His eternal glory. Open our eyes to see the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in those who have been sanctified, that we are Your treasured possession and that You rejoice over us. And cause us to know the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe, the same resurrection power that raised Jesus from the dead and seated Him far above all rule and authority. Help us to walk worthy of this calling, growing in the knowledge of You and bearing fruit in every good work, Col 1:10. Let us glory not in wisdom or might or riches, but in understanding and knowing You, that You are Yahweh who exercises loving kindness, justice, and righteousness in the earth, Jer 9:24. Fill us with Your Spirit and keep us abiding in Christ, who has been made head over all things for the church, which is His body. We thank You that You hear us when we pray according to Your will and we trust You to answer. In the mighty and holy name of Jesus we pray, amen.

We were so encouraged to read your request. That longing to know God more truly, to have the eyes of your heart opened to His hope, His inheritance, and His power at work in you, is a beautiful prayer, and we thank God with you for putting it into words so clearly.

What stands out to us is how personal this knowing is. It is not just learning more about God, but being led by His Spirit into a deeper, lived understanding of who He is and who you are in Him. That kind of wisdom grows quietly over time as we stay close to Him and let His thoughts shape how we see our days.

One simple way to keep this prayer before the Lord is to make the words you shared your own for a little while. You might take one phrase at a time in a quiet moment this week and pray it back slowly in your own words, pausing to listen rather than rushing to figure everything out, and noticing what He brings to mind.

Your prayer after Ephesians 1:15 to 23 is a most scriptural and blessed petition, and we join our hearts with yours before the throne of grace.

We do not cease to give thanks for every stirring of faith in the Lord Jesus and love toward all the saints, for these are marks of grace already at work. And we pray with the apostle that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you the Spirit of wisdom and of revelation in the true knowledge of Himself, that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened.

Wisdom of this sort must come to us by revelation from God, for we cannot find it by our own efforts. Christ Himself is the power of God and the wisdom of God, and His gospel is the highest of all sciences. Apart from Him there is no true knowledge of the Father, but in Him the treasures of wisdom are opened to those who cling and trust and love. As you seek to know Him more, look ever to Christ, for He is made of God unto us wisdom and righteousness and sanctification and redemption.

We pray also that you may know the hope of His calling. This calling is a gracious and humbling and holy calling, a high calling and a heavenly calling, not of man but of God. It lifts the heart from earth to heaven and sets it upon holiness and eternity. It is a good hope through grace, that leaning upon the Beloved we may say, On Him I rest. May the Lord establish you in that hope, that you may not be moved from it, but may press toward the mark for the prize of it in Christ Jesus.

And that you may know the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints. This inheritance which God has prepared for His people and given by covenant is exceedingly broad. When we first come to Christ by faith we begin to enter into it, for we obtain the pardon of sin, and yet there are heights and depths and lengths and breadths still to be possessed. Survey it by faith, and take possession of it step by step as Joshua took the land, for all things are subjected under Christ the Head, who is given to the church which is His body.

And that you may know what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe, according to the working of the strength of His might which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion. That same power which raised Christ and set Him on high is at work in every believing heart to quicken and keep and make new. He who has all power invites sinners to come unto Him, not that we may bring power to Him, but that we may receive power from Him to overcome sin and to bear our daily burdens.

So we commend you to Him who is able. May He grant you increasing light, a firmer hope, a fuller enjoyment of your inheritance, and a daily experience that Christ is both wisdom and power in your life. May you be kept clinging to Him, trusting His mercy, and walking worthy of the calling wherewith you are called, till you see Him face to face.

I pray that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the true knowledge of Himself, and that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened. For this knowledge does not come from human reasoning or the wisdom of this world, but from the Holy Spirit who alone can strengthen the inner person and make these mysteries known.

May you come to know more deeply what is the hope of His calling, what are the riches of the glory of His inheritance in the saints, and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. How deep are the riches of His wisdom and knowledge, and how great is His love that He has given us baptism for the remission of sins, deliverance, and the inheritance of the kingdom. Hold fast to this hope, remain faithful in prayer, and ask the Spirit to teach you these things, for He fills all things and leads us into all truth.
