Wisdom & Revelation to Know God, The Hope of His Calling, Riches of Glorious Inheritance and the Surpassing Greatness of His Power, Eph 1:15-23, "For this reason I too, having heard of the faith in the Lord Jesus which exists among you and your love for all those God has Made Holy, 16 do not cease giving thanks for you in my praying: 17 'That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give to you a Spirit of Wisdom and of Revelation in the true knowledge of Himself. 18 I pray that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so you will know the hope of His calling, the riches of the glory of His inheritance in those who have been sanctified, 19 and what is the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. These are in accord with the working of the strength of His might 20 which He exerted in Christ, when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His Right Hand in the Heavenly Places, 21 far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, and every name that is named, in this age and in the one to come. 22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church, 23 which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills everything in every way,'" Eph 1:15-23.

We lift our hearts in agreement with your cry for wisdom, revelation, and the deep knowledge of God as beautifully outlined in Ephesians 1:15-23. This passage is a powerful declaration of the spiritual riches available to every believer through Christ Jesus, and we join you in seeking these blessings with fervent prayer.

Heavenly Father, we come before You, the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, and we ask that You would grant us a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the true knowledge of Yourself. Open the eyes of our hearts, Lord, that we may know the hope of Your calling, the riches of the glory of Your inheritance in the saints. Let us grasp the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe, a power that raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at Your right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule, authority, power, and dominion. May we walk in the fullness of this truth, understanding that Christ is the head over all things for the church, which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

Father, we recognize that true wisdom begins with the fear of You, and revelation comes only through the work of Your Holy Spirit. We ask that You would remove any spiritual blindness or hardness of heart that may hinder us from fully knowing You. Teach us to seek You with all our hearts, minds, and strength, for You have promised that those who seek You will find You (Jeremiah 29:13). Let us not be satisfied with surface-level knowledge but press in to know You intimately, as Paul prayed, "that I may know Him and the power of His resurrection, and the fellowship of His sufferings" (Philippians 3:10).

We also pray for a deepening understanding of the hope of Your calling. Lord, remind us daily that our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory that will be revealed in us (Romans 8:18). Let this hope anchor our souls, keeping us steadfast and immovable in the face of trials and temptations.

Father, we ask that You would reveal to us the riches of Your glorious inheritance in the saints. Help us to see ourselves and our brothers and sisters in Christ through Your eyes, as Your beloved children, heirs of God and co-heirs with Christ (Romans 8:17). Let this truth transform how we view ourselves and how we treat one another, fostering unity, love, and humility within the body of Christ.

And Lord, we pray that we would fully comprehend the surpassing greatness of Your power toward us who believe. This is the same power that raised Jesus from the dead, a power that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think (Ephesians 3:20). Teach us to walk in this power, not relying on our own strength but on the might of Your Spirit. Let us see miracles, signs, and wonders as we step out in faith, trusting in Your promises.

We rebuke any spirit of complacency, doubt, or unbelief that would seek to dim our vision or dull our spiritual senses. We declare that our hearts are open to receive all that You have for us, and we reject any lie of the enemy that would tell us we are unworthy or incapable of walking in the fullness of Your calling. You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We stand firm in this truth.

We also want to address the importance of seeking God through the name of Jesus Christ. It is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father (John 14:6), and there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved (Acts 4:12). If anyone reading this has not yet surrendered their life to Jesus, we urge you to do so today. Confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved (Romans 10:9). This is the first and most critical step in knowing God and receiving the wisdom, revelation, and power He offers.

Let us encourage one another to press into God’s presence daily through prayer, worship, and the study of His Word. The Bible tells us that if any of us lacks wisdom, we should ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given to us (James 1:5). Let us not grow weary in seeking Him, for He rewards those who diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

Finally, we pray that as we grow in the knowledge of God, we would also grow in our love for Him and for one another. Let our lives be a reflection of Your glory, drawing others to You. May we walk in the fullness of Your Spirit, bearing fruit in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God (Colossians 1:10).

We're struck by how this prayer from Ephesians already carries you, it's a prayer that keeps unfolding the more you sit with it. Paul isn't asking for something small or quickly absorbed; he's asking that the eyes of a person's heart would actually be opened to see what's already true. That kind of seeing often comes slowly, in layers, over years. And it's okay if you don't feel the full weight of these realities all at once. What you're asking for is the Spirit's work, and He is faithful to complete it.

Sometimes we can treat a passage like this as a destination, something to attain, when in reality God often deepens our knowing of Him right in the middle of ordinary, unspectacular days. The hope of His calling may become clearer as you simply keep showing up. The riches of His inheritance in the saints can start to feel more real as you walk alongside other believers and see Christ at work in them. The surpassing greatness of His power is often best understood when we look back and recognize how He carried us through something we couldn't handle alone. None of this rushes. It's the long, steady training of the heart.

We're praying with you that God continues what He's already begun.

Father, we ask that You would keep opening the eyes of our hearts, not just for information, but for real, transforming knowledge of who You are. Let the hope You've called us into feel less like a distant idea and more like solid ground under our feet. It is a great and blessed prayer that the apostle breathed forth for the saints at Ephesus, and it gladdens my heart to see a soul panting after these same heavenly realities. The text itself is a plea that cannot be gainsaid, for it is according to the will of God. Let us then fix our gaze upon the One in whom all these treasures are stored, even Christ Jesus our Lord, for he is the power of God and the wisdom of God. If you would know the Father, look to the Son, for he that hath seen him hath seen the Father. The Spirit of wisdom and revelation opens the eyes of the heart not by some strange ecstasy, but by leading us to the foot of the cross, where in that complex person, God and man, we behold all that can be known of the glorious attributes of the blessed God. There, in the gospel, every perfection shines with unrivalled splendour.

You desire the hope of his calling. This hope is no thin, airy fancy, but sure and steadfast, because it rests upon the solemn promises of a covenant-keeping God and is sealed by the love of God shed abroad in the heart. That love is the final reason of our hope; if it could fail, where should we be? But having tasted that the Lord is gracious, we are not ashamed of this hope, for in our present delight in him we have the earnest of endless joy. The riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints are yours even now in the firstfruits of the Spirit, and they shall be fully unveiled when all things are put under the feet of him who is the head over all to the church.

As for the surpassing greatness of his power, it is the power that raised Christ from the dead and set him far above all principality and might. This same energy works in us, for when our own strength is utterly spent, then his power flows in to fill up the vacuum. He puts power into the faint, and those who have no might he increaseth strength. You must be buffeted with tempest to know his skill over winds and waves, but blessed are you when you cast yourself wholly upon him, for his hand of favour is also a hand of power.

Trust in the Lord with your whole heart, for this is true wisdom. Policy is not wisdom, and craft is not understanding; but he that trusts in the Lord, happy is he. If you would have power with God, know that it proceeds not from anything in you, but from that which is in God, his Fatherhood, his faithfulness, his love. Come to him with the child’s cry, “Abba, Father,” and you shall prevail. Let this be a time of personal pentecost, when the Spirit deeply impresses these truths upon your inmost soul. Labour after this in prayer, and then go forth with holy courage, for God works, and therefore we work. God is with us, and therefore we stand on his side. May the Lord himself grant you the full blessing of this prayer, for Christ’s sake. Amen.

Your very words, drawn from the Apostle’s own prayer, show the flame of a right desire. To seek wisdom and revelation from God, to long for enlightenment of the heart, to grasp the hope of His calling and the greatness of His power, this is the hunger of a soul that has been touched by grace. The shepherds who came to the manger did not philosophize about the star; they followed it and worshipped. You have done well to lay this petition before the Lord.

Yet, hear a careful word. Do not imagine that this “spirit of wisdom and revelation” means you will suddenly comprehend the divine essence or pry into that unapproachable light where God dwells. The wisdom of this world, with its endless disputations, God has made foolish. You ask for wisdom? Look to the Cross. To the Jews it is a stumbling block, and to the Greeks it is foolishness, but to those who are called, Christ is the very power of God and the wisdom of God. If you would know the surpassing greatness of His power, do not gaze up into the heavens, but gaze into the empty tomb. It was there that the strength of His might was exerted, raising Christ from the dead and seating Him far above all rule and authority. This is not a knowledge that inflates the mind; it is a power that raises the dead soul from sin and seats it with Christ in hope.

How then will God answer this prayer? Not merely by dropping notions into your intellect. He will open the “eyes of your heart” through trial, through temptation, and through the secret working of the Comforter. Do you not know that the Apostle himself was given a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan to buffet him, precisely so that he would not be exalted by the abundance of revelations? He pleaded for its removal, but God replied, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Do you see? The very path to knowing the surpassing greatness of His power is often the path of your own infirmity. He strengthens you, not so that you feel strong in yourself, but so that His power dwells upon you, and you become a faithful and wise steward of the very trials He permits. The riches of the glory of His inheritance are not reserved for some future day alone; they are already glimpsed when, amidst your weakness, you do not curse God, but rather boast in your afflictions so that the power of Christ may rest upon you.

Do not therefore seek this knowledge as a dead doctrine. It is the knowledge of a living hope. The Apostle did not merely recite this prayer once; having begun with it, he later prays the very same, that you may be strengthened with might through His Spirit in the inner man, comprehending the breadth, length, height, and depth of the love of Christ. This is the inheritance: to be filled with all the fullness of God. Since you have this faithful desire, I do not cease giving thanks for you, but I also urge you: make full use of what you have already received for the common advantage and your own salvation. Believe, obey, and love. Let your life be ordered by the hope of His calling.

May God, the Father of glory, grant you not merely a passing feeling of wonder, but the true revelation that comes from a holy life. May He enlighten the eyes of your heart so that you see everything else as refuse compared to the knowledge of Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge. Let your cry be, “O the depth of the riches both of the wisdom and knowledge of God!” and then fall silent in worship, for His ways are past finding out.
