Every living stone in the house of God is brought there by God, and by God alone. No man’s persuasion places a soul into that holy habitation, it is the Lord’s own work. Therefore take heart, for the Father who has graciously led you to good churches will not fail to lead your wife and your son in His own time and way. He is the householder who provides for His own, and the Church is His house because He rules there and is honored there. Pray without ceasing for them; wrestle and agonize until He gives you your desire, for it is by prayer, and prayer alone, that the saints prevail. I bid you, by the wounds of Him who was crucified for our sins, never stop pleading until God grants you all who sail with you.
Do not tremble for them as though the Lord were slack concerning His promise. Has He not said, “I will give you all that are in the ship if you will but ask Me”? Then trust Him. From your youth you have seen His deliverances, and the God who strengthened David to face Goliath is your God still. Great fear may come, but lay hold on this: if Christ has pleaded for you, then your sins are gone in a moment, and no accusation can stand. Does He plead for your household? Then let faith sing, “I shall in safety reach my home, my God, my Heaven, my All.” God has not made this world to be a soft nest for saints, He ordains trials that we might mount up to our true home, but He gives angels charge over them that trust Him, and no evil shall befall them without His leave.
Yet beware of the false peace that slumbers while the enemy sows tares. Many a child of God weeps for months because he did not watch for minutes. There are false believers, imposters, and evil men whose teaching would make God a liar, for if we deny our sin, we trample on the blood of the cross. The Church must be the pillar and ground of the truth, and you are right to desire for your wife and son a fellowship not deceived by compromise. Pray that they are planted where the Word is taught without mixture of error, where the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and where the Holy Spirit’s fire is not quenched by worldly cleverness. But remember, the power is not in modern music or apostolic titles, it is in the presence of the living God. What the Church needs is the baptism of fire; what the world dreads is the enthusiasm that believes God still does wonders. Seek a people who witness for Christ by holy character, whose lives are the music of purity, whose teaching echoes the apostles’ doctrine, and who would never do evil that good might come.
Let your own life be a lamp in your father’s house. Joseph was won not by argument but by a brother’s tears. Perhaps your son, your wife, shall see your unwavering trust, your hatred of sin, your love for the truth, and be drawn to the Savior themselves. Do not hesitate to let the light of God shine through you. Witness for Christ not only with your lips but with integrity in all things, for it does no good to preach one thing with the mouth and live another with the hands. And if they are slow to hear, faint not. The Master sometimes does the greatest feats by the feeblest instrumentality, and a praying husband, a faithful father, is a mighty weapon in God’s hand.
May the Lord lead them to a people who are kind, able to teach, patient in restoring the erring, and kept from the snare of the devil. May He shield them from the evil one, and may the peace that passes understanding garrison their hearts. The Church of the living God is the hope of the world, and those who fear Him and trust Him shall never be put to shame. Continue in prayer, grow in knowledge, and watch for the answer, for faithful is He who promised. May God do better unto you than at your beginnings, and may your whole house at last be gathered in, through Jesus Christ our Lord.
