Your question is one that many believers have carried quietly for a long time, and it is good that you have brought it into prayer and into the light.
What you describe, that God often brings deliverance only when things have come to a critical point, and that anxiety fills the waiting, is not strange to the life of faith. Scripture shows this pattern again and again. God does not always remove the trial at the first prayer, not because He is unwilling or slow, but because He is training us as soldiers under a Commander who is present and unconquerable. There is a hard warfare at hand for us, and we need strong arms and a steadfast purpose. Part of that training is learning how to stand.
To stand well is the first thing in any battle. That is why the apostle says, Stand therefore, watch, stand fast in the Lord, and having done all, to stand. Much of the work God is doing in the waiting is inside us, not outside. He is rousing our trust, setting us in due array, teaching us to be sober and vigilant and to keep our armor within. If He answered at the first moment every time, we would not learn to stand, we would only learn to be relieved.
He also works gently and by degrees. We often want everything to be made right at once, but He knows we cannot bear it all at once. So He withdraws us from fear and from old habits little by little, allowing us to gain breath, and then teaching us to do what is right not for the sake of relief alone, but for His sake. The waiting that feels like anxiety is often the place where He changes our disposition, which is what He most requires. Even the poor widow who had only two small coins was able to give everything because her heart was willing. God does not need much from us outwardly, He looks for a willing heart that trusts Him even when the answer has not yet come.
You also notice that when victory seems at hand, there is a counterattack to steal it away. That too belongs to the reality of spiritual warfare. There is a bad warfare that serves a tyrant, and a good warfare that serves the true King. The enemy does not give up ground without a struggle. When God has raised our spirits and given confidence, the adversary will try to bring confusion, doubt, or a new temptation to pull us back. This is why vigilance must continue even after the answer begins to appear. We are to war a good warfare, not with relaxed hands, but with continual watchfulness, holding fast to what God has given.
Anxiety itself is one of the burdens God wants to lift from you. Anxiety is greater than the pleasure of relief, and it can wither and disfigure the soul if we let it rule. But the beauty God is forming in you, a trust that is not shaken by circumstances, is not destroyed by time or trouble. It is ever blooming because it is rooted in Christ, who has redeemed us and set us free. With freedom Christ set us free, therefore stand fast and do not go back to the yoke of fear.
So in the waiting, practice standing. Bring the same request to God each day, but also ask Him to form in you the steadiness to trust Him before you see the outcome. Keep watch, stay in prayer, stay in the Word, stay close to the fellowship of believers who can help you stand. When the answer comes, even if it feels like a narrow escape, give thanks and guard what God has given by continuing to walk faithfully, not turning back to anxiety or to old patterns.
May the Lord, who is your Commander and helper, give you strength to war a good warfare, to stand firm in His freedom, and to know His peace even while you wait. He sees the critical point you feel, He has not forgotten you, and He will deliver in the way and time that most shows His mercy and most strengthens your faith.
