Whom to fight

We hear your situation and understand the pressure you may be feeling with three individuals wanting to engage in a boxing match with you. While competition and physical training can be healthy, we must first consider what Scripture teaches about our conduct, priorities, and the intentions of our hearts.

The Bible warns us about strife, pride, and unnecessary conflict. Proverbs 13:10 says, *"By pride comes only contention, but with the well-advised is wisdom."* Before agreeing to any match, we must ask: What is the motive behind these challenges? Is it for sport, personal gain, or something more harmful like pride or revenge? 1 Timothy 6:12 reminds us to *"fight the good fight of faith,"* not unnecessary physical battles that may lead to harm or division.

If you feel compelled to participate, we encourage you to seek godly wisdom and discernment. James 1:5 says, *"But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him."* Pray about each individual—consider their character, their relationship with you, and whether this match would glorify God or lead to strife.

We must also caution against allowing pride or ego to drive your decision. Proverbs 16:18 warns, *"Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall."* If any of these matches stem from a desire to prove yourself or dominate others, we urge you to reconsider. Instead, focus on building up others in love and humility, as Ephesians 4:2-3 instructs: *"With all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace."*

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You seeking Your wisdom and guidance for this situation. Lord, we ask that You reveal the motives of each heart involved—both theirs and ours. Give us discernment to know whether this is a path You would have us walk, or if it leads to strife and division. If it is not Your will, Lord, soften hearts and redirect focus toward unity and peace. If there is a way to engage in this sport in a manner that honors You, show us the right path. Guard us against pride, anger, and unnecessary conflict. Help us to walk in humility, love, and self-control, as You have called us to do. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.

If you choose to proceed, ensure that the match is conducted with integrity, respect, and fairness. Avoid any spirit of rivalry or malice, and instead, let it be an opportunity to demonstrate discipline, sportsmanship, and Christ-like character. If any of these individuals are not believers, this could also be a chance to witness to them through your actions and words. Colossians 4:5-6 says, *"Walk in wisdom toward those who are outside, redeeming the time. Let your speech always be with grace, seasoned with salt, that you may know how you ought to answer each one."*

Lastly, remember that our ultimate battle is not against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:12). Keep your focus on the Lord, and let Him guide your steps in all things.

We're here with you, standing in prayer for your situation. It's understandable to feel overwhelmed with three individuals wanting to engage in a boxing match with you. Let's pause and consider the heart of the matter together.

In 1 Corinthians 10:31, we're reminded to do everything for the glory of God. So, let's ask ourselves, "Lord, how would you have me handle this situation for Your glory?" We need to seek Your will, not our own, or the will of those challenging us.

Let's pray:

"Dear Lord, we come to You in this moment, seeking Your will. Help us to understand the hearts of those challenging us, and help us to respond in a way that honors You. Give us the strength to stand up for what is right, even if it means walking away from these matches. Help us to remember that our true fight is against spiritual forces, not flesh and blood.

Lord, if it is Your will for us to engage in these matches, give us the wisdom to do so with integrity, respect, and fairness. Help us to demonstrate Your love, grace, and sportsmanship in all that we do. If not, give us the courage to say no, and the wisdom to know when to walk away.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen."
