(I John 3:16-20) “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers. If anyone has material possessions and sees his brother in need but has no pity on him, how can the love of God be in him? Dear children, let us not love with words or tongue but with actions and in truth. This then is how we know that we belong to the truth, and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence whenever our hearts condemn us. For God is greater than our hearts and He knows everything.â€
Jesus is love personified; He is the love of God so great, that God birth that love into flesh to save the world. (John 3:16) “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life.†God saw that the sin in the world was so great and that there was no one here on earth to make atonement for mankind, so He became that atonement. (Isaiah 59:16-17) “He saw that there was no one, He was appalled that there was no one to intervene; so His own arm worked salvation for Him, and His own righteousness sustained Him. He put on the righteousness as His breastplate, and the helmet of salvation on His head; He put on the garments of vengeance and wrapped Himself in zeal as in a cloak.†He birthed that love into the world and called Him Jesus. (Hebrews 2:14) “Since the children have flesh and blood, He too shared in their humanity so that by His death He might destroy him who holds the power of death-- that is, the devil.†His humanity helps Him to understand our weakness and temptations. (Hebrews 2:15-18) “And free those who all their lives were held in slavery by their fear of death. For surely it is not angels He helps, but Abraham’s descendants. For this reason He had to be made like His brothers in every way, in order that He might become a merciful and faithful High Priest in service to God, and that He might make atonement for the sins of the people. Because He Himself suffered when He was tempted, He is able to help those who are being tempted.†Jesus is the love within you that causes you to lend a helping hand, to give of yourself and go the extra mile beyond your comfort zone in your time, your shoulder and your money. Jesus is the love that causes you to bless those who persecute you. When they are mean and do something hurtful, accuse you wrongly and talk behind your back you look within your heart and pray for them instead and treat them as a friend. The love of Jesus causes you to treat others the way you want to be treated whether they are kind to you or not. (Matthew 7:12) “So in everything, do to others what you would have them do to you, for this sums up the Law and the Prophets.†The love that comes from God is an Agape Love; it is a love that loves first and not because of what we do but in spite of it. The love of Jesus within you causes you love in that same way. (Matthew 5:46-47) “If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that?†Jesus is love and when we (those in the past and us in the present), sinned against Him, beat Him, spit on Him and betrayed Him, He still chose to die for us. He is also a love for the Father so great that He obeys even to death. (Philippians 2: 5-8) “Your attitude should be the same as that of Christ Jesus: Who being in very nature God; did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness. And being found in appearance as a man, He humbled Himself and became obedient to death even death on a cross!†The love of Jesus does not exalt self; it exalts others. (Philippians 2;3) “Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit, but in humility consider others better than yourselves.†He humbled Himself and God raised Him up. (Philippians 2:9) “Therefore God exalted Him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name.†His love is patient and gives you time and time again, year after year if needed to go around the mountain again, as long as it takes to turn your heart to Him and receive Him as Lord. (II Peter 3:19) “He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.†His love causes Him to be faithful to His promises for you, even when you are not. (II Timothy 2:13) “If we are faithless, He will remain faithful, for He cannot disown Himself.†His love for the Father is so great, He will not accept or condone evil or wrongdoing, but instead He prays for them as He did on the cross. (Luke 23:34) “Jesus said, ‘Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.†His love is compassionate, understanding and merciful, always willing to heal and forgive. (Psalm 103:2-3) “Praise the Lord, O my soul, and forget not all His benefits--who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases.†We can always go to the Father and repent and ask forgiveness. (I John 1:8-9) “If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness.†He remembers that we are but flesh and the flesh is weak. (Psalm 103:13-14) “As a Father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear Him; for He knows how we are formed, He remembers that we are dust.†God knows and understands our hearts. He knows that perfection will not come to us until we receive our glorified bodies in heaven. This leads to another facet of the love of Jesus; understanding. His love knows our hearts. He knows when we are sad and the emotions we battle from trials that we have been through. He knows the things that cause us or has caused us great pain. (Psalm 147:5) “Great is our Lord and mighty in power; His understanding has no limit.†Jesus is everything we need. He is our Master, our Lord, King of Kings, our Prince of Peace, Lion of the tribe of Judah, our Messiah, Immanuel, Wonderful Counselor, Strongtower, A Friend that sticks closer than a brother, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Lamb of God our Savior. The love of God does not compare to anything else in all creation nor can anything separate us from it. (Romans 8:35-39) “Who shall separate us from the love of Christ? Shall trouble or hardship or persecution or famine or nakedness or danger or sword? As it is written: ‘For your sake we face death all day long; we are considered a sheep to be slaughtered.’ No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us. For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.†Nothing else can fill us the way He does, love us the way He loves us or save us. His names say it all.
