What’s the point?

Beloved of All
Why continue to try to live holy. I get angry at people who get to enjoy sexual pleasures and fornication. They do it on purpose to make me mad!!?? I hate these evil men! I hate these evil women! But they claim nobody is perfect. So why can I do it then? I swear I hate this stupid crap!!! This is the only thing that makes my life difficult. Having a sex drive.

We hear the deep frustration and anger in your words, and we want you to know that your struggle is not unseen or unheard by God. The pain of watching others indulge in sin while you strive to live righteously is a heavy burden to carry. But let us remind you—your pursuit of holiness is not in vain. The world may mock purity, but God honors it, and His Word is clear:

*"For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don’t know God."* (1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 WEB)

The enemy wants you to believe that holiness is a curse, that self-control is a prison, and that those who live in sin are freer than you. But that is a lie. Sin brings bondage, not freedom. The temporary pleasures of the flesh lead only to emptiness, shame, and spiritual decay. What you see as a "sex drive" making life difficult is actually a God-given desire meant to be fulfilled within the sacred covenant of marriage between one man and one woman. Until then, the Lord calls us to steward our bodies and desires with discipline, not resentment.

Your anger is understandable, but we must rebuke the hatred in your heart. Jesus said, *"But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you."* (Matthew 5:44 WEB) Hatred only poisons your own soul. Instead, pray for those who flaunt their sin—not that they would continue in it, but that their eyes would be opened to the truth and that they would repent. Their rebellion is not against you, but against God. Vengeance belongs to Him alone.

As for the question, *"Why can’t I do it then?"*—because you are called to something higher. You are set apart. *"For you were once darkness, but are now light in the Lord. Walk as children of light"* (Ephesians 5:8 WEB). The world’s standard is not God’s standard. Their justification—*"nobody is perfect"*—is a weak excuse for willful disobedience. Yes, all have sinned and fall short of God’s glory (Romans 3:23), but the difference is repentance. The blood of Jesus covers our sins when we turn from them, not when we embrace them.

We also must address the root of your struggle. If sexual temptation is your greatest battle, you are not alone. Even the apostle Paul wrote, *"For I don’t know what I am doing. For I don’t practice what I desire to do; but what I hate, that I do."* (Romans 7:15 WEB). But he also declared, *"I can do all things through Christ, who strengthens me."* (Philippians 4:13 WEB). Victory is not found in your own strength, but in surrender to the Holy Spirit. Flee temptation. Fill your mind with Scripture. Seek accountability with godly believers. And remember—your worth is not defined by your desires, but by the One who created you.

Let us pray for you now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You on behalf of our brother who is wrestling with anger, temptation, and the weight of living in a world that celebrates sin. Lord, we ask that You would strengthen him with Your might. Replace his hatred with compassion, his bitterness with peace, and his weakness with Your power. Remind him that his body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, bought with the precious blood of Jesus, and that You have called him to honor You with it.

Father, we rebuke the lies of the enemy that tell him holiness is a burden. We declare that Your commands are not grievous, but life-giving. Where the world says, *"Do what feels good,"* You say, *"Walk in My ways, and you will find true joy."* We pray for those who flaunt their sin before him—soften their hearts, Lord. Open their eyes to the emptiness of their choices and draw them to repentance.

We ask that You would satisfy the longings of his heart with Your presence. If marriage is Your will for him, prepare him for a godly spouse who shares his commitment to You. Until then, give him the strength to stand firm, the wisdom to flee temptation, and the grace to walk in purity. Let him see that his struggle is not in vain, but that You are using it to refine him into the image of Christ.

We pray all this in the mighty name of Jesus, the only name by which we are saved and the only name that gives us access to Your throne. May our brother find his identity, his purpose, and his victory in You alone. Amen.

Do not lose heart. The world may rage, but God’s Word stands forever. Your obedience is not unseen, and your reward is eternal. Keep fighting the good fight—your King is coming soon.

We hear your frustration, dear friend, and we're here with you. It's tough watching others indulge in sin while you strive for holiness. It's like they're rubbing salt in your wounds, isn't it? But remember, Jesus said, "Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted" (Matthew 5:4). Your pain is real, and God sees it.

You're right, it's hard to understand why some people seem to enjoy their sin so much. But remember, "The heart is deceitful above all things, and desperately wicked" (Jeremiah 17:9). What seems like joy is often just a mask for emptiness and shame. They're not doing this to hurt you, they're just lost in their own sin.

Your anger is understandable, but don't let it consume you. Jesus said, "Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you" (Matthew 5:44). Pray for them, not that they would continue in their sin, but that their eyes would be opened to the truth and they would repent.

You're not alone in your struggle. Even the apostle Paul struggled with his flesh. He wrote, "For I do not do the good I want to do, but the evil I do not want to do—this I keep on doing" (Romans 7:19). But he also wrote, "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me" (Philippians 4:13). The key is to keep your eyes on Jesus and surrender your desires to Him.

Let's pray together:

Dear Lord, we come before You today with our brother's burden. Lord, we ask that You would give him strength to stand firm in his pursuit of holiness. Help him to see these people not as enemies, but as lost sheep in need of a Savior. Give him the grace to love them as You love them.

Lord, we also ask that You would satisfy his longings with Your presence. If marriage is Your will for him, prepare him for a godly spouse who shares his commitment to You. Until then, give him the strength to stand firm, the wisdom to flee temptation, and the grace to walk in purity.

In Jesus' mighty name, we pray. Amen.

Keep fighting the good fight, dear friend. Your King is coming soon.
