What many of us are feeling

If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19 If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you.

We understand deeply the weight of these words from John 15:18-19, where our Lord Jesus prepares His disciples—and by extension, all who follow Him—for the reality of a world that stands in opposition to His truth. The hatred and rejection you describe are not new; they are the same resistance Christ Himself endured, and they confirm that we are no longer of this world but have been chosen out of it. This is not a cause for despair but a mark of our identity in Him. As Jesus said, *"If the world hates you, you know that it has hated me before it hated you. If you were of the world, the world would love its own. But because you are not of the world, since I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you"* (John 15:18-19, WEB).

Yet even in this, we are not left without hope or purpose. Our Lord did not abandon us to this hostility but gave us clear instruction: *"Remember the word that I said to you: ‘A servant is not greater than his lord.’ If they persecuted me, they will also persecute you. If they kept my word, they will keep yours also"* (John 15:20, WEB). This persecution is not a sign of failure but of faithfulness. The world’s hatred is a reminder that we are ambassadors of a Kingdom not built by human hands but established by the blood of Christ. Our citizenship is in heaven (Philippians 3:20), and our allegiance is to Him alone.

Still, this truth does not make the sting of rejection or the burden of opposition any lighter in our human experience. The apostle Peter reminds us, *"Beloved, don’t be astonished at the fiery trial which has come upon you, to test you, as though a strange thing happened to you. But because you are partakers of Christ’s sufferings, rejoice; that at the revelation of his glory you also may rejoice with exceeding joy"* (1 Peter 4:12-13, WEB). Our sufferings are not in vain—they are shared with Christ, and they will one day be turned to incomparable glory.

Let us also remember the words of Paul, who urged the Romans: *"Don’t be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God"* (Romans 12:2, WEB). The world’s hatred is a call to deeper sanctification, to stand firm in the truth even when it is unpopular, and to love those who oppose us with the same love Christ showed His persecutors. *"Bless those who persecute you; bless, and don’t curse"* (Romans 12:14, WEB).

We must also examine our hearts in this season. Are we responding to the world’s hatred with bitterness, or are we trusting God to vindicate His name? Are we allowing the pressure of opposition to drive us closer to Him, or are we compromising to avoid conflict? Jesus warned that *"whoever therefore who confesses me before men, I will also confess him before my Father who is in heaven. But whoever denies me before men, I will also deny him before my Father who is in heaven"* (Matthew 10:32-33, WEB). Our response to the world’s hatred must be unwavering faithfulness, not retreat.

Let us pray together for strength, wisdom, and a heart that reflects Christ’s love even in the face of opposition:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that ache under the weight of a world that rejects Your truth. Yet we thank You, Lord, that this very rejection is a sign we belong to You—that we have been chosen out of this world to bear Your name. Lord Jesus, You endured the cross, despising its shame, and now sit at the right hand of the Father. Grant us the same endurance, the same courage, to stand firm in the face of hostility. Fill us with Your Spirit, that we may respond not with anger or fear but with love, grace, and an unshakable trust in Your sovereignty.

Father, we ask for wisdom to navigate these days with discernment. Help us to speak the truth boldly yet with gentleness, to live lives that honor You even when it costs us. Remind us that our struggle is not against flesh and blood but against the spiritual forces of darkness (Ephesians 6:12), and equip us with Your armor to stand firm. When we are weary, refresh us. When we are discouraged, lift our eyes to the hope of Your returning glory.

Lord, we pray for unity among Your people, that we would not be divided by fear or compromise but would stand together as a light in the darkness. May our lives be a testament to Your grace, and may even our sufferings bring You glory. Strengthen those who are facing persecution, comfort those who are lonely or rejected, and give us all a deeper hunger for Your presence.

We ask these things in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, who overcame the world and calls us to do the same. Amen.

Stand firm, dear brothers and sisters. The world’s hatred is temporary, but the reward of faithfulness is eternal. *"He who overcomes, I will make him a pillar in the temple of my God, and he will never go out from it. I will write on him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from my God, and my own new name"* (Revelation 3:12, WEB). Our victory is already secured in Christ. Let us walk in that confidence today.

We're right there with you, feeling the weight of the world's hatred. It's tough, isn't it? But remember, Jesus warned us about this. He said, "If the world hates you, know that it hated me first." It's not a sign that we're doing something wrong, but rather, it's a confirmation that we're on the right track. We're not of this world, and that's why it reacts this way.

But here's the thing, we're not left to face this alone. Jesus promised, "I am with you always, to the end of the age." (Matthew 28:20) He's right there with us, every step of the way. And not only that, but He's given us His Spirit to comfort, guide, and strengthen us.

Let's pray together for courage, for love, and for wisdom. Let's ask God to help us respond to hatred with love, just as Jesus did. Let's trust that even in the midst of rejection, God is working in us and through us.

Lord Jesus, we come to You today feeling the sting of the world's hatred. But we thank You that this very hatred is a sign that we belong to You. Help us to stand firm, to love even our enemies, and to trust in Your sovereignty. Fill us with Your Spirit, that we may walk in Your ways and bring glory to Your name. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.
