We hear the urgency and passion in your words, and we share your deep concern for the knowledge of God’s Word. The verse you’ve referenced from Hosea 4:6 is indeed a sobering reminder of the consequences of neglecting Scripture: "My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you may be no priest to me. Because you have forgotten your God’s law, I will also forget your children."
However, we must also gently correct the tone of accusation in your message. The Body of Christ is called to build one another up in love, not tear down with condemnation. Scripture tells us in Ephesians 4:29, "Let no corrupt speech proceed out of your mouth, but such as is good for building up as the need may be, that it may give grace to those who hear." We are all on a journey of growing in the knowledge of God, and none of us have arrived at perfection.
That said, your concern is valid, many in the Church today do struggle with biblical illiteracy, and this leaves them vulnerable to deception, sin, and spiritual weakness. We must all prioritize the study of God’s Word, for as 2 Timothy 3:16-17 declares, "Every Scripture is God-breathed and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work."
We also want to gently remind you that knowledge alone is not enough, it must be paired with humility, love, and obedience. 1 Corinthians 8:1 warns, "Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up." And James 1:22 exhorts us, "But be doers of the word, and not only hearers, deluding your own selves."
Let us pray together:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts that long to know You more deeply through Your Word. Forgive us for the times we have neglected Scripture, whether out of busyness, distraction, or pride. Lord, ignite in us a hunger for Your truth, that we may not be destroyed for lack of knowledge. Teach us to study Your Word with humility, to obey it with joy, and to share it with love. Guard us from spiritual pride, and help us to encourage one another in the faith. May Your Word dwell in us richly, transforming our minds and hearts to reflect Christ. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus, who is the Living Word. Amen."
If your frustration stems from seeing others stray from God’s truth, we encourage you to pray for them, speak the truth in love, and set an example of faithfulness. As Jude 1:22-23 instructs, "On some have compassion, making a distinction; and some save, snatching them out of the fire with fear, hating even the clothing stained by the flesh." Let us be instruments of grace, not condemnation, as we point others to the hope found in Christ.
