We join with you in this beautiful and tender prayer and we say amen to your desire to seek Him early and to bear fruit for His glory.

We love the verse you have shared from Song 7:12, Let us go early to the vineyards to see if the vines have budded, if their blossoms have opened, and if the pomegranates are in bloom there I will give you my love. What a lovely picture this is of love that is eager, watchful, and willing to leave behind distractions to walk together with the Beloved. In Scripture this vineyard love speaks both of the holy love within marriage between a husband and wife and of the love between Christ and His people, His bride. We are reminded that we are called to seek the Lord early and diligently, as the psalmist prayed in Psalm 63:1, God, you are my God. I will earnestly seek you. My soul thirsts for you. My flesh longs for you in a dry and weary land, where there is no water.

You asked about the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life, and whether Jesus is the Word of God. We affirm with joy that He is. In John 1:1 we read, In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. And in John 1:14, The Word became flesh, and lived among us. He Himself said in John 6:35, I am the bread of life. He who comes to me will not be hungry, and he who believes in me will never be thirsty. And again in John 6:51, I am the living bread which came down out of heaven. So when we feed on His Word and abide in Him, our lives are nourished and made fruitful.

Your prayer to bear fruit is exactly the heart of what Jesus teaches us. He said in John 15:5, I am the vine. You are the branches. He who remains in me, and I in him, the same bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing. And in John 15:4, Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me. The tender grapes and pomegranates you prayed for are the fruit of the Spirit described in Galatians 5:22-23, But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control. This fruit blossoms only as we walk closely with Him and remain in His love.

It is a gracious and hopeful thing to hear a prayer that longs to seek the Lord early, to leave distractions behind and to walk with Him in the vineyard. The desire you express is one that God Himself awakens, for no heart seeks Him until He first seeks it, and when He does, it is wise to rise while the dew is yet on the tender buds.

You have well quoted, Let us go early to the vineyards to see if the vines have budded. There is nothing like the morning market, and there is nothing like seeking Christ early. They that seek Him early shall find Him, and shall find Him with an emphasis, to a degree and in a measure in which others who linger do not. If you would know whether grace is budding and love is blossoming, you must go early and often to communion with Him.

Remember where that communion is to be found. The Ark was put away in the Most Holy Place and was the express symbol of the Presence of God, and from above the Mercy Seat God met with man. So there is now no meeting place with God, there is no place for prevailing prayer, but where you meet God in the Person of Jesus Christ, the one great Sin Offering. He is the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life, for Jesus is the Word made flesh, and in Him alone is God with us. To seek the vineyard apart from Christ is to seek fruit where no fruit can grow.

You pray that your lives may bear fruit, that the tender grapes and pomegranates of love, joy and peace may blossom. Know this, only from that rod which budded can come the perfect fruit bearing that every true child of God desires to produce. Fruit does not come from earnest resolutions alone, but from abiding in the Vine. As you declare your ways unto the Lord and say with the Psalmist, I have declared my ways and You heard me, teach me Your statutes, He will hear and He will teach. He will clothe you with the righteousness which is the best robe for those who serve Him, and make your lives to be a sweet fragrance, not through mere affection, but through holiness.

Therefore seek Him together in His Word and in prayer, and seek to be conformed to His will in all things. True love and true unity are found where hearts are first united to Christ and then, in His order, to one another according to His holy design. Marriage, as God ordained it from the beginning, is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and all that belongs to its intimacy and dwelling together belongs within it. Apart from that path there is no blessing, but within His statutes there is safety and joy, for we have no alliance but with God alone, and we dwell in safety when we dwell with Him.

May the Lord grant you grace to seek Him early and to find Him. May He keep you from being content with this world and its passing joys, and make you to know that to be encompassed around with God, the Holy and the Just, is both our awe and our comfort. May He make you fruitful in every good work, not by your own strength, but by His power in Christ, and may He teach you His statutes day by day.

We pray for you that the Father would draw you nearer to His Son, that you would meet Him at the Mercy Seat, that you would be cleansed by His blood, clothed in His righteousness, and made to bring forth fruit unto His glory, that whatever you are and whatever you do may be offered wholly to Him. Your desire to seek the Lord early and to bear fruit for Him is good and pleasing to God, and it is right that you want your love and affection to be offered to Him first.

Scripture teaches that bearing fruit is for the glory of the Father, and that no branch can bear fruit by itself. The Son keeps us in Himself and the Father purges us, and abiding in the root is what makes the branches fruitful. A branch that remains on the root will bear fruit, and the Father in His care prunes it so it will bear more. This fruit is not like the fruit of common trees that waits a long time and is bound to seasons. When there is a willing heart, and the skill of the heavenly Husbandman is at work, the tree can put forth fruit at once. The willingness to remain in Christ and to be cleansed by Him is what matters most.

You asked about the Bread of Heaven and the Word of Life. Jesus Himself is the Word of God, the living Bread who came down from heaven, and it is by receiving Him by faith and abiding in Him that we know the grace of God and show it in our lives, not in words only but in deeds.

So I pray for each of you that God would awaken your heart early to seek His presence and to leave behind distractions, that you would abide in Christ as branches in the vine, that He would purge and cleanse you, and that the fruit of the Spirit, love, joy and peace, would blossom in your lives as a sweet fragrance to Him. I pray that you would grow in faith in Jesus Christ alone for salvation, and walk in holiness before Him.

If you are two people walking together in romantic love and desire to be united, I pray that you will pursue that desire in the way God has designed, which is the lifelong covenant of marriage between one man and one woman, and that until and within that covenant you will honor Him with purity, not living together or sharing the privileges of marriage outside of it. Scripture shows that the fruit God desires in our lives does not come from trying harder in our own strength. It comes from relationship. Jesus said, I am the vine, you are the branches. He who abides in Me and I in him will bring forth much fruit, but apart from Me you can do nothing. When you remain in Christ and let His word remain in you, fruit appears in a natural way, not forced, because His life is flowing through you.

That fruit is contrasted with works. God is not looking for works of self righteousness. He is looking for the fruit of the Spirit, and that fruit is love. This love is not just a feeling. God desires both our verbal expression of love to Him and our deeds of love toward one another. True love will show itself in how we speak and how we act. And that love, when it is real, brings with it joy and peace and patience, kindness and goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control. You cannot produce these qualities on your own. They grow as you keep His commandments, remain in His love, and continue in prayer and fellowship with Him.

You also asked about fruit as a sweet fragrance. When love is flowing from Christ through you to each other and to others, your lives do become fragrant to God and your hearts are bound together in His love. That is the evidence that His Spirit is at work, for everyone who loves is born of God and knows God, because God is love.

The joy you are seeking is also found in that same place of abiding. The fullness of joy is tied to fellowship with God. Happiness depends on what is happening around us, but joy remains because your relationship with God through Jesus Christ is secure. As you walk with Him, have all things in common with Him, and share your lives with Him in partnership and friendship, He fills you with that steady joy and with the peace that guards your heart.

So continue to seek Him early together. Offer Him your heart, your time, and your affection as you have prayed. Ask Him to keep you abiding in Christ, to let His word dwell richly in you, and to teach you to love as He has loved you. As you do, He will be glorified as much fruit appears, love first of all, and then the tender blossoms of joy and peace and all the rest.

I pray the Lord will draw you both into deeper communion with Jesus, that His love will be perfected in you, that He will cause love, joy and peace to blossom in your hearts, and that your lives together will bear lasting fruit that honors Him.
