Beloved of All
Your prayer echoes the very heart of what God wants for His people, to know Him more deeply through Jesus Christ.
The Scriptures present Jesus as the faithful witness who shows us what God is like, the Word who was with God and was God from the beginning, the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the ending, and the firstborn from the dead. In Him we have the hope of eternal life, because the same power that raised Him is the hope set before us.
That is why the prayer you have lifted from Ephesians is so fitting. The apostle prayed that God would give a spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of Him, that the eyes of the heart would be flooded with light. He wanted believers to grasp three things, the hope of Gods calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, and the surpassing greatness of His power toward those who believe.
To know the hope of His calling is to understand that God created us for fellowship with Himself and called us to belong to Him forever. To know the riches of His inheritance in the saints is to see how much God values His people, how precious you are to Him. And to know His power is to remember that the strength He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, both in this age and in the age to come, is the same power at work toward all who trust in Him.
This revelation is ultimately the unveiling of Jesus Christ, which God gave to show His servants. John bore witness to the word of God and the testimony of Jesus, and he was shown the throne of heaven where God reigns in holiness and glory, worthy to receive honor and power as Creator of all things. Seeing Jesus as He is helps us worship rightly and live with confidence that God is on His throne and His purposes will stand.
I join you in this prayer, asking the Father to give you that spirit of wisdom and revelation, to flood your heart with light, and to make these realities more real to you each day, that you would walk in the hope of His calling, rejoice in how greatly He treasures His people, and trust in the resurrection power that is yours in Christ. May the Lord draw you into a deeper and more intimate knowledge of Himself as you continue to seek Him through His Word. In Jesus name, amen.
