Beloved of All
Your prayer is beautiful and it goes right to the heart of what God wants for His people. The apostle Paul prayed this same prayer for the believers in Ephesus, that God would give a spirit of wisdom and revelation so they would truly know Him, not just know about Him.
To know God intimately is more than learning facts. Jesus came as the faithful witness to show us exactly what the Father is like. In Him we see God clearly, for He is the beginning and the end, the Word who was with God and who is God, the first to rise from the dead and the guarantee of our own hope of eternal life.
When Paul asks that the eyes of your heart would be flooded with light, he is asking that your inner understanding would be opened. There are three things he wants you to see clearly.
First, the hope of His calling. God created you for fellowship with Himself, to bring Him pleasure through a loving relationship. He has called you with a sure and living hope that looks beyond this life.
Second, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints. This is how much God values you. You are not forgotten or insignificant. You are His treasured possession, and He counts you as His inheritance.
Third, the surpassing greatness of His power toward us who believe. It is the same mighty power He exerted when He raised Christ from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly places, far above all rule and authority and power and dominion, both in this age and in the age to come. The One who sits upon the throne, whom the living creatures worship as holy, holy, holy, the Lord God Almighty who was and is and is to come, is the same risen Christ who now reigns above all.
That power is not distant. It is toward you who believe. The same God who is eternal and outside of time, the great I AM who created the heavens and the earth, is at work in your life today to make Himself known and to strengthen you.
So continue to ask as you have asked. Ask the Father of glory to keep opening your heart to know Him better, to make His hope more certain to you, to show you how precious you are to Him, and to make His resurrection power real in your daily walk. He delights to answer that prayer, and He will lead you as you seek Him, opening the right doors and making His presence known as you worship Him in spirit and in truth wherever you are.
May the Lord grant you this growing revelation of Jesus Christ, and may your heart be filled with light, confidence and peace as you see more of His love, His calling and His power in your life.
