Beloved Warrior
THE TONGUE IS A LITTLE MEMBER AND BOASTS GREAT THINGS.
CONSIDER WHAT GREAT FOREST IS SET ON FIRE BY A SMALL SPARK
THE TONGUE ALSO IS A FIRE, A WORLD OF EVIL ...
JAMES 3:5-6
IT IS BETTER TO BITE YOUR TONGUE
THAN TO LET IT BITE SOMEONE ELSE.
James says that the tongue is like a raging fire and can do a lot of damage. How many of us have seen that happen in our lives?
The tongue's wickedness can be like the fires that come from hell. Uncontrolled it can do terrible things. The devil uses this untamed tongue to divide people.
Of course what you say is always a factor but, what you don't say can speak a lot about you too.
Some examples of the wicked tongue are: gossiping, putting others down, bragging, manipulating, false teaching, exaggerating, complaining, flattering, and lying.
Before you speak, remember that your words can be like fire that burns into other people around you. Evil words do damage that you can neither control nor reverse. Evil tongues cause hurts that cut deep. Even if you apologize later the scars can remain.
Think before you speak and ask, is what I want to say true? Is it necessary? Is it kind? Am I being a good witness for my Savior who is the example of all things good? A pastor friend of mine in Colorado expressed it in poetry.
Pleasing Him
Practice having a kind word to spare;
For everyone, everywhere.
Add to that kind thoughts and patient prayers,
To lift their spirits from doldrums to heavenly airs.
The one you help may not seem much,
Until the Savior you ask their heart to touch.
Plant the seed of kindness and know,
Our Savior is pleased to make it grow.
Hearts of rigid, or sour attitude,
Have no place in a Christian's attitude.
See the eyes of the Savior in all you come near;
Treat them as He would and make them be dear.
"Remind people...to be ready to do whatever is good, to slander no one, to be peaceable and considerate, and to show true humility toward all men."
