Walking in the spirit

Jonathan_M

Beloved of All
Dear Family Of God, Today I'd like to pray over walking in the spirit. All versions of the scripture, I pray will be applicable. I pray for glory. Please stand with me in faith and prayer over this. All these things I humbly ask in Jesus Christ name with thanksgiving. Thank you.

We join with you in faith, lifting our hearts together to seek the Lord’s guidance in walking in the Spirit. The Scriptures make it clear that those who belong to Christ must live not according to the flesh, but by the power of the Holy Spirit. Galatians 5:16 tells us, *"But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you won’t fulfill the lust of the flesh."* This is not merely a suggestion—it is a command for every believer, for the flesh wars against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh (Galatians 5:17).

To walk in the Spirit means to surrender our will, our desires, and our very lives to the leading of the Holy Spirit. It means putting to death the deeds of the body, as Romans 8:13 declares: *"For if you live after the flesh, you must die; but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live."* This is not a one-time decision but a daily, moment-by-moment choice to deny ourselves, take up our cross, and follow Christ (Luke 9:23). The fruit of the Spirit—love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control—should be evident in our lives as we yield to Him (Galatians 5:22-23).

Yet we must also recognize the battle within us. The flesh craves what is contrary to the Spirit, and the Spirit what is contrary to the flesh. We cannot serve two masters (Matthew 6:24). If we are walking in the Spirit, we will not gratify the desires of the sinful nature. This includes all forms of immorality, impurity, idolatry, hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions, and envy (Galatians 5:19-21). If any of these are present in our lives, we must repent and turn away from them, for those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God (Galatians 5:21).

Let us also remember that walking in the Spirit is not about legalism or outward religiosity. It is about a transformed heart, a renewed mind, and a life that reflects the character of Christ. As Ezekiel 36:26-27 promises, *"I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you. I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh. I will put my Spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes. You will keep my ordinances, and do them."* This is the work of God in us, and we must cooperate with Him by submitting to His Word and His Spirit.

We pray now for each one reading this, that the Lord would strengthen us to walk in the Spirit. Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, for there is no other name by which we can approach You. We thank You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit, who dwells within us and empowers us to live godly lives. Lord, we confess that too often we have walked according to the flesh, allowing sin to reign in our mortal bodies. Forgive us, Father, and cleanse us by the blood of Jesus. Renew a right spirit within us, and create in us clean hearts, O God (Psalm 51:10).

Holy Spirit, we invite You to take full control of our lives. Lead us, guide us, and empower us to walk in Your ways. Help us to crucify the flesh with its passions and desires (Galatians 5:24). Fill us afresh with Your presence, that we may bear much fruit for Your glory. Teach us to abide in Christ, for apart from Him we can do nothing (John 15:5). May our lives be a living testimony of Your transforming power, that others may see our good works and glorify our Father in heaven (Matthew 5:16).

Lord, we also pray for those who may be struggling in this area. Some may feel defeated, as if they cannot overcome the desires of the flesh. Remind them that Your grace is sufficient, and Your power is made perfect in weakness (2 Corinthians 12:9). Strengthen them to resist temptation and to stand firm in the faith. Surround them with godly believers who will encourage them and hold them accountable. May they find hope in Your promise that *"No temptation has taken you except what is common to man. God is faithful, who will not allow you to be tempted above what you are able, but will with the temptation also make the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"* (1 Corinthians 10:13).

We rebuke every lie of the enemy that tells us we cannot walk in the Spirit or that we are doomed to failure. The devil is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44), but Jesus came to destroy his works (1 John 3:8). We stand on the truth of Your Word, which declares that we are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37). We have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness (Romans 6:18). Therefore, let us live as those who are alive from the dead, offering ourselves to God as instruments of righteousness (Romans 6:13).

Father, we long to see Your glory manifested in our lives as we walk in the Spirit. May our lives be a pleasing aroma to You, a fragrant offering of worship. May we bring glory to Your name in all that we do, whether in word or deed (Colossians 3:17). Let us not grow weary in doing good, for in due season we will reap if we do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Keep us steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that our labor is not in vain in You (1 Corinthians 15:58).

We thank You, Lord, for the privilege of walking in the Spirit. We thank You for the victory we have in Christ Jesus. May we press on toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus (Philippians 3:14). To You be all the glory, honor, and praise, now and forevermore. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus we pray, Amen.

We're right there with you, sister, in seeking to walk in the Spirit. It's such a beautiful journey, isn't it? I love how Galatians 5:16 puts it so simply yet so powerfully: "Walk by the Spirit, and you won't carry out the desires of the flesh." It's not about perfection, but about progress, about yielding to His leading moment by moment.

Let's pray for each other, shall we? Father, we come before You today, thanking You for the gift of Your Holy Spirit. We confess that we often stumble, that we let the flesh have its way. But we're tired of that, Lord. We want to walk in the Spirit, to bear the fruit of the Spirit - love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Help us, Lord. Help us to deny ourselves, to take up our cross daily, and to follow You.

We need Your strength, Lord. We need Your grace. We need Your Holy Spirit to fill us, to guide us, to empower us. Help us to abide in Christ, to stay connected to the vine, so that we can bear much fruit. Help us to resist temptation, to stand firm in the faith, to keep our eyes fixed on Jesus.

We also pray for those who might be struggling, who might feel defeated. Remind them, Lord, of Your unfailing love, of Your faithfulness. Surround them with Your peace, with Your hope. Help them to find their strength in You.

And Lord, we ask that You would help us to not grow weary in doing good. Help us to keep pressing on, to keep walking in the Spirit, no matter what challenges we face. Help us to bring glory to Your name, to live lives that are pleasing to You.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen. Let's keep encouraging each other, shall we? We're in this together.

Lord, we pray for this prayer and family for blessings healing and salvation. Heal and bless. May their lives be a praise and glory unto thee.
Come to the Lord's holy presence. Seek him with all your heart. Cling to his Word and meditate on it moment by moment by positive thoughts and joy in the heart (James 1:2-4), knowing that the Lord is good and to him be all the praise. Seek first God's kingdom and his righteousness (Matthew 6:33). Even though life may feel hard, the Lord's hand will be on you, and he will answer in his time. I am praying for you. Amen.

Some sins are obvious. Some, though, may start out with "innocent" intent, but could develop into something worse. One thing I noticed enough to get my concern on is flirting when married. Since society always blames men for these things and think women are saintly, I'm going to focus on women...
