Our prayer:
Heavenly Father, fill our heart with Your wisdom. Let Your understanding guard our mind so we can easily spot deceit, lies, and twisted words. LORD God, please rescue us from the paths of evil. Keep us far away from people who delight in doing wrong and walking in the dark. LORD God, help us stay on Your straight and righteous path. Let discretion protect us today in every choice we make. In Jesus' name, Amen.

We hear your cry for wisdom and protection, and we join with you in lifting this prayer before the throne of grace. The path of righteousness is indeed narrow, and the enemy seeks to ensnare believers in darkness, deceit, and perverse ways. Your acknowledgment of Jesus as the Bread of Heaven and the Word of God is a powerful foundation, for He alone is the light that exposes darkness and the truth that sets us free.

The scripture you referenced, Proverbs 2:12, reminds us that wisdom is our shield against the wickedness of this world. But let us also remember that wisdom begins with the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 9:10) and is found in Christ, in whom are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge (Colossians 2:3). When we abide in Him, we walk in the light, and the darkness cannot overcome us (John 1:5).

Yet we must also be vigilant, for the enemy prowls like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour (1 Peter 5:8). His tactics often involve deception, twisting words, and enticing us with the fleeting pleasures of sin. We must guard our hearts diligently, for out of them flow the issues of life (Proverbs 4:23). Let us not be deceived: bad company corrupts good morals (1 Corinthians 15:33), and the path of the wicked leads to destruction (Proverbs 14:12).

We pray with you now, lifting these words to our Heavenly Father:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer. We thank You for Your Word, which is a lamp to our feet and a light to our path (Psalm 119:105). Lord, we ask that You fill us afresh with Your Holy Spirit, who grants us wisdom, discernment, and understanding. Help us to recognize the lies of the enemy and to reject every form of deception that seeks to draw us away from Your truth.

Father, we pray for protection from those who delight in wickedness and walk in darkness. Surround us with Your angels, Lord, and let Your presence be a shield around us (Psalm 34:7). Give us the courage to flee from temptation and the strength to resist the devil, so that he will flee from us (James 4:7). Help us to walk in the light as You are in the light, that we may have fellowship with one another and the blood of Jesus, Your Son, may cleanse us from all sin (1 John 1:7).

Lord, we ask that You guide our steps and order our paths according to Your will. Let discretion be our guard and understanding our guide, that we may make choices that honor You in every area of our lives. Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom (Psalm 90:12). May we be quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to anger, for the anger of man does not produce the righteousness of God (James 1:19-20).

Father, we also pray for those who are currently walking in darkness, that they may come to know the light of Your salvation. Soften their hearts, Lord, and open their eyes to see the truth of Your Word. Let them experience the transforming power of Your love and grace, that they may turn from their wicked ways and follow You.

We declare that no weapon formed against us shall prosper, and every tongue that rises against us in judgment, we shall condemn (Isaiah 54:17). We are more than conquerors through Him who loved us (Romans 8:37), and we walk in victory because Jesus has overcome the world (John 16:33).

Thank You, Lord, for hearing our prayer. We trust in You alone, for You are our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble (Psalm 46:1). May Your will be done in our lives, and may we bring glory to Your name in all that we do. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Let us also encourage you to immerse yourself in the Word of God daily, for it is through Scripture that we are equipped for every good work (2 Timothy 3:16-17). Meditate on God’s promises, and let His truth renew your mind (Romans 12:2). Surround yourself with fellow believers who will sharpen you and hold you accountable (Proverbs 27:17). And remember, if you do stumble, the Lord is faithful to forgive and restore you when you confess your sins to Him (1 John 1:9). His mercies are new every morning, and His faithfulness is great (Lamentations 3:22-23). Walk in the light, dear one, and let the peace of God rule in your heart.

We join you in asking for discretion and a steady path today. It is clear you do not want to drift into choices that lead away from God, and that desire itself is a sign His Spirit is at work in you. Wisdom often looks less like having all the answers and more like slowing down enough to let God’s perspective shape the next small choice. When we pause before acting, we give Him room to help us recognize what is true and what only looks good in the moment.

If there is a particular decision on your heart, maybe name it to the Lord before you move forward, and if you can, talk it through with a mature believer you trust. You do not have to walk this path alone. The church is meant to be a place where others help us see clearly when things get confusing.

Father, thank You that You do not leave us to guess our way through the dark. Give our friend a clear mind and a settled heart today. Guard them from deceit and twisted words, and give them the discretion to recognize what leads toward You and what leads away. Keep their steps on Your straight path, and surround them with people who love Your truth. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

Your prayer for wisdom and protection is one that should never be far from the lips of every pilgrim who would walk the straight and righteous path. You ask that discretion protect you in every choice. That is no small request. The way to heaven is no smooth-shaven lawn, no well-rolled gravel path. It is a rough road, uphill and down dale, across rivers and over mountains. The righteous must hold on his way, not by native strength, but by the wisdom that comes from above.

Proverbs says wisdom will save you from the ways of wicked men, from men whose words are perverse. Yet remember the root of that wisdom. The fear of the Lord, that is wisdom, and to depart from evil is understanding. If you would stay on the straight and righteous path, hate evil. Hate it in the world, but hate it first in your own heart. Out of the heart proceed evil thoughts, and evil thoughts have in them the essence of sin as surely as evil acts. A man may pray to be kept from wicked companions, but unless he hates the evil in himself, he will soon find his own feet sliding into darkness.

Therefore keep your own garments unspotted. It is of no use speaking against the sin of others if your own life is not blameless. And when evil meets you, do not overcome evil with evil. That old method increases the evil and does you more inward harm than any wrong you have received. Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good. This is the path of wisdom.

I will join you in that prayer, but I charge you, do not simply ask God to keep you while you walk carelessly. Feed on Christ, the Bread of heaven and the Word of life. He is the Word of God. If His word abides in you, discretion will guard your steps, and the straight path, though narrow and rough, will prove to be the happiest walking in the world. The righteous shall hold on his way, for the righteous Father knows and loves His own, and the end of that way is peace and triumph in Jesus Christ.

Your prayer for wisdom and protection is good and right, and we join our hearts with yours before the Lord.

You have asked according to Proverbs 2:12, that wisdom would save you from the ways of wicked men and from perverse words, and that discretion would guard every choice you make. This is the true wisdom we need, not cleverness of speech or the wisdom of this world which comes to nothing, but the wisdom of God which is hidden and revealed in Christ. The wisdom from without may sound impressive with elegant words and curious arguments, but it cannot save. The wisdom that comes from God teaches us to turn from fornication to chastity, from covetousness to contentment, from carelessness to careful watchfulness, and it enables us to recognize deceit and twisted words when we hear them.

Scripture teaches that evil is not by nature in the soul or the body, for both are the works of God, but evil comes from our own choice when we turn away from Him. The days are not evil in themselves, nor is any person made evil by nature, but the deeds done in them make them so. Therefore you can be rescued, and you can be kept on the straight and righteous path, because God has given us freedom and He gives grace to choose the good. He is able to create anew and to raise up what has fallen, and He will guard the mind that looks to Him.

We pray with you now. Heavenly Father, fill this heart with Your wisdom and let Your understanding guard this mind. Give clear sight to spot lies and deceit, and keep these feet far from those who delight in doing wrong and walking in the dark. Lead on the straight path that You have made through Jesus Christ, Your living Word, the true Bread of Heaven.
