Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join with you in this beautiful desire to seek vision from the Lord rather than simply following your own personal goals, and we thank God for your heart to be led by Him.

We love that you quoted Proverbs 29:18, and we want to share how it reads in its fullness to encourage you, where it says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. Proverbs 29:18. This shows us that godly vision is not just an idea or ambition, but revelation from God that keeps us anchored in His Word and restrained from going our own way. True vision from God will always align with keeping His law and walking in obedience.

We also rejoice that you quoted James 1:17, Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. We praise God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows and that He is faithful to fulfill what He initiates. For we know that God is not a man that He should lie, and what He promises He will bring to pass when we walk in His timing.

We encourage you as you seek visions from God to seek first His written Word above all else, for His Word is a lamp to our feet and a light for our path. Psalm 119:105. In these last days God does still pour out His Spirit and speak to His people, as it is written It will be in the last days, says God, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. Acts 2:17. Yet we are also called to test what we receive, Beloved, don't believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God. 1 John 4:1. Any vision that is truly from God will never contradict Scripture, will exalt Jesus Christ, and will produce peace and holiness, not confusion.

We also hear your heart not to just follow personal goals, and that is wisdom from above. Scripture calls us, Don't be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God. Romans 12:2. And we are reminded, For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. His vision for you is better and higher than any plan you could make for yourself. We encourage you to continue to trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don't lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Proverbs 3:5-6.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning, and that every good and perfect gift comes from Your hand. We thank You for the hunger You have placed in Your child to receive revelation and vision from You. We ask in the mighty name of Jesus Christ that You pour out Your wisdom and reveal Your perfect will clearly. Grant visions and dreams as You desire, and give deep discernment to test all things against Your holy Word. Keep this dear one from chasing personal ambition or empty imaginations, and instead lead into Your good, well-pleasing and perfect will. Renew the mind daily through Scripture, make the path straight, and fulfill every vision You give for Your glory. Teach us to wait upon You, to keep Your law and to walk in obedience, so that we do not cast off restraint but are blessed as we follow You. We ask that You make Your calling and direction unmistakable, and give courage to obey. In Jesus' mighty and powerful name we pray, amen.

We appreciate you sharing this desire with us. Wanting to follow God's leading rather than just your own plans is a good and humble place to be, and we hear how much you want to stay close to Him in that.

God does love to guide His people, and He often does it more steadily than dramatically, through His Word, through quiet prayer, through the counsel of other faithful believers, and through the gentle work of His Spirit over time. A true vision from Him isn't just a big idea or a sudden feeling, it is a settled sense of calling that draws us to follow Him and shapes how we live day by day.

One simple next step that helps many people is to set aside a few unhurried minutes each day to be still before the Lord. You might read a portion of Scripture slowly, pray honestly about the decisions and desires before you, and jot down what you sense He is highlighting, then share those thoughts with a pastor or a mature believer you trust who can help you weigh them.

We are praying with you for clarity and for peace as you wait on Him.

Father, we thank You that You do not change and that You are near to those who seek You. We ask You to give our friend wisdom, a listening heart, and confidence to walk in the way You show him. Lead him step by step and keep him close to You. In Jesus' name, amen.

It is good that your heart desires to be led by the Lord rather than by your own personal goals, for there is a Divine will which governs all things and nothing happens but what He permits or ordains.

You have quoted that where there is no vision the people perish, and you ask for visions from God. Understand that word aright. The vision there spoken of is not a private dream or a personal plan for life, but the prophetic revelation of God, His Word made known to His people. Where that revelation is withheld or despised, the people cast off restraint. Where it is given and obeyed, there is life. What you most need, therefore, is not a new revelation beyond Scripture, but a clearer sight of what God has already revealed and a heart made willing to walk in it.

Scripture teaches us to recognize God in the affairs of the future. They who say we will go and do this or that and will get gain, forgetting the Lord, speak foolishly, for a man cannot both propose and dispose without asking God's consent. Our wisdom is to say, and to feel even when we do not say it, If the Lord wills, we shall do this or that. There is a revealed will which we must not violate, and our best profit will consist in doing God's will. The work of the Spirit, which is the effect of the will of God, is to change the human will and so make men willing in the day of God's power, working in them to will and to do of His good pleasure. Thus the true child of God learns to pray with his Lord, Father, I will, and yet also, not as I will, but as Thou wilt.

May you be kept from following mere personal goals and be taught that Divine art of absolute resignation to the purpose and ordinance of God.

Let us pray for you. Heavenly Father, we thank Thee that Thou art the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness neither shadow of turning, and that every good and perfect gift cometh down from above. We thank Thee that Thou dost fulfil the visions Thou givest. We ask for this soul that Thou wouldst grant not curiosity after signs, but illumination by Thy Spirit to understand Thy Word, to love Thy revealed will, and to walk uprightly therein. Work in this heart to will and to do of Thy good pleasure, and teach it to bow to Thy sovereign sway, saying ever, If the Lord wills. Keep this one from willful blindness to any part of Thy will, and make Thy Word a lamp unto the feet and a light unto the path. Grant grace to seek first Thy kingdom and to find all profit in doing Thy will, through Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose mighty and powerful name we pray, amen.
