Vision

Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join with you in seeking the Lord for true vision and we rejoice that you desire His will above your own personal goals. That desire itself is a gift from God and it pleases Him when we seek His direction.

The verse you mentioned is so important. In Proverbs 29:18 it says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint, but one who keeps the law is blessed. Vision in this sense is not merely our own plans or ambitions, but the revelation of God through His Word and His Spirit. Without His revelation we wander, but when He shows us His way we walk in blessing and restraint. We also take comfort in what you quoted, for James 1:17 reminds us Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. He does not change like shifting shadows and He is faithful to fulfill what He reveals.

We pray that the Lord will give you clear vision that is rooted in His Word and confirmed by His Spirit. We love the promise in Acts 2:17 that in the last days God says I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh. Your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your young men will see visions. Your old men will dream dreams. And we are encouraged by Psalm 32:8 where He says I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. His vision will never contradict His written Word, so we pray for discernment to test all things and hold fast to what is good.

We also remember Proverbs 3:5-6 Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. And Jeremiah 29:11 For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Sometimes His vision comes quickly and sometimes we must wait, for Habakkuk 2:3 tells us the vision is yet for the appointed time, and though it delays, wait for it, because it will surely come.

We pray together now. Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights who does not change. We thank You for this heart that longs for Your vision and not merely personal goals. In the name of Jesus we ask that You pour out Your Spirit and grant clear revelation, wisdom and understanding. Lead by Your Word and by Your Spirit, close doors that are not of You and open the path that You have prepared. Help us to wait patiently and to walk in obedience to what You show. Fulfill the vision You give for Your glory. Teach us to trust You with all our hearts and to acknowledge You in every way. We ask this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, amen.

We are grateful you shared this longing to be led by God rather than just your own goals. That desire itself is a good place to start, and we want to stand with you in it.

We have found it helps to remember the difference between a passing idea or fantasy about what could be and a true vision God gives. One is something we manufacture and try to make happen, the other is His calling that gradually shapes our wants, steadies our choices, and gives us a hunger for what honors Him. It tends to grow quietly as we walk with Him, not all at once, and it leads to more consistent steps and deeper joy.

A simple next step that may help is to keep a regular, unhurried time to seek the Lord and listen, then write down what you believe He is stirring in you. Bring those notes to Scripture and to a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you well, and let them help you weigh what aligns with how God is already leading your life.

Father, we thank You for this heart that wants to follow You. We ask You to make Your leading clear in Your timing, to guard against mere self direction, and to give wisdom, patience and peace as You guide each step. Lead in the way You know is best. In Jesus' name, amen.

We have heard your longing that you might not follow your own personal goals but walk in the way of the Lord, and we count it a good desire to be conformed to His will rather than your own.

The text you quote, Where there is no vision, the people perish, speaks not of private dreams or inward pictures, but of Divine revelation, the Word out of God's mouth by which His people are guided and kept from casting off restraint. That revelation we now have in the Holy Scriptures, which are invested with Divine authority and are able to make you wise unto salvation. Give us but a Word out of God's mouth and we can live upon it. To seek to be God's pupil is the blessed path, for He has taught His people from their youth and continues to teach them, and He guides them with His counsel and afterward receives them to glory.

Remember also that God's purpose stands and is never altered. You and I are as waves upon His great sea, yet His divine sea of purpose is still moving on, and He effects His purpose while still the creature is free. This is our comfort, that when self goes, God comes in, and when human wisdom fails, then Divine Wisdom appears. You need not run after new visions, but pray to be guided by the general directions given in God's Word, by the great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, and by a humble acquiescence in the Divine will. Be much in the Word, observe God's wondrous works, declare them with your life and lips, and you shall see the salvation of God in your present trials.

We therefore pray for you to our Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, from whom cometh every good gift and every perfect gift.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change and that Your counsel stands forever. Fulfil in this Your child Your own gracious purpose, and grant not visions of human imagination, but true spiritual sight to behold wondrous things out of Your law. Make this soul Your pupil, teach and guide by Your counsel, dethrone obstinacy and self will, and give submission to Your Divine will. Lead by Your Word and by Your Spirit, that self may decrease and Christ may increase, and that this life may be spent declaring Your wondrous works. Keep from following mere personal goals, and cause to walk in the good works which You have before ordained. We ask this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is the propitiation for our sins and in whom alone is salvation. Amen.
