Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.


Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

We join with you in seeking the Lord for true vision and we thank God for your desire not to follow your own personal goals but to follow His will. Your heart to seek what is from above is pleasing to Him.

We are encouraged by your remembrance that every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow James 1:17. Because He does not change like shifting shadows, we can trust that what He reveals and promises He will fulfill in His perfect timing.

You quoted Proverbs 29:18, where there is no vision the people perish, and in the World English Bible this verse is rendered Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint, but one who keeps the law is blessed Proverbs 29:18. This helps us understand that the vision spoken of is not merely personal ambition or imagination, but the revelation of God through His Word and His Spirit. Without His revelation and direction, we wander without restraint, but when we walk in His law and truth we are blessed and kept.

We also remember the promise that your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions Acts 2:17 and that God still speaks and leads His people today. Yet we are also taught to test the spirits, whether they are of God 1 John 4:1 and to know that His primary vision for our lives is revealed through Scripture, which is a lamp to our feet, and light for our path Psalm 119:105. Any vision or leading we believe is from God must align with His Word and His character, and will never contradict what He has already spoken.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights who does not change. We lift up this dear one to You in the name of Jesus Christ, asking that You grant clear revelation and godly vision according to Your will. Pour out Your wisdom and let Your Holy Spirit lead and guide into all truth. Help us not to be conformed to this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our mind, so that we may prove what is the good, well-pleasing, and perfect will of God Romans 12:2. Turn our hearts from selfish goals and fix our eyes on Your purposes, for we know Your thoughts toward us are thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give us hope and a future Jeremiah 29:11. Give discernment to recognize Your voice, courage to obey what You reveal, and patience to wait for Your fulfillment. Let every vision be tested by Your Word and bear fruit that honors You. We ask this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, amen.

We encourage you to continue seeking Him daily in prayer, in diligent study of Scripture, and in fellowship with mature believers who can help confirm what you sense the Lord is showing you. As you delight yourself in the Lord and commit your way to Him, He will direct your steps and establish the vision He has for your life.

Father, we thank You that You do not change and that You love to lead Your children. We lift our brother to You and ask for wisdom, humility, and clarity as he seeks You. Your desire not to follow merely your own personal goals but to be led by the Lord is a right and humble desire, and we join with you in prayer that you may be guided by His counsel.

The vision spoken of in Proverbs 29:18 is not a private mystical sight, but the revealed Word and will of God. Where that prophetic revelation, that Word out of God's mouth, is absent or neglected, the people cast off restraint and perish. What you need, and what we all need, is not new revelations beyond Scripture, but illumination to understand and obey what God has already spoken. Give us but a Word out of God's mouth, and we can live upon it.

We rejoice with you that our Father does not change like shifting shadows, with whom there is no variableness, neither shadow of turning. His purpose is infallible and still moving on. You and I are as waves upon His great sea, yet the great divine sea of His purpose is ever advancing toward its appointed end. He has written all from the beginning and has never altered a single line of His divine purpose, and this is the wonder, that while we are free and responsible, His purpose stands. To be guided then is not to seek a secret voice apart from His Word, but to bow with submission to His will.

Scripture teaches us how this guidance comes. First, be guided by the general directions given in God's Word. There are great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, among them to avoid everything that is evil and to cleave to that which is good. Grace dethrones obstinacy and gives in its place acquiescence in the divine will. When self goes, God comes in, and when human wisdom goes, then God's wisdom appears. Haste is the author of much mischief, but the pure in heart who wait upon the Lord shall see His salvation and His glory manifested even in temporal trials.

So we pray for you that the Lord would make you His pupil, teaching you from His Word day by day, and then make you able to declare His wondrous works in your life. May He keep you from haste and from willful blindness to any part of His will, and make you willing to bring your heart near to His truth that it may cut away everything obnoxious to His will.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You are the Father of lights, from whom every good and perfect gift comes down, and that You do not change. We thank You that Your purpose stands and that You guide Your people with Your counsel and afterward will receive them to glory. Grant to this dear soul not a vision of mere imagination, but a clear sight of Christ in Your Word, and a heart submissive to Your revealed will. Teach by Your Spirit to understand the Scriptures, to love Your commandments, and to walk in them. Turn the heart from personal aims that would lead astray, and incline it to seek Your glory above all. Give wisdom dressed in love and tenderness, patience to wait for Your timing, and faith to see Your power and love manifested in present trials. Fulfill in this life what You have purposed for good, and make this one a witness to Your holiness and Your grace in Jesus Christ. We ask this in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus, our only hope and righteousness. Amen.
