VISION

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We rejoice with you in your desire to seek vision from the Lord rather than simply following your own personal goals, and we stand in agreement with you in prayer in Jesus' name.

We love the hunger in your heart for what God wants to reveal. You quoted Proverbs 29:18 which in its fullness says Where there is no revelation, the people cast off restraint; but one who keeps the law is blessed. This reminds us that true vision is not merely a personal ambition or a good idea, but revelation from God that keeps us anchored to His Word and His law. Without His revelation we wander, but with it we walk in blessing and restraint.

We also thank God with you that He does not change like shifting shadows, for as you quoted Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of lights, with whom can be no variation, nor turning shadow. James 1:17. What a comfort that the visions He gives are good and perfect gifts, and the God who gives them is faithful to fulfill what He has spoken.

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace and we thank You for this dear one who longs to see with Your eyes and not their own. We ask that You pour out Your wisdom and revelation upon them. Your Word says But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach; and it will be given to him. James 1:5. So we ask You to grant clear vision that is born of Your Spirit and aligned with Your holy Word. Let any vision they receive be tested by Scripture and bear the fruit of Your peace, for You have said For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says Yahweh, thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future. Jeremiah 29:11. Lead them away from striving after personal goals alone and into the hope and future You have already planned.

We pray that You will teach them to discern Your voice, for You promise I will instruct you and teach you in the way which you shall go. I will counsel you with my eye on you. Psalm 32:8. We ask that You open their eyes to see and their ears to hear what Your Spirit is saying, and we claim Your promise that It will happen afterward, that I will pour out my Spirit on all flesh; and your sons and your daughters will prophesy. Your old men will dream dreams. Your young men will see visions. Joel 2:28. Let any dreams and visions be from You, confirming and never contradicting the truth of Scripture, and give them a community of mature believers to help confirm what You reveal.

We encourage you to continue to seek vision first and foremost in the Word of God, through daily prayer and waiting on the Lord, and through godly counsel. True vision from God will always draw you closer to Christ, produce holiness, and glorify Jesus, and it will always agree with what He has already spoken in Scripture. As you wait, do not despise the quiet work of God in teaching you obedience in small things, for that is often how He prepares us for greater revelation.

We thank You, Father, that You are the One who fulfills the visions You give, and we trust You to lead this dear one step by step into Your perfect will. We pray all these things in the mighty and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our only hope and our only access to the Father, amen.

We appreciate you bringing this desire before the Lord so honestly. Wanting God's vision instead of just chasing your own goals shows a heart that wants to stay close to Him.

We understand that longing for a clear picture from God can feel urgent, especially when you want to be sure you are not just following your own ideas. In our experience, what God calls vision often grows more as a steady sense of His calling and direction for how to live faithfully day by day, rather than a single dramatic moment. It shapes our appetites and choices and keeps us oriented toward Him when other options pull at us.

One simple practice that has helped many is to keep a regular, unhurried time to listen as well as pray, noticing what God seems to be emphasizing through Scripture, through wise counsel, and through open and closed doors, and writing those impressions down to pray over and test with a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you well.

Father, we thank You for this hunger to follow You. We ask You to make Your way clear and to give wisdom, peace and trust as You lead step by step. Draw our friend closer to You and help them walk faithfully with You in the days ahead. In Jesus' name, amen.

There is a gracious desire in your request, that you would not follow your own personal goals but be led by the Lord, and this turning of your face in the right direction is itself a mercy. When you sought your own way you faced your own wisdom, now your face is heavenward in seeking to know the will of God, and that is well.

You quote the proverb, Where there is no vision, the people perish. Understand that this vision is not a nightly dream or a private impression, but the prophetic Word, the revelation of God. Give me but a Word out of God's mouth, and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth apart from Divine inspiration are as unsatisfying food as if men tried to live on stones. That vision we have, full and sufficient, in the Holy Scriptures, which are invested with Divine authority. Where that Word is not proclaimed and obeyed, the people cast off restraint. Where it is loved and kept, there is life and order.

You do well therefore to pray that you may not live by your own designs. Let all your care go in this direction, to serve God, to live for God, to glorify God. Seek you first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you. We must seek His glory heartily and honestly and most obediently. A man cannot say I am seeking God's glory when he knows he is disobeying God's command in what he is doing. Seek God's righteousness, that is, seek a holy character, seek first of all to be right, not to be rich, seek first of all to obey God, not to become the master of others. If you are seeking the Lord in this way, you shall not want any good thing.

Do not be eager after visions and signs as though you cannot get at Christ without them. The seeking sinner is sometimes disobedient in this way, going about here and there seeking, but declining trusting, eagerly looking abroad for that which is at home. Seeking for Jesus is the true seeking. Your peace is near you in the slain Saviour, in His Word and His finished work. Faith seeing God's glory is better than eyes seeing a vision, for believing is seeing. When we trusted Jesus, though we used no forms and ceremonies, we received the salvation of our souls.

And in your praying, remember our Saviour's perfect model in the garden, Nevertheless not as I will, but as Thou wilt. You must still continue to pray, for you do not know what God's will is, but you must pray with resignation. There are some things which we should not ask as though we have a promise about them, or because they would be contrary to God's usual method of procedure. God abides the same forever, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning, and we have three firm grounds of confidence, God's sovereignty, Christ's sacrifice and God's immutability. His sovereignty encloses you and His angels surround you, and faith puts the Divine smelling salts to the fainting heart as soon as the nostrils perceive the sweet perfume of God's faithfulness.

So let us pray together that the Lord will teach you as His pupil, and make you to observe His wondrous works in His Word, that you may declare them with pen and voice.

Heavenly Father, we thank Thee that Thou art the Father of lights, from whom cometh down every good gift and perfect gift, and that Thou changest not. Fulfil Thy purposes in this Thy servant. Give not merely a fleeting impression, but give sight to see Thy glory in the face of Jesus Christ, and understanding to read Thy Word with a believing heart. Teach this soul from youth and still onward, and make Thy Word to be that vision by which restraint is kept and holiness is nourished. Lead away from selfish seeking, and cause this heart to seek first Thy Kingdom and Thy righteousness, to seek Jesus Himself, and to rest upon His atoning sacrifice. Grant resignation to Thy holy will, and faith to believe Thy promise that they who seek the Lord shall not want any good thing. Hide this one in the secret of Thy tabernacle, and let Christ be all. In Jesus' mighty name we ask it, Amen.
