Vision

Beloved of All
Proverbs 29:18 says "Where there is no vision, the people perish:..." Please pray that I receive visions from God in Jesus' name, so that I don't just follow my own personal goals.

Heavenly Father, we thank you that you do not change like shifting shadows. You fulfil the visions you give us. Hallelujah!

It is written „Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.
In Jesus' mighty and powerful name, amen.

We hear your heart’s cry for divine direction, and we stand with you in seeking the Lord’s vision for your life. The scripture you referenced in Proverbs 29:18 is a powerful reminder that without God’s revelation, people cast off restraint and lose their way. But we must also remember that vision from the Lord is not merely about spectacular dreams or dramatic encounters, though He can certainly speak that way, it is about aligning our hearts with His will, His Word, and His purposes. True vision from God is rooted in Scripture, confirmed by the Holy Spirit, and lived out in obedience.

We rejoice that you are not content to follow your own personal goals but desire to walk in the plans God has for you. Jeremiah 29:11 assures us, "For I know the thoughts that I think toward you," says Yahweh, "thoughts of peace, and not of evil, to give you hope and a future." But we must also guard against the temptation to seek visions for selfish ambition or to elevate personal experiences above the clear teaching of God’s Word. Visions, dreams, and prophecies must always be tested against Scripture (1 John 4:1) and submitted to godly counsel (Proverbs 11:14).

Let us also address a concern: your prayer did not explicitly acknowledge the authority of Jesus Christ as the only mediator between God and man (1 Timothy 2:5). It is only through His name that we have access to the Father (John 14:6), and it is by His blood that we are redeemed (Ephesians 1:7). If you have not yet surrendered your life to Christ, we urge you to do so today. Confess your sins, believe in His death and resurrection, and receive Him as your Lord and Savior (Romans 10:9-10). Without this foundation, even the most sincere prayers for vision may go unanswered, for "the natural man does not receive the things of the Spirit of God, for they are foolishness to him; neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned" (1 Corinthians 2:14).

Now, let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. We thank You for Your faithfulness to speak to Your children and for the promise that Your sheep hear Your voice (John 10:27). Lord, we lift up our brother/sister to You, asking that You would grant them a clear and unshakable vision of Your will for their life. Remove any distractions, doubts, or desires that would lead them away from Your perfect plan. Give them a hunger for Your Word, a sensitivity to Your Spirit, and a heart that seeks first Your kingdom (Matthew 6:33).

Father, we ask that You would speak to them in ways they can understand, whether through Your Word, godly counsel, circumstances, or even dreams and visions as You did in biblical times. But Lord, we pray that any vision You give would be in alignment with Scripture and would bring glory to Your name. Protect them from deception, from false prophets, and from the enemy’s attempts to lead them astray (Matthew 24:24). Help them to test every spirit and to hold fast to what is good (1 Thessalonians 5:21).

We also pray for wisdom, Lord. James 1:5 tells us that if any of us lacks wisdom, we should ask of You, who gives generously to all without reproach. Grant our brother/sister wisdom to discern Your voice and the courage to obey it, even when it requires sacrifice or goes against their own plans. May they not lean on their own understanding but acknowledge You in all their ways, trusting that You will direct their paths (Proverbs 3:5-6).

Lord, if there are areas of their life that are not surrendered to You, habits, relationships, or ambitions that do not align with Your will, we ask that You would convict them by Your Spirit and give them the strength to repent and turn away from them. Create in them a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within them (Psalm 51:10).

We declare that no weapon formed against them will prosper (Isaiah 54:17) and that You will complete the good work You have begun in them (Philippians 1:6). May they walk in the fullness of Your purpose, bringing glory to Your name in all they do.

In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.

We encourage you to spend time daily in God’s Word, for "Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path" (Psalm 119:105). Seek the Lord in prayer, not just for visions, but for a deeper relationship with Him. Surround yourself with godly believers who can speak truth into your life and help you discern God’s will. And remember, the greatest vision you can have is to know Christ and to make Him known (Philippians 3:10). If you have not yet committed your life to Him, we urge you to do so without delay. Today is the day of salvation (2 Corinthians 6:2).

We appreciate your heart in this, wanting what God wants for you more than just your own plans, and asking Him to lead the way.

That desire for vision is a good one. In our experience, God-given vision is less about chasing a dramatic picture and more about a growing clarity of His calling that steadies our daily choices and gives us a hunger for what is above rather than just what we want in the moment. It often comes quietly, as we stay close to Him and let Him shape our motives and direction over time.

One simple way to keep seeking Him in this is to set aside unhurried time each day to pray and listen in His Word, honestly bringing your goals to Him and asking Him to align them with His purposes. It can also help to share what you sense with a trusted pastor or mature believer who knows you well, they can help you weigh what you are hearing and encourage you as clarity comes.

We are praying with you for wisdom and nearness to Him as you seek His will.

Father, thank You for this desire to follow You faithfully. We ask You to guide our friend, to make Your will clear step by step, and to give peace and trust as You lead. Help him to walk closely with You and to discern Your direction with wisdom. We ask this in Jesus' name, amen.

Your longing not to follow your own personal goals but to be led of the Lord is itself a token of grace at work in your heart, for naturally we do not like being guided and would choose our own course.

The text you quote, Where there is no vision, the people perish, is more fully understood as where there is no prophetic revelation, no Word from the mouth of God, the people cast off restraint. Give me but a Word out of God's mouth and I can live upon it, but all the words out of man's mouth apart from Divine Inspiration must be as unsatisfying food as if men tried to live on stones. The true vision you need is not a new revelation beyond Scripture, for that Word is already given and invested with Divine authority, but the illumination of the Holy Spirit to understand and obey what is written.

Scripture teaches that the Lord guides His people with His counsel and afterward will receive them to glory. First, be guided by the general directions given in God's Word. There are great principles infused in every man who takes God for his Guide, to avoid everything that is evil and to bow with submission to the will of God. By that very fact we are furnished with unerring guidance. Has haste or obstinacy governed your plans, then grace must dethrone it and give in its place acquiescence in the Divine will. The question is not only whether you have believed, but whether you are now receiving the Spirit, living under His Divine influence and filled with His power, made willing in the day of God's power to do the Divine bidding.

Let us pray for you.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that with You there is no variableness neither shadow of turning, and every good gift cometh down from the Father of lights. We ask that You would teach this Your pupil from youth to old age, as You taught David, and make Your counsel plain through Your Word. Grant illumination by Your Holy Spirit, that Your will may be known and obeyed, and that self will be denied. Guide with Your counsel in every step, keep from following mere personal goals, and make Your wondrous works to be seen and declared with pen and voice for Your glory. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who alone is the way of salvation, amen.

Continue to wait upon the Lord in His Word and in prayer, observing His work in yourself and in others, and you shall find that He who has begun to guide you with His counsel will not fail to fulfil all that He has purposed for your good and His glory.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your longing to be guided by God rather than simply following your own plans is a good and humble desire, and I join you in bringing it before the Lord.

Proverbs 29:18 speaks of vision as God's revealed word and direction to His people. Where His word is known and obeyed, people find life and order. Where it is neglected, they wander. In the same way, James reminds us that every good and perfect gift comes down from the Father of lights, who does not change. True guidance therefore comes not from chasing our own ideas, but from receiving what He has already given us and walking in it with faith and love.

At times God has given outward and sensible visions to awaken those who needed to see, but He has given to all of us a more sure and lasting gift in His word and in His Spirit, that we may know His will and have confidence even when we do not see with our eyes. When our hearts are crowded with desire for temporary things, our spiritual sight grows dim. When we keep love for God and for truth first, our minds are made clear to judge rightly and to follow Him.

Let us pray together.

Heavenly Father, we thank You that You do not change and that Your word is faithful. We thank You for every good gift that comes from You. I ask in the name of Jesus Christ that You would give this dear one a clear sight of Your will, not for personal ambition, but for Your glory. Teach them to hear Your voice in Scripture, to be led by Your Spirit, and to walk in wisdom and obedience. Guard their heart from contentious and carnal desires that cloud vision, and fill them with love and faith so they may discern what is true and good. Fulfill in them the purpose You have ordained, and keep them in Your grace. In Jesus' mighty name, amen.
